Vacation in a brand new cedar shake home fully renovated, just a stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Draped by age-old live oaks, this beautifully crafted 2,600 square foot vaulted ceiling house offers two master bedrooms with king beds on the lower floor. Above, there is a queen bedroom and bunk room with four twins, which share a Jack and Jill bathroom. All bedrooms have flat screen televisions. The beautifully appointed bedrooms are accompanied by a great room with a fireplace, flatscreen television. large dining bar, kitchen with Bosch dual-fuel range, double door refrigerator with ample freezer drawer, and a fully equipped gourmet kitchen. On the Albermarle Sound side of the great room is a comfy living room with a flatscreen television and on the ocean side is a bright reading room set apart by solid fir pocket doors for quietude or an afternoon nap. The house has WiFi and toll-free long distance telephones in case cell service is low.
Our neighborhood, Sanderling, features a new pool on the Soundside along with tennis courts and a boat ramp. The Sanderling Inn, across the street, has an outside bar, nightly fire pit with local musicians, and two of the area's finest dining establishments...the Life Saving Station and Kimball' Kitchen. A terrific spa is also available.
Nature is one of the many highlights of the Outer Banks. Most any night there are deer, fox, and bunnies roaming the neighborhood. During the day, dolphins feed on the shoals and entertain beach goers...no binoculars needed. A 400-year-old herd of Spanish mustangs roams the dunes about ten miles north of our home. Several companies offer excursions to see the herd or you can take your own four-wheel-drive vehicle onto the beach to try to find the ponies on your own.
Local seafood is abundant. For cooking at home there is no better place to purchase fish than Carawan's on the 158 Bypass. This longtime purveyor features locally caught tuna, snapper, grouper, Mahi Mahi, shrimp, blue crabs, mussels and much more. Go to Maine if you want lobster.
For dining out, there are many choices. The Paper Canoe is walking distance and showcases the spectacular sunsets over the Albemarle Sound. In the town of Duck, there are Red Sky, Roadside Grill, Cravings, and Blue Point restaurants. For casual meals in Duck, the Duck Deli is your best bet. A short drive south to the beach road there is the Rundown Cafe. Anything but rundown, this gem features creative fare including Mahi Mahi burritos. Another southwestern flavored restaurant is the Bad Bean on the 158 Bypass. The smoked beef brisket tacos and burritos are scrumptious.
History lovers get ready for some treats. A short drive south of our house is the site of the Wright Brother's inaugural flight. The museum and outdoor attractions there are a National Park. Further south in Manteo is Fort Raleigh. This is where Sir Walter Raleigh founded the Lost Colony. The gardens and fort are definitely worth a stroll and the outdoor drama depicting the colony's settlement and mysterious demise is terrific for all ages.
Lighthouse fans will find four exceptional examples on the Outer Banks. The closest to Sanderling is the Currituck Light, which is about eight miles north of Duck Forever. This is a beautifully maintained light that can be climbed to reveal spectacular views. Also within a day trip adventure are Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras, and Ocracoke Island Lighthouses. The first two are open for climbing.
Water sports are very popular in the Outer Banks. Just across the main road there is a local company that will set you up with jet skis, parasailing, kayaks, paddle boards, and the like. Or bring your own kite board for fast runs on the Atlantic.
Golf courses abound in our area. We most highly recommend Nags Head Links, which is about a 30-minute drive south. Leave your driver in the bag. This is a tight course that runs along the sound. If you miss the fairways, you'll likely be using a different ball for your next shot.
Shore, pier or deep sea fishing are very popular in the area. There are multiple companies that will set you up, but our favorite is Bob's Bait and Tackle in the center of Duck.
So whether it's peace and quiet you seek on a private beach, a family-friendly neighborhood without traffic, or some of the nation's most popular historic sites, Duck Forever is the best value and newest property in the neighborhood. We are already booking for 2017.

Excellent property in an excellent locale
This is a very comfortable, clean, spacious and well-appointed home in a lovely neighborhood with fabulous trees. It is only a short walk to the beach. The owners are very responsive and helpful. Our 8-person family group, including children, very much enjoyed our stay at Duck For Ever.
Thank you for your kind words! Jane and I rent homes when we travel, our rentals are best when the homes are equipped and clean! We strive to achieve the same standard for our home.
It always amazes me how many guests fall in love with the trees of Sanderling as we have! Potential guests have a hard time picturing the trees with their canopy so close to the ocean. A good part of OBX was like this, Sanderling developers used Nantauket concepts and saved the trees instead of clear cutting, in turn they also protect us during storms!
Best neighborhood in OBX
Love , love this house! It has everything and SO CLEAN! The owner was very kind and helpful. Unfortunately We didn’t have WiFi because it was off season but luckily for us the Duck Coffee shop was open with free WiFi so my husband could work.
Definitely recommend this house & its one of the best we’ve stay in. We will be coming back. Thanks!!!!!!
I rent homes too when traveling and nothing is worse than entering a dirty empty house. Thank you for noticing, I will let the cleaning staff know they were appreciated.
As you know my main concern when you requested Christmas week with short notice was if the home was set up for guests because it just had its end of season cleaning. I forgot about the cable service kicking into off season mode. It seems every other year what is offered in off season changes, this year it included no internet instead of slower internet, sorry for the inconvenience!
I will be in contact to make good on this inconvenience and am glad to hear you enjoyed the neighborhood and home.
FALL into Duck
Just returned from a brief (3 night) but spectacular stay at this beautiful, perfectly situated, well appointed Beach home. We couldn't decide if we were in a serene mountain setting or an oceanside resort community. This home has it all! There were only 4 of us, but this home was perfectly laid out for a large family gathering. We spent our mornings with coffee on the awesome wrap porch, our afternoons on the beach, and our evenings dining out at one of the many excellent restaurants suggested by the Autlers in their package of information, well thought out and delivered in advance of our vacation. Their wealth of information gave us an opportunity to plan our days and evenings prior to arrival. This was one of our most pleasant vacations and experiences...ever. Thank you!!
No, Thank you! The trees that surround our house gives great shade from a hot day, more import they protect the home from the storms too!
When Jane laid out the renovation her plan was to supply seperation yet enjoy the beauty of Sanderling.
Glad our recommendations helps our guests enjoy their visit to OBX!
Beautiful and Inviting Home on the Outer Banks
This home is even better than described and seen in the photos. When we walked into the living/kitchen area, we were delighted by the large open and inviting feel. This is a great home for a large family with many areas to gather and relax. The surrounding area is beautiful with just a very short walk to the ocean and beach. Our family had a great time, and the house was perfect for us. The incredible kitchen, convenience of a laundry room, and excellent condition and design of the home gave us a place to stay where were were relaxed and comfortable. Our purpose for being in Duck was for a wedding at the Sanderling Resort, which was very conveniently just a short distance away. Some of our family stayed on the resort property and remarked at how much nicer this home was than what they had there. The owners were friendly, available, and responded quickly to all questions and requests - going out of their way to make our stay just perfect! This is an incredible place!
Thank you for all the kind words, considering the Sanderling INN is a five star B&B/resort destination, I consider the comparison to it as the ultimate compliment. In the fall we have a lot of wedding parties staying at the house and are told the cost of staying at Duck Fore Ever verse the INN for any group is concededly far better value. We even have received photos of the wedding party staying at the INN using our porch and taking advantage of the canopy on the street for wedding photos!!
I have to get the inside house photos done again, everyone keeps saying they don't do the home justice!
Henry & Jane
Our stay at Duck Fore Ever was absolutely perfect! The house was in immaculate condition and most definitely the nicest rental property I have stayed in. The set up is also truely perfect for larger groups and entertaining. The layout of the kitchen and living room is what I imagined my dream home to look like. I can picture myself in a house like this all year round. We did not want to leave and cannot wait to stay here again. I keep telling all my friends back home about the house! If you are thinking of renting Duck Fore Ever, there is nothing to think about as nothing compares. Thank you Henry for making our stay memorable and making sure we had everything we needed!
Thank you for all the kind words and also Glad the home was more than you expected, especially since you had a wedding to attend at the Sanderling!
You hit on the main reason why I stop using management companies and start using Home Away/ VRBO, "Immaculate". It did not matter which management company I used the home was never clean enough, the cleaning staff takes pride in the home and are paid based on performance.
The house was layout to accommodate multiple families and give private time to guests that seek it.
As for making the stay memorable, my pleasure!!
Perfect beach vacation
We stay at this house every July for an annual family reunion and it never disappoints us. If you're looking for a place to rent at Sandeling, you can't go wrong with this one. Everything is as described and pictured on the listing, so I won't repeat all of the basics except to say that, if anything, this house is even better than it appears from the photos and descriptions. It has everything you could possibly need or expect. The kitchen comes complete with every gadget and appliance imaginable, and even has sharp knives, which most rental houses lack. There are basic herbs and spices, canola and olive oil, cooking spray,, etc. on hand for guests to use so you don't have to start from scratch at the grocery store. There are also cleaning supplies and paper products there for your use: dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, paper towels, napkins, etc. Beach equipment that you can use includes beach chairs and a surf board. The furniture is very comfortable, especially the beds, which have lovely, soft, high thread count sheets on them. Probably the best thing about this house is the owner. As stated, we have rented from him for many years, and he is always super responsive. He is friendly, helpful, informative, and concerned about his guests' welfare. Really, I can't say enough good things about this lovely house and how easy the owner is to work with.
