Located between Bradford Street and Commercial Street in the East End of Provincetown. The Barn overlooks a large flower garden and is just a ten minute walk to the center of town. Only 200 feet from the bay beach. With 26 foot ceilings in the spacious living room with a fireplace the Barn is a warm comfortably retreat all year round. Its spacious deck with a view of flowers in the summer and fall is private and a wonderful spot to an enjoy an evening meal.
The interior is lit by a bank of skylights facing North which makes it all the more comfortable for a quiet evening by the fire.
As two couples, each with a small dog, we were seeking a weekly rental that was spacious, comfortable, quiet, dog friendly, close to the water and easily accessible to town. The barn more than met all these requirements. Everything you could possibly need was inside, and if something was not (in our case, a knife sharpener - we had two fussy cooks), the owners ran out and bought one for us. Looking at the map we knew in advance it would be approximately a 15-20 minute walk into the center of town. The walk on Commercial Street however is lovely, and when we so wanted, calling for taxi's was a snap. Other than driving to the ocean side beach and grocery store, we left the cars in the spaces that came with the unit. The bay beach is only one block away, and it was wonderful to walk there in the morning with the dogs and a cup of coffee. Of course, the sunsets were fantastic as well. Bonuses included a washer/dryer, plenty of towels (separate towel supply for the dogs) new bbq, large deck, with gates to keep in the dogs, property abuts a community garden filled with flowers. Overall, a very comfy beach house.
We chose the Barn for a multigenerational retreat with my parents and our 2 kids (4.5 and 1.5 yrs). The barn is very spacious. The deck was perfect for them with the baby/dog gates - very thoughtfully done. The surrounding garden was wonderful and peaceful. The walk to the beach is short even for little legs. The height of the ceiling in the barn made it pleasant despite the scorching heat. Camille and Jonathan were great hosts, gave us a crib for our little guy and even drove us into town three time because we came via Fast Ferry and had no car. Only downsides (which we didn't mind at all): a little far from the action (if you are there to party which is alas past us :-)), sound from main room is audible in bedrooms and no dishwasher.
Perfect deck. For humans and canines. Perfect views of gardens and the sea. A huge open space the seems to hug you in spite of the size, with everything you could possible want to make you feel at home. The East End location insures peace and quiet, and the beach access down the little hill and through the garden was awesome. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the owners maintained their charm even at 1am when we took the wrong key with us for a night on the town. This is truly a remarkable place to stay.
We didn't want to leave. We've stayed in many, many places in town over the years but there is just something about this place that makes you wish you could live there forever. The deck is perfect. The view from it even better. With a big gas grill and puppy-friendly design, it was amazing in the morning light and just as enticing at dusk. The first floor, with its huge, open space, had the biggest fireplace we've ever seen and a kitchen equipped with pretty much everything you could hope to find...just like being home. The tv in the living area was almost as big as the barn itself and it even had tons of cable stations. The furnishings are simple but incredibly comfortable and the huge windows way up near the ceiling kept the entire building bathed in light. The bathroom was perfectly stocked with towels for both humans and dogs, and we never ran out of hot water. The two bedrooms upstairs are on the small side, but their windows are huge and the beds very, very clean and comfortable. As big as this place is, you never feel lost. You simply feel at home. We've never stayed this far east before but we were rewarded with perfect peace and quiet. Beach access, through Suzanne's Garden, is another huge plus...like walking through Heaven to get to Nirvana. Our hosts were as charming as their rental, even when we had to call them at 1am after taking the wrong key for a night on the town. And, as is so important nowadays, wi-fi was readily available. One tip: save your quarters. We love the washer and dryer. We just thought it was odd to pay for it. If you get a chance to rent this place. do it. Just make sure you save room for us again.
I stayed at the Barn for a week before Labor Day, 2014. I've stayed at a lot of different places in Provincetown - hotels, B&B's, rentals. This property is top of my list. It's super clean and fresh -- no musty smell or manky grandmothery aesthetic. It's really spacious -- the high ceilings, open floor plan, and windows are fantastic -- I've stayed in some shoeboxes in Provincetown but it's hard to find somewhere that is this spacious. The deck looks out to a stunning garden, and you can see the ocean. It's not on the beach, but the way it's set in from the road offers a quiet hidden oasis.
The two bedrooms are average size (and have AC), are very comfortable, and one has great views of the ocean--the sheets were high quality (white cotton, high thread count, and I'm a snob when it comes to bed linens). The bathroom is standard and clean, with high quality white fluffy towels. There is a great top of the line gas grill on the deck, and we cooked more than we thought we would. The kitchen has everything you would need.
We brought our bikes as the Barn is down in the East End of town, but if you are on foot walking into town isn't far (probably a 10-15 minute walk). It's also really quiet -- so if you want to avoid the noisier parts of Commercial Street this is a great location. We brought our dog and he had a great time, including walks on the beach.
Jonathan and Camille were really helpful when we needed anything, and they keep everything ship shape! I'll definitely return to the Barn anytime I'm visiting Provincetown, it's a hidden gem.
We had a wonderful week at the Barn for Carnival. It's a big, clean, spacious and practical place. We grilled several times, had meals on the patio, and had our coffee in Suzanne's Garden, which feels like your yard, though it's a public garden. (The garden is absolutely beautiful, and not heavily visited, which was nice). The owners were very attentive and helpful, providing plenty of towels, sheets, and free laundry in the basement (great perk!). The beach is right there. We rented a kayak for the week and the friendly neighbors showed us where to dock it so we didn't have to bring it back up to the house. The space is close enough to MacMillan Wharf to feel connected to PTown activities (the carnival parade went right by us on Commercial Street), but far enough away to be a peaceful escape.
It's a perfect place for a small group of people. We had five and were very comfortable, even with the single restroom.
