Escape to Bryant's Brook, a beautiful, unique cabin that's surrounded by woods and completely secluded from all neighbors but easy to access all year round.
Lovingly built with pegged, hand-hewn barn beams, rough-cut logs and wide-plank floors cut from the surrounding pine-covered mountains, this unique home is both rustic and utterly comfortable. Fully furnished with beautiful local antiques, two woodstoves, and an artesian well, but with a modern kitchen, and digitally monitored central heat, it's the perfect place for a romantic ski trip or escape from the city for a couple, a big family or a group of friends.
The three main bedrooms are up a spiral staircase, but if someone has trouble with stairs there is a sunroom with its own woodstove off the kitchen that can be used as a bedroom. Two bedrooms upstairs have double beds, and the third has two single beds and child's bed. The spacious living room has a woodstove that opens to function as a fireplace, a fieldstone hearth, and a picture window looking onto the pond. The french doors open onto one of the two back sun decks.
Off the kitchen is a spacious covered front porch with a gas grill. There are also two campfires. One is on the bank of Bryant's Brook, which has a great swimming hole for summer. The other is up in the woods, by the stone fence. Both have comfortable seating and a giant boulder to arrange food on if you're cooking over the fire.
Surrounded by protected woods on all sides, the property includes an apple orchard for you to pick apples, an organic garden with vegetables, berries and herbs. There are two ponds connected by a spring that winds between them, and 2.5 acres of landscaped lawn and gardens.
This is kid paradise! There is a toddler bed, pack and play, potty, safety gate, high chair, a sandbox and a tree house... Well-behaved dogs are welcome, there is a dog bed, and dogs can run off leash, we're surrounded by a beautiful old stone wall, woods and a stream.
Please don't smoke inside.
Our home is on its own, we have one neighbor up the hill through the trees. We are about three miles from the picturesque village of Andes, which offers terrific antique shops and boutiques, its own museum, several galleries, outstanding restaurants, and live music.
In the winter, if you want to ski, it's only 20 minutes from Belleayre ski area, 30 from Plattekill, and 1 hour from Hunter. Also, it's one hour and fifteen minutes from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, 40 minutes from Woodstock and New York City is a 2.5 hour drive.
In June, July and August, we give preference to weeklong rentals, from Friday to Friday, and we only take shorter bookings two weeks in advance.

About Tim Gilman-Sevcik
I'm from Colorado, so I didn't think I'd ever fall in love with the mountains on the East Coast, until we discovered Andes. The area is just beautiful, with steep mountain hiking trails, great fishing and water sports, picturesque towns and irresistible antique shops everywhere. My family loves coming up here all year round, for summer hikes, winter skiing and skating, and just relaxing in the house and the gardens.
Tim Gilman-Sevcik purchased this House in 2007
Why Tim Gilman-Sevcik chose Andes
The house is a dream come true - every time we arrive from the city we're amazed at the beauty of the materials and the craftsmanship that went into creating the house and the gardens. The kids and the dogs love being outside all day, swimming, eating apples, playing in the tree house. It's so close to the city and a world away.
What makes this House unique
Because we're surrounded by protected forests the house feels very secluded, without being difficult to reach, we have just one neighbor, but you can't even see his house, so it's very private. The gardens are always producing apples, raspberries, tomatoes and pumpkins that practically grow by themselves - there's so much water because of the spring-fed ponds and the brook by the house. It's an entirely unique property, unlike any other you're likely to find, built out of reclaimed barn materials and cleverly reused artifacts, including an old gravestone as a step.

A sanctuary in Andes
Had a lovely stay in Andes. Tim was very accommodating - and his property oozes charm! Looking forward to my return.
Christmas in the Catskills
We truly enjoyed staying at this rustic home. Very comfortable place to stay. We are a close knit family with great pride in our Czech heritage and all of the small touches of Czech culture in this home put a smile on our face. The town of Andes is charming and a must visit destination if you stay at this home. Looking forward to coming back!
A great property!
This was one of the most lovely home rentals we've ever done! The grounds are beautiful and the cabin so charming and cozy. There was a small hiccup to our stay in that the cleaning people didn't make it there before we arrive but Tim was very responsive. All in all a great stay and highly recommended, especially for families.
Beautiful, secluded, peaceful
My family has the fondest memories of our vacation here. The setting was perfect. The surroundings magnificent. The house is spacious and very well stocked. We did swim in the pond but late June it was still a bit too cold. My daughter spent a quiet afternoon reading in the tree house. The owner was very accommodating. There was a mixup with the cleaning help before we arrived and they offered us a free night to make up for it plus no cleaning fee, which I thought was very considerate. We found horseback riding not too far away as well as lots of bookshops. All in all we absolutely loved it here.
Idyllic property for a family gathering!
We rented Tim's house for a family get together with our kids. The cabinet and the grounds are utterly charming, green and kid friendly. The space was very comfortable for us to cook, grill outside and enjoy the outdoors, spread out in play indoors, and even play the piano.
The home was well located near groceries, cute towns, nature walks and even close enough to visit Woodstock.
We will most certainly keep this property in mind for future visits to the area. Thanks Tim for helping us have a wonderful weekend!
Glorious Fall Foliage weekend
My friend and I drove up for a weekend of rest and relaxation and this place was exactly what we needed- a comfortable and peaceful home that inspired us to cook and read and write all the while seeing stunning fall foliage all around. We were just in time for picking the last apples before the frost got to them, went on a hike and had a great time checking out some shops in the hamlet of Andes. We immensely enjoyed our stay and will most certainly be back! Thank you so much!!
We are very close to several great ski areas. Plattekill, where kids ski free, Belleayre, the big mountain, as well as Hunter and Wyndham. There's also cross country skiing. In summer, we're right on the edge of Catskills Park, so there are almost unlimited options for hiking, as well as boating and fishing.
Additional information about rental rates
PLEASE NOTE: On holidays and long weekends we prefer if you stay at least three nights. In the summer, rentals are for the whole week, starting on Fridays, until two weeks before, when we'll rent for shorter time periods. We don't rent for longer than two weeks maximum.
