This is an another important year for Highbrook House as of December 15th 2012, we completed our kitchen renovation. Last year we added new stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. As part of our kitchen upgrade there are new cabinets, lighting, pantry and Granite Counter tops. Be one of the first to stay with us this year and enjoy a beautiful new kitchen.
If you have never been to Bar Harbor before and even if you have, I am sure you would want to be in a great location. Highbrook has it all!! Do you want to go into the village? No problem, you can walk because it's a short stroll of 10 to 15 minutes - OR - you can stand at the end of my driveway and the Island Explorer will pick you up - OR - you can drive. But don't get too comfortable because it's only 30 seconds away.
I am sure one of the reasons you want to visit is because of Acadia National Park. Can't get much better because the very popular Cadillac Mountain, Duck Brook and Eagle Lake entrances are right around the corner. About 10 seconds away. Even though you are very close to all of the key locations, Highbrook rests on almost an acre of land and is very peaceful and serene.
After a great day in the park, relax and enjoy a barbecue on the back deck or sip a lemonade on the patio. No one will see you. It's a great area for children because it's a residential area with only the locals using Highbrook road.
For your dining and entertaining all dishes, flatware, glasses, bowls, platters, pots and pans, cooking utensils, linens, towels are provided for your convenience. The house has everything you will need to cook up a storm.
Need to check e-mail from the office? Highbrook has WIFI for your laptop.

The second floor features 3 additional bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. The back bedroom is expansive a comfortable with 5 windows, 2 sitting areas and a pull out sofa bed. A very comfortable and bright, cheery room.

If your like me you hate talking about yourself. Do I talk about my profession? Bar harbor? Sports? Well I guess I should stick to the topic of why I am here. I've discovered that I enjoy vacation rentals and Bar Harbor. In my career I am in health care (yes the dreaded words today) and this other side of my life becoming involved in this industry is so different than my current profession but I enjoy talking to everyone who calls or e-mails me. Most of all I enjoy talking to you about Bar Harbor. I have hiked every trail, biked every road and enjoyed the area in spring, summer, fall and even winter. The beauty of the area never ceases to amaze me which is why I keep coming back.
Barbara purchased this house in 1998
I love Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It's a special place where the park meets the ocean and the scenary is spectacular. I came to this area 25 years ago for vacation and decided that I wanted to retire here and enjoy the present and the future. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to do just that. Everytime I come up here I come back a new person. But it gets harder and harder to leave. Someday my ship will come in and I will be here forever.
My first rental in Bar Harbor was at a house just around the corner from where Highbrook is located. When the house went up for sale I tried to buy it because I loved the location. Lucky for me that I was able to purchase Highbrook. The house is in a perfect location because I can walk into town, take the Island Explorer from my driveway, I'm around the corner from Eagle Lake, Cadillac Mountain and the Duck Brook entrances to the park, but yet I'm resting on almost an acre of land. I also wanted a house that had everything in it... my home away from home. Houses that I used to rent didn't have microwaves or even can openers... sometimes it's the little things that make one comfortable. That was a promise when I bought my house that it would have everything a family needs to enjoy their stay...... and the tradition continues today.

We had a fantastic time and this place is on the bus route 1 mile from town. Roomy driveway with carport, nice kitchen. The downstairs bedroom and bath were perfect for my Aunt and Uncle, while we were upstairs with the kids. Owner was fantastic--very friendly, answered all questions and provided any requested information. I would love to come back here when the boys are a bit older.
The house is in a great location, out of the way and quiet, but still close to all the Bar Harbor has to offer. Plenty of room for our large family on our visit to the area to attend our daughter's college graduation. We especially enjoyed the spacious deck and grills during out stay.
Great location, access to all the major attractions. Lovely, clean home, lot's of yard space and represented accurately in photos. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms plus plenty of linens, cozy living room, a lot of room for large dinner etc. There were 10 of us, all slept comfortably but please note that you must walk through a bunk bedroom to access the large bedroom. We had to change our sleeping arrangements to accommodate but it all worked out. The master bedroom and bathroom on the first floor was perfect for one of our couples who has difficulty with stairs. Had a great time!
We had a great time-it was sunny and pleasant the whole week. There were 8 of us, including our 3 adult children and their significant others. The house was lovely, just like the photos and very clean. The kitchen was quite nice and easy to use. The circulator bus into Bar Harbor stops across from the house and runs every 30 mins (every 15 afte 3 pm), but we also walked into town. Note that you must walk through the bunkbed room from the large bedroom into the hallway. But we expected this and it wasn't an issue. It was one of the best vacations we've ever had and made even better by staying at Highbrook.
My family which included my sisters family included 4 adults and 4 children. We stayed at the house the first week of July. We used to be regular visitors until about 5/6 years ago when we felt the home needed a little upgrading.. What a surprise this year and it's a completely different home.. We are so impressed we even told our realtor about all of the changes. What a great home to stay at from a comfort level, it has all of the amentities you could possibly need, the best location you could ever hope for and our family had a great time.. We packed in alot of memories on this trip! The home has terrific access to all of the key areas and you get there so quickly... We didn't realize that the bus passes right by the house and we were able to get on without even leaving the house. The yard area now is much more expansive and our kids had a great time playing in the yard when we were not at the park. No fear about running into the street as it's a very residential neighborhood.. We cooked up a storm, ate alot and enjoyed the house, the family and the park. We are already talking about our return here next year. Highly recommend to anyone coming up to Bar harbor for their vacation.
The house was located close to shops and restaurants. Sleeping arrangements were good with one master on 1st floor with bath and the rest on the 2nd floor. Kitchen was narrow and did not lend itself to preparing large family meals with more than 2 people in the kitchen. The dishes and cookware were minimal. Numerous skillets but not enough pots and pans and only one had a lid. Dishes needed to be replaced but glassware was fine. We were three family groups with 2 teenagers and 2 young children which entailed lots of laundry and that was a problem. Washer was in the kitchen but you had to lug wet laundry through the narrow kitchen to room off back porch where the dryer was located. Although 1st floor master was convenient, the rest of the 1st floor did not lend itself to older adults or younger children. There were no less than a dozen throw rugs over the wood laminate floor and they presented a serious slip and fall hazard. The other big hazard was the raised brick platform for the stove/fireplace. It protruded way too far into the living and dining room areas and every one of us tripped over it more that once. Finally set our purses on the corner as a heads up warning when walking around it. All in all it was a good fit but with a little attention by management, it could be really great.
Weather was great so we enjoyed backyard but could have been better with a patio table on the deck instead of just chairs. There was a old picnic table out in yard but it was well worn. Kids enjoyed back yard as we saw fox and deer while there.
Acadia National Park is literally around the corner with entrances to Cadillac mountain, Duck Brook and Eagle Lake and the carriage roads.
