About Carol Alvarez
Hi, Thanks for your interest in visiting Sajama House. We are originally from Colorado and Bolivia. Carol grew up in Oruro near the 21,463 foot (6,542 m) Sajama peak, Bolivia’s highest mountain. The name Sajama House reflects the awe inspiring views of the San Juans. When we are not in Colorado, we live and work improving public health in Africa.
Carol Alvarez purchased this Cabin in 2018
Why Carol Alvarez chose Ridgway
Its been our vision to find a place to call home that would give us inspiration every moment. Sajama House is perched on the edge of the escarpement overlooking America’s highest peaks, and most beautiful mountain and valley views. We hope your stay here will be re-creating, and allow your sprit to fly.
What makes this Cabin unique
The views from the living room, and front deck are calming and beautiful, out the back, you look to the north and Grand Mesa. You can simply watch the day go by, as the clouds dance with 14,000 peaks, colors play across the mountains and valley out your front door, and at night the Milky Way crosses the sky above the house..

Great Views Indeed
We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay. As advertised, the house offered incredible views and we enjoyed sitting out on the back balcony both mornings and evenings. Check-in couldn’t have been simpler, and we found everything we needed in the kitchen, etc. I appreciated the washer/dryer after having been traveling for nearly a week and picking up my son from camp here in CO. Thanks for a relaxing stay!
First visit to Ridgway
What a stunning view from the place — as posted on Vrbo!
Efficient clean comfortable getaway. Quiet peaceful neighborhood.
Thanks for making your place available! We shall return!
Great hosts and surreal panoramic beauty in a nicely decorated home.
4 of 5; great place!
The place is great. Awesome view and is far enough away from town to get a peaceful setting but also close enough to the three surrounding towns to be able to travel to them each day if desired. Would definitely stay there again!
Only two items we did not enjoy would be the quality of beds in one of the rooms, not extremely comfortable but still sleepable. The other item we’d like to see change would be to install a real log fire place instead of the one in there now that is for visual appeal only. Other than that the place is awesome and perfect for a couple of two or even up to six people if needed
Jared thanks for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay, we also enjoy the proximity to Telluride, Ouray and Ridgway. Having recently acquired the property furnished, and you being our second guest we truly appreciate and will consider your comments in improving the experiences of our future guests .
Our stay at the Sajama House was magnificent! Beautiful views of the mountains, wonderful cozy home, and very attentive owners, paying attention to details. I am a self-taught chef, and found the kitchen very well supplied with cook-ware, plates, glass ware, utensils and common spices, etc. Very clean home and easy entrance with great balconies. Loved the electric fire place! Would highly recommend this property! Thank you for an awesome Christmas vacation experience! Will definitely being visiting again soon!
Sajama House looks out upon the San Juan Mountains, including the Cimarron Range. The views and quaintness of Ouray County, live up to its being known as the little Switzerland of America..
