Deer Hill is a classic, white clapboard, hilltop estate located two minutes from historic Glen Ellen and its restaurants, wineries, and gourmet market.
The house is a custom, two-story, New England-style farmhouse with high ceilings, tall windows, hardwood floors, and large slate-floored screen porch with brick hearth barbecue and rustic dining table. Large covered porches and open decks surround the house. Four bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs, sleeps up to ten guests.
The 26-acre grounds encompass extensive lawns, badminton court, and large porch-side reflecting pond. The 52-foot, gray-bottomed, swimming pool overlooking the valley is edged in large stone slabs and incorporates loveseats. A large deck with panoramic vistas and a six-person spa frame each end. The knee-deep reflecting pond is filtered and ideal for wading or lazy floating. Hiking trails on the grounds connect to friendly neighbors' trails.
Couples as well as families return to Deer Hill. In addition to deer, quail and diverse bird life are plentiful. Deer Hill is midway up the Valley of the Moon between Sonoma and Kenwood. After a day of hiking, biking, swimming, or shopping, a gentle afternoon Pacific Ocean breeze creates an ideal climate for pre-dinner contemplation on the covered octagonal porch, barbecue dinner on the screen porch overlooking the pond, and coffee around a fire in the porch's brick hearth.
We've come here 3 straight years now and it's become a tradition. This amazing house has views on both sides of the mountain, and a pool that's great for relaxing. The grounds are what make this house. Open grass yard for a game of football, a badminton court, tether ball, 2 hammocks, 3 decks, screened in porch etc... No neighbors in site, so it's very quiet and secluded. We'll be back next year. The location is easy to drive to multiple wineries, restaurants, and grocery stores.
The photos do not begin to do justice to this beautiful home. The home is big enough for a large group to be comfortable and the kitchen is perfect for cooking for large groups. The outdoor patios are spectacular and provide amazing views on a clear day. We loved the indoor/outdoor options and were blessed with great December weather. The hot tub was also a great addition, also with views in all directions. This is truly a private property with no immediate neighbors yet easy to get to the wine country and surrounding areas (if you ever want to leave the property!) Would love to return in the future
Words cannot do justice to the warm memories we will always carry with us about our time at Deer Hill, but we will try. Truly a magical place, and we were blessed that Nancy shared her home with us. We could go on and describe countless moments from the extraordinary views and the varied and multiple gathering areas both in and outside the house to the deer that stopped by every morning and night. Put simply, 7 adults and 2 little ones shared a special time in a place unlike any other on earth.
Thank you Nancy for helping make our birthdays such a wonderful celebration!

My husband and I stayed at Deer Hill with a few other couples to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We were absolutely blown away when we arrived to the property. I honestly can't say enough about how absolutely beautiful it was. You can tell the property is very well cared for and loved by its owners. We spent most of our time sitting on the large pool deck in the nice, comfortable lawn chairs, swimming in the large pool, and soaking in the hot tub - all of which overlooked amazing views of Sonoma. We felt like we were in a completely secluded paradise. It was the perfect weekend! The house was so nice and well-cared for with a large, open kitchen and screened in porch with a nice, long table large enough to fit everyone. The large grill was immaculate when we arrived and worked perfectly. The bedrooms were all well cared for, and the master bedroom was the size of about 3 bedrooms in 1!
In addition to everyone being overwhelmed at just how amazing the Deer Hill property and home was, the owner Nancy was very kind and helpful. And the location could not get any better (although we never left the house!). We are already dreaming of our next opportunity to come back!
This was our second year renting this house and we absolutely love it. You can easily wine taste close by, go out to dinner, or just stay at the house, grill, lay in hammocks, or swim in a pool that looks out to a beautiful valley. We plan on making this an annual trip and are already counting down till next year!
Wow! What a magnificent surprise…not only in first impressions, but around each corner of this property. This Deer Hill property perfectly reflects the aura of the surrounding Sonoma Valley. It offers complete serenity and privacy from atop a hill overlooking the beautiful valley, yet, is still just moments away from top-notch wineries. I recommend heading just 10 mins (if that) down the road to Benziger and Imagery wineries, which are both fully biodynamic-functioning properties. So impressive! We loved that wine tasting was so convenient (and delicious), but we actually cut it short because we loved the house so much and wanted to get back to enjoy the pool and its views.
This home offers so much more than described. Between the pool and hot tub, badminton/volleyball court, large lawn and lawn games (all stored at the house), and tether ball, our large group of women found ourselves in a playful slice of heaven. The extensive offerings outside also matched the spacious, comfortable setting inside the home. We were able to easily cook meals in the kitchen and on the BBQ. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking pots, pans, bowls, utensils, plates, glasses, and all of your kitchen needs. For early risers, you'll also appreciate how beautifully different the property can be when the fog hugs the hillside and the deer and turkeys roam the yards.
The owner is very kind and so easy to work with. I cannot wait to have an excuse to plan another getaway to Sonoma. This property was perfect in so many ways and we cannot wait to return!
Badminton, Canoeing, Wine Tasting (year round) in Glen Ellen, Kenwood, and Sonoma is less than 12 minutes away
