Nice little place on the lake. Good location.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The snowmobiling was phenomenal in the UP this year!!
Cute Cabin centrally located in Curtis. Everything you need is RIGHT THERE!
READ THIS COMMENT. Ignore the rest. I was skeptical due to the past years comments, however, my stay exceeded expectation! Understand that this cabin is near the center of town. There are quite a few, very nice, little stores and shops,a restaurant (or two), and 1 bar. The bar is a nice place to hang out on the in the evenings and is the place to be during the weekends.
The inside is very cute, the kitchen is nice, and has everything you need to show up and go. It has a TV with a DVD player should you get bored. The boat has a battery, trolling motor (with charger), and all the safety gear to get out and fish! The local stores all carry bait and all the fixings you could need for a long day of fishing.
This cabin is a PERFECT stay for snowmobiling!!! Directly on the trail, down the road from gas, direct access to the lake, bar is just down the road, and the cabin is quite warm! It does have an open enough floor plan to hang out and have a great time! Stayed here with my family (for the reason of snowmobiling) and had a wonderful weekend on the trails and local lakes.
You can hear the bar during Friday nights, so come knowing that you are not staying in that peaceful cabin in the woods and that the location has its many pros and one con. You are staying in a nice cabin with all the amenities, directly on the water, and in a central location. Keep in mind the cost and what you would expect (for a cabin that sleeps so many) and you will realize that the value of this rental is fantastic! I personally recommend this cabin and will be coming back for many adventures in the future!
Josh, thanks for the kind review.
You are welcome to return with your family at any time. I
While the cabin itself is very nice and has a great view, the maintenance and cleaning are woefully lacking. The furniture and carpet are quite stained. The beds were quite uncomfortable and could use some updating. Pillows themselves are very stained and smell like body odor. One of the bedrooms is missing a smoke detector. Most of the post and pans have the nonstick coating flaking off quite bad. Could use a new coffee maker, because it takes over and hour to brew a half of a pot. There is no lighting on the back porch, whether it is because the light bulbs are burnt out or there is no fixtures. The shower curtain rod needs attention, it does not stay in place. We did try to fix it. Has not been very well cleaned. Spider webs and dirt in corners. Layer of dust on tables in living room and bedrooms, on top of hot water registers, and knife block. The mop was put away wet in the closet. Did not help with the musty smell throughout our stay. The blinds are all either broken or won't open and close very easily. Many are missing slats or part of slats. It was chilly during our stay, so the windows stayed closed. Friday night with the bar across the street would definitely be difficult to sleep with the windows open. The cabin itself needs to have some maintenance done around the doors, as there is wood rot happening. The UP has very sparse cell coverage, and most cabins have a landline available because of this. This cabin has neither landline nor internet. You can sometimes get wireless from local businesses that have unsecured connections, but you won't have strong enough signal for making calls. For future trips up there, we will be looking at different places to stay. Expensive for what was provided.
Nice basic accomodations on the lake, with a couple of issues
Place was fairly clean (aside from a few spiders, which I realize go with the territory), nice lake view, and convenient to town store, restaurants, laundramat. Gas grill actually had a working ignitor (a rarity in my VRBO experience). Biggest negatives for me were that one of the amenities identified was a row boat. There indeed was row boat, but it was one that you could not row (one of the oar locks was missing). While a trolling motor was provided, I was not experienced with the operation of the motor so did not enjoy that amenity which was one the amenities that really led me to the place in the first place. I brought my fishing gear and it ended up just being dead weight as the water nearby was so shallow fishing was not possible from the shore. The other issue was the noise on Friday night (to be accurate, the only night this was an issue). The bar next door was playing such loud music (until at least 1AM) that the property was shaking/reverberating, so not sure even earplugs would have helped stop the thumping of the bass.
Great location, decent cabin
Lake is right out the back door, walkable to several local restaurants and shops. Loved that the boat was available to guests. Cabin could have been a little cleaner, furniture and mattresses were not the best. Overall had a nice stay and loved relaxing and having a fire in the backyard.
Prime location! Lake is just feet away from exiting the back doors of the cabin. Groceries, restaurants, and ice cream parlor all in walking distance. Very relaxing!
This property is located in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's a great central area to see many of the UP's attractions. Great as a hunting camp, located near trail heads for snowmobiling, and is right on the lake for swimming, boating, and fishing.
