Apartment of 60 square meters, perfectly equiped for a family of 4 persons, large living room and a kitchen. Borgovagando is located on the 2nd floor of an historical building of the 14th century. The apartment has a nice terrace and several windows from which you can see the typical gardens and courts of the house as well as the other historical buildings of the neighborhood. The district is one of the oldest areas of Ferrara, his name “borgovado” litterally means 'village of the ford' and dates back to the Middle Ages when the Po river ran through the city.
The house is situated on the edge of the restricted traffic area and can be easily reached in 5min by bus (1&9) from the train station or also by car and has parking facilities. Borgovagando is a perfect starting point for wandering in the medieval center of the city, to visit the Renaissance historical districits of Ferrara – an UNESCO 'World Heritage City'- and then go walking on the beatiful walls that sourround the city center. It is in fact just 100 meters away from Palazzo Schifanoia, 200 meters from the Archaeological Museum Nat. of Spina, from Casa Romei, the walls Este and the Jewish Ghetto. The Estense Castle, the Cathedral, the Municipal Theatre (500 meters) are also easibly recheable by walk in 10 min passing through the historical shopping roads Via Mazzini, Viale Giovecca e via Terranuova . A little bit further, you will find Palazzo dei Diamanti, the Museum of Judaism&Holocaust as well as Ariostea Square, all of them are easily accessible by walk or bicycle.
The city has also a strategical position to easily reach Venice, Padua&Florence by train as well the rest of the region Emilia-Romagna's main turistic localities such as Bologna (25 min by train), Ravenna (1h by train) with its Byzantine mosaics, the Adriatic Seaside&beaches as well as the natural “Po River Delta” Parc.
My wife and I stayed in Borgovagando for a week in February. It’s a terrific apartment: clean, comfortable, quiet and well-equipped (washing machine & WiFi!). It’s on the top floor under the rafters of an old palazzo. There is a terrazzino looking out over the interior courtyard – too cold for us to use but I can imagine it being a great amenity when the weather is better. We loved the location amid the narrow winding streets of the medieval section of Ferrara. This is a great walking (and bicycling) city, and the apartment is close to the historic center. Hosts Marisa and Carlotta were gracious and helpful. Ferrara is well worth a week’s visit. We spent most of our time exploring the city itself but also day-tripped to Padova and Ravenna. Rail connections are good along the line from Bologna to Venice. The station is a 25-30 minute walk from the apartment. A taxi from the station costs about 10 euros. This was a fabulous vacation for us, and we can’t recommend Borgovagando and Ferrara highly enough.
Borgovagando was an absolutely amazing place to stay. Apartment was beautiful, spacious, very comfortable and with great amenities. All immaculately clean and with very nice home from home touches. The kitchen was very well equipped, as we enjoy cooking when in Italy, everything was there to make it a very enjoyable experience. The bikes were a huge bonus, covered most of Ferrara,up to Po Delta and cycling to the station to get trains to other places. Location is excellent, close to centre and with a pasta shop nearby!
Marisa and Carlotta were very friendly, pick up & drop off, information on restaurants, cycling routes etc and of course the lovely cakes, bread, fruit and wine on arrival, just lovely caring people. Ferrara is a fascinating place to visit, first introduction to it was reading Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant a couple of years ago then read Giorgio Bassani before visit. This apartment and Ferrara definitely worth visiting.
A very good place to base yourself for Ferrara and surrounding area. The apartment is clean, has good airconditioning (important in August) and is supplied with everything you might need. A basket of fruit, bread and fruit juice, jams, olive oil, coffee, water and
wine, pasta were awaiting us on arrival. The kitchen was very well equipped. Bed very comfortable, good shower, little terrace. Quiet. Everything from washing liquid to refills for insect repellant sis supplied. Free bikes for use in and around town (Ferrara really is a cycling city!). Buying the Ferrara card exempts you from tourist tax and means you can see about 10 museums etc for 9 euro's in all. Owner Marisa and her son were very friendly and did not even complain when one of the bikes got stolen on our penultimate evening out. All in all, one of the friendliest places we've ever rented!
Marisa and Tullio along with their children Carlotta and Tomasso were gracious and incredibly helpful. The only issue we encountered was difficulty parking our car for the last two nights of our stay. They maneuvered their own cars to create parking for us thereby eliminating any concerns. We could not thank them enough.
The apartment is immaculate, quiet and offers every amenity. The town is picturesque and is in close proximity to Bologna, Venice, Parma, Ravanna, etc. The train station is a very short bus ride from the apartment, or a nice, leisurely walk. Take Carlotta's restaurant suggestions and advice.
We would most definitely stay there again.
Over the years our visits to Italy have moved from hotels to B&B and for the last few years to apartments and this is the best apartment we've ever found - bar none.
It is very well situated in a very old and lovely building, close to a supermercato, to a friendly locals' bar on the corner, to bus routes and is only a short walk through this terrific medieval town to the centre. It is really spacious with a proper separate kitchen, large living room, bedroom, shower room, separate storage area and a super little roof terrace. It also has wi fi TV etc.
Our hosts live in the same building and could not have been more welcoming or friendly. Marisa picked us up from the station and was at great pains to ensure that we knew everything we ought to and had everything we wanted for a great holiday. She also left for us a delicious selection of local specialities for a late lunch on arrival. Her daughter Carlotta is an ace with restaurant recommendations, you may rely on her choices completely.
We had a super week in Ferrara. There is a surprising amount to do but best of all is simply enjoying wandering around there streets of the old town, free of tourist groups then finding and enjoying the restaurants recommended by our host. From Ferrara it is easy to get the train to Ravenna with its wonderful mosaics and to Bologna in one direction and Padova with its Giotto frescoes in the other.
We certainly intend to return both to Ferrara and to Borgovagando, so please don't book all the space!
We really enjoyed our stay in the appartment and like to recommend it. The location is in the city, so one could reach everything by foot or bike. The appartment is equiped really with everything, espacially the kitchen has everything needed for real cooking.
