Location! Location! Location! We are tucked between the Dordogne River and steep, dramatic stone cliffs, in the village of La Roque Gageac it is the picturesque location for this completely renovated, 3000-square-foot, stone house. Dating from the Middle Ages, the Dordogne Village House is reportedly the oldest in the village. There are ancient stone steps gently ascending the hill, leading directly to the house. It offers an excellent opportunity to savor the natural beauty of this distinct area of France, as well as a truly authentic medieval village. This idyllic setting is convenient with wonderful restaurants, casual dining, and wine cellar just steps from the house.

On the mid-level of this three-story house, one enters through a rustic wooden door set into the thick, ochre-colored stonewalls onto a private courtyard. This leads to the entrance of the the home through your completely remodeled kitchen with massive stone fireplace ('cantou') that now houses a wood stove, a long dining table, a new cooking range, and refrigerator. The large kitchen is completely equipped for convenient meal preparation. We can also arrange for a chef, a highlight for many guests.

Also on this floor, is a separate toilet room with sink.

The attractive lounge has oak beams and the original large traditional fireplace (in addition there is electric heating for winter use). The lounge is spacious with comfortable seating for gathering and sharing the days events. There are double French doors leading out to the ivy-covered, river view terrace.

Also for your comfort, there is a convenient WIFI connection, a Bose Ipod port, radio, TV, DVD player with Movie library and free international calls.

A staircase leads to the top floor where there is a master bedroom with a King-size bed. A second bedroom next door has two twin beds (these can be made up as a king). Both bedrooms share a newly remodeled bathroom with a very large shower, vanity and toilet.

Below the main floor, on the lowest level, there is a double-size bedroom and spacious bathroom with tub, shower, toilet, and sink. The second bedroom on this floor has twin beds(can be made up as a king) and a sitting area.

This convenient floor plan allows for families or friends traveling together to enjoy the large open main floor for meals, conversation, and relaxing. Yet have complete privacy with the main floor separating their sleeping quarters. For more pictures and information be sure to click the link below...

About Kitty and Dave

We fell in love with this magical village over 18 years ago and after many return trips decided we wanted to become part of this wonderful community . Our vacation home is so comfortable, most guests tell us that it feels like home the minute you walk in the door. It is our goal to help you make your stay the best it can be. We are happy to help with travel plans along the way.

Why Kitty and Dave chose Perigord Noir

Le Bourg has history but it also has a charm that is hard to describe. High ceilings, spacious rooms, enormous fire places, great views. These all were part in helping us choose this wonderful home.

What makes this house unique

Views, Location, and the best neighbors any one could ask for. Giving discounts to our guests and treating them as though they live there year round. WE could not have asked for anything better than this.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great 4 weeks in France. Le Bourg is just beautiful. You've done an outstanding job decorating it. The sheets, pillows/chenille and furniture were all top of the line-sorry we could only use one bedroom. What a great place for a big group or number of couples.

Pierre and Sarah were great and we bought quite a bit of wine and other local goodies from them.

The weather was warm when we first arrived and then cooled a bit. Also loved the free telephone.

We went to a number of gardens as Diane is a member of the La Jolla Village Club and really enjoyed that. The market at St. Cyprien was one of the best of our trips. Went to a number of castles and chateaus plus great wine tasting and food as usual. Thanks again for sharing Le Bourg. It is truly a very special place. Hope to do it again another trip. Wonderful week at Le Bourg

  • 5 of 5

Our family, my husband and, our daughter and her husband, and our 2 granddaughters, loved everything about the house and the area. We visited the castles, the caves, the markets, took a canoe down the river and best of all, swam in the river at the end of each day's outing. With temperatures in the 30s themail swimming was a big Bonus!

The house accommodated our 2 age groups perfectly, we each had our own bedroom space, but had plenty of room to cook and eat together.

Having Dimitri cooked for us one night was such a treat.

I will certainly recommend the house to our friends...and the lovely little village, so close to all the activities.

Thank you ,Kitty, for all your helpful Hints! We would love to come back for another holiday.Jennifer

Gorgeous, Comfortable Vacation Rental in Stunning Location

  • 5 of 5

I spent a fabulous week here with my three young children while my husband worked in Lyon. The home was perfectly outfitted for a comfortable family stay, and had plenty of room to accommodate grandparents or a second family (next time!). My girls and I enjoyed a week of nature, culture, history, and adventure in the Dordogne area, and I had no trouble getting around and enjoying the area even as a solo parent. In 2.5 years of living and traveling in Europe as an expat family, Le Bourg and La Roque-Gageac top my list as a favorite family destination.

Beautifully restored and comfortable home in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully restored home situated above the Dordogne River with great views of the river and valley. One feels as if you have entered another world. This home is lovely, yet very comfortable. The owners have taken great care to ensure you want for nothing. Our vacation here in April left us wanting to come back. There is much to see and do in this gorgeous valley.

South of France Heaven

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place to stay while exploring the southwest of France. The house was beautifully appointed with great amenities and plenty of space for our party of 7 people. The house is well equipped and beautifully appointed. It has all the charm of a bygone era with all the modern touches.

La Roque is a picture perfect town and the shops and restaurants provided everything we needed. Helene, on the next level up from the house supplied us with wine and gourmet treats and Chef Dimitri came and prepared 2 exceptional meals for us. We had a wonderful time exploring castles, caves, spent a day in Bordeaux and drove through the gorgeous country visiting towns and villages. I can't wait for my next visit!

Awesome old house in picturesque village

  • 5 of 5

Le Bourg was the perfect base for our family get-together, with three generations travelling from Australia, UK, Canada and USA to be there. Everyone agreed that we had chosen a great location; the house exceeded our expectations and we could not have wanted more. It is a beautiful retreat, homely, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surroundings, and a well equipped kitchen and modern bathrooms. Quality linen on the comfy beds. Reliable wi-fi.

Chef Dimitri made us a superb meal, and Helene at Lou Castelou close by was very helpful recommending wines.

The house is situated right in the village close to shops, restaurants, the river and canoes, and walking tracks. An enclosed entry courtyard and vine-covered terrace provide pleasant outdoor space. The house is on 3 levels with two flights of narrow winding stairs to the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms - no problem for our team (from 2 to 70 years!) but could be a challenge for less able individuals.

There are lots of interesting historical sights and towns within easy driving distance, and activities for all ages.

We spent a delightful and memorable 3 weeks and the owner was very helpful providing information and suggestions during our holiday planning and preparation.

Birthday celebration

  • 4 of 5

My best friend and myself rented this lovely, rustic French country home for two weeks to celebrate our 70th and 75th birthdays with our adult children and their spouses. Le Bourg, the village and surrounding area could not have been more spectacular. Relaxing in front of the fireplace or sharing wine and great family stories on the wonderful terrace, it doesn't get much better than that. There's a view from every window that most of the time takes your breath away. Much to do and we did most of it. Riverboat tour, hiking, canoeing and exploring many historical castles. House equipped with anything one would need. Getting the chef is a must. The best meal we had in France. Inn keeper, Anne was a delight. The best way to experience and enjoy the French country side. We will be back.

Car: necessary

La Roque-Gageac is deservedly designated one of “les Plus Beax Village de France”. In medieval times, it was an important fortified village and later saw the addition of renaissance manors, including the Manoir de Tarde. It has retained its authentic character over the centuries, featuring attractive narrow stone streets and interesting homes, churches and public buildings.

There is a weekly market, fabulous restaurants, a pizzeria and a bakery/pastry shop. For recreation enjoy river beaches and canoes for rent. Completely sheltered by the cliffs, there is an area where the semi-tropical plant life survives year-round. A walking path that runs behind the buildings at the foot of the cliff provides great views. There are also pre-historic Troglodyte dwellings above.

Within 15 min: The wonderful perserved towns of Beynac, Domme and Sarlat.
