Overview

About the property

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Wiley’s Place is a jewel of a mountain cabin located within minutes of the crown jewel of the Appalachian Trail: Max Patch Mountain in Pisgah National Forest. If you're looking to get off the beaten path and experience the serene beauty of a remote mountain vacation this four-bedroom, 1.5-bath vacation home on the Tennessee-North Carolina state line is for you.

Wiley's Place is situated at an elevation of more than 4,100 feet just northeast of Great Smoky Mountains National Park where the summers are cool, the winters are snowy, and the evening sky is filled with stars unobstructed by city lights. The VRBO travelers map ALMOST shows the correct location, but the cabin is actually about a mile north. We're working with google maps to get the map corrected, but it's a slow process. Please bear with us! In the meantime, you can email us (the owners) for a google map showing the correct location!

Remote but comfortable, this nearly new cottage features huge picture windows, a 450 square-foot deck, a 300 square-foot covered porch, a five-seat hot tub, and all the amenities, including high-speed WiFi internet, satellite TV, DVD player, washer and dryer, and linens. With convenient access to the Appalachian Trail and close to Max Patch Mountain, guests enjoy an endless variety of Smoky Mountain vistas, hiking, fishing, rafting and plenty of other outdoor activities.

The quaint towns of Waynesville, NC with it's artsy downtown and Maggie Valley, NC with lots of fun for the whole family are both about an hour away. And Asheville, NC and the fabulous Biltmore House are just a little further, about a 1.25 hours drive. Wiley's Place has it all: remote mountain living for those seeking peace and quiet, and some of the best attractions in western North Carolina within easy reach. We hope to have you as our guest!

Breathtaking View

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Wiley's Place for our minimoon and could not have been more impressed. It was everything we wanted and then some. We were able to bring our two pups and they absolutely loved being able to run off leash and explore. Lori and John were excellent hosts, they're close enough to swing by for help but far enough to where you feel like you're the only ones on top of the mountain. We arrived late and they were kind enough to leave the porch and interior light on which helped tremendously. The cabin was stocked with all the kitchen and personal essentials you forget to pack and we were so grateful for that. The view is magnificent, pictures and words do it no justice it truly is breathtaking. We enjoyed our stay so much that we asked to stay an extra night and John and Lori were so great to let us enjoy their place for an additional, unplanned night. We absolutely will be returning! John and Lori were absolutely wonderful to work with. We can't say enough good things about our stay. It truly was magical and it was the perfect way to wrap up our wedding week.

Perfect Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and another couple rented Wiley's Cabin for a few days and loved it! It was such a pleasure waking up to the awesome mountain views in the morning and watching the sun set over the mountains in the evening. This cabin is so far away from anything that the silence is palpable. Be sure and bring everything you need because there is no quick trip to the store. The owner was more than willing, however, to lend us a cup of buttermilk we had forgotten for a recipe! Hot tub felt wonderful after a long day of hiking at nearby Max Patch and Buckeye Ridge. Plenty of linens, towels, etc., and even though there is no fireplace, the heat source is fantastic. We didn't lack anything! The only thing I would have changed would have been cleaner windows for clearer views of mountain range. I can't wait to return to play in the wilderness and relax at this sweet place!

Amazing! Will be back!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, apologizes for the seriously late review. We were looking for a Spring Break getaway, and Max Patch was a great choice. We were pointed towards Lori and her cabin by a good friend, and we were not disappointed! Lori was super easy to work with, the cabin and views were amazing. We really enjoyed hiking the trails with our Ridgeback and can not wait to return! We also made a day trip to Asheville where they had great restaurants, breweries and chocolate.

Amazing in Every Way!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a family mountain getaway with friends and we could not have been more pleased with Wiley's Place! Lori was so easy to work with, answering all of our questions and made the planning simple and stress-free.

As others mentioned - if you're looking to get away, you will really get away here - no quick trips down the road for milk or bread! The drive up the mountain is not easy (AWD would have served us well, but our family wagon made it). But, wow! The view was well worth it!

The cabin itself was homey, simple and welcoming. Lori's artwork was lovely and we appreciated the personal touches. We had a full house, but had plenty of room for adults, kids and a dog to enjoy.

The kids adored running around outside and hiking up the road to find flowers, climb rocks and explore.

An absolute gem of a place that made for a perfect long weekend! We will definitely be back!
