A little slice of French Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a peaceful, restful and relaxing holiday and that's exactly what we got!

We've never done a self-catering villa holiday before, this villa has set a very high standard and we are now converts.

Met on arrival by Catherine (property manager) and Marcel (property owner) who were very welcoming and informative despite language barriers.

The villa is set in a rural location with a lovely outlook at the Alpilles ranges, surrounded by small agriculture producers.

The only noise is from the crickets, birds, the odd neigh from the horses, and the occasional passing car.

The villa is clean, modern and very well appointed - crockery, cutlery, pots, pans in abundance, the only thing missing was a cheese grater.

Beds were comfy, plenty of spare bedding should you need it and towels provided.

Tv's in every room and the showers although not powerful were big walk in ones, be careful though shower floor gets really slippery.

Garden was big and lush with interesting wildlife - frogs, little lizards and we found a preying Mantis! I'm not a creepy crawley fan but they kept themselves to themselves :-)

Pool was a great size and a welcome cool place in the 37c heat! Plenty of sunbeds for everyone too.

There's a covered terrace outside with a table and seating for 10, a mist spraying system is installed if it gets too hot - bliss!

The nearest village is Chateaurenard which is really pretty and has a market on a Saturday, we also drove to Marseilles for the day but we decided rural France was more us and couldn't wait to get back to the tranquillity of the villa.

I won't pretend everything was perfect so here are some real picky negatives, mostly from our teenage son's point if view:

- WIFI not consistent - used our data instead

- French TV (I know! It didn't bother me but if you are bringing a teenager....)

- Broken garden parasol

- Some door furniture loose

- As mentioned before, slippery shower floor

- More flys than I'm used to, but outside and only bugged you if you had food

- Warned about mosquitos in the evenings, but I was only bitten twice and I'm usually eaten alive, so not really a problem

- Think this point depends where you come from but we found it strange that the toilets were seperate from the shower rooms/ensuites and there were no hand basins where the toilets were

All in all we had the perfect holiday in the petfect setting - we will be back!

Tres Aggreable

  • 5 of 5

New Beach House, 5 hectares of land with stunning views of the Alpilles

Between the Alpilles and the Durance, the hill Towers and the Peak Chabaud topped by the "Golden Lady" dominate the plain and the town of Chateaurenard.

The late Middle Ages, the region was the cradle of the Reynard family that gave its name to the city.

5 MINUTES St Rémy de Provence Provençal capital of the art of living where Nostradamus was born, you will find: food, local produce, olive oil, wines and vineyards, craft, market Provençal, the artists, the beautiful shops and art galleries, nature walks and hikes, places painted by Van Gogh, the Roman archaeological site Glanum, traditions: Christmas in provence, transhumance, festivals and 300 days of sunshine per year ...

10 MINUTES Avignon Capital of Christianity in the Middle Ages, Avignon has retained its history an exceptional heritage, much of which is a UNESCO World Heritage:

the Papal Palace and the Bridge of Avignon, but also the Palace Square with the baroque facade of the Mint, the Petit Palais museum and the Cathedral of the Doms and the ramparts from the garden Doms up at the bridge.

Les Baux de Provence classified Station, Remarkable Site of Taste, Most Beautiful Villages of France, Les Baux-de-Provence affirm their prestige image site within the Regional Park of the Alpilles.

Located in the heart of the Alpilles on a rocky plateau, the city of Les Baux de Provence dominates Arles and the Camargue and offers a breathtaking panorama. Patiently restored, the city has a historical and architectural heritage with 22 monuments:

The Château des Baux is a unique testimony of medieval history, the Church of Saint Vincent both Romanesque and Renaissance with its beautiful stained glass Max Ingrand, the Post Tenebras Lux renaissance window, which shows the influence of the Huguenots in the eleventh century mansions and sixteenth seventeenth century hosting art galleries and museums such as the Musée Yves Brayer and Santon Museum and the Louis Jou Foundation where you will discover other treasures, not to mention the Mayor which occupies the former Hôtel de Manville.

At the heart of the Alpilles, the monumental Carrières de Lumières 14 meters high welcome unique multimedia entertainment world.

The Camargue shaped over the centuries by the Rhone Almighty, the Camargue delta is a unique example in the Mediterranean, unique in the world. The sky, the earth and the sea as there are laid flat, seasoned by wind, water, sun and a big tip of salt: the scenery is total and endless sensations. As are many of its beaches to the tunes from around the world.

Natural side, ponds and lagoons compete for space with sansouires, salted land planted with samphire. Close reeds, which also cover many cottages in Europe, white Camargue horses, robust local breed, live in harmony with the bulls in black livery, recognizable by their lyre-shaped horns. More than half of the 660 European bird species are visible in the Camargue. Among them, you can not miss the colonies of flamingos, colored by mini shrimp which they feast.

THEN L isle sur la Sorgue and the Vaucluse Fountains

Follow the white water of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and its mysteries in Isle sur la Sorgue, antiques capital

Between Mont Ventoux and the Luberon hills, the Sorgue river of clear water, winds of Fontaine de Vaucluse, its resurgence in Isle sur la Sorgue, "Venice comtadine" became the capital of the flea market.

Fontaine de Vaucluse, this "Vallis Clausa" gave its name to the department, Vaucluse. Here, at the foot of a fig tree that seems to watch over this mysterious source, spring water gushes from the depths of the earth trembling foam that creates rainbows in the sky the sun; in summer, it is a deep abyss and dark that is discovered, and the fig tree reveals his roots as a gold digger, digging the earth in search of treasures hidden deep ...

At Isle sur la Sorgue, change of scenery. Sorgue sings in the paddle wheels, the canals reminiscent of Venice, and where it sometimes crosses nego chin, these "Provencal gondolas." Follow the docks, and you find along the way the stalls of antiques, including this small town is one of the European capitals.
