Where to start? First off, Mirepoix is a perfect base to explore the area. Easy day trips to Carcasonne, Narbonne, the Niaux Caves. The town itself is lovely, good restaurants, really good boulangeries. We highly recommend L'Autre Jardin for Sunday lunch.
Now on to the house itself. I was traveling with three girlfriends and we each had our own bedroom. The updates that have been made increase the overall comfort without sacrificing the old world charm. Hot water is plentiful, there are plenty of outlets and plug extenders and the wifi is reliable. We especially appreciated the care package of wine, milk, coffee, etc. The neighbor ladies are as sweet as they can be and pretended to understand our schoolgirl French.
We highly recommend Paddy's house in Mirepoix and will surely stay here again should we return to the area.
Charming home in delightful village
This was a great place for three couples traveling together in northern Spain and southwest France. The home is very old but nicely renovated and very well located near the town square which is surrounded with half-timbered houses, restaurants and shops. We used this place as a base to tour the area sights, which include the fortified city of Carcassonne, Niaux where you can view prehistoric drawings in a cave still open to the public, and Vals, where we enjoyed the small but charming romanesque chapel (also had a nice lunch there in the only restaurant in town). The home has historic interest with its narrow footprint, beamed ceiling, rear courtyard, and wood shutters that actually open and close in the french style. The accommodation is practical also, with four bedrooms, two full baths plus laundry room with commode and small but well stocked kitchen. The only negative for some people would be that all the bedrooms are up a narrow staircase with two bedrooms on the second floor and two on the third (none on the ground floor). The stairs were not a problem for us, however, and my wife and i enjoyed the entire third floor as our own private suite, with bedroom, full bath and "dressing room", for which we used the second bedroom space. We six friends were very comfortable here, sharing breakfast around the kitchen table after early morning trips to the nearby bakeries for fresh croissants, and enjoying local cheeses, fruits, country terrines and hams from the wonderful street markets and shops. The house is brimming with atmosphere, guide books and other useful features. We all loved the red-shaded, three armed floor lamp in the living room and appreciated the clothesline in the back courtyard! All in all a very charming house in a delightful village!
Authentic French townhouse in beautiful cite
The house is conveniently placed for restaurants and bars. A comfortable stay for 4 adults and a schnauzer. Well equipped and has a pleasant atmosphere.and ambiance
Very charming chatty neighbours which makes you feel part of the Mirepoix life.
Fantastic place to be
This is a beautifully renovated house, full of original features yet light, comfortable and with everything you need. The property was as described, clean, well maintained. Mirepoix is wonderfully historic and interesting of itself and the house is right at the heart just a couple of streets from the main square so nice and peaceful. There are over 20 places to eat and drink in town and it is good value as a result with a good deal of choice. Also it is a great starting point for walks and rides with a Grand Randonnee route passing through and a disused railway converted to a high quality cycle route through beautiful countryside with a mountain backdrop. The surrounding area is full of breathtaking historical sites like Montsegur - a steep climb but worth it.
We had a fantastic week with all the family - (three boys) and would have liked another week. Thanks for letting us enjoy it!
Thank you for your review. I am disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay. Our property is a traditional townhouse, located close to amenities and the town square. This style of house typically has a ground floor designed to keep cool in summer and some of the beds are traditional old french beds. We feel that this all adds to the character and charm of the house although we do understand the need for comfort and due to your feedback we will review the bed in question. As it is a village location, the courtyard is overlooked by some windows as you would expect. I am sorry to hear that a neighbour caused disturbance during the night and I hopefully this was an isolated incident. I do hope that you have some pleasant memories of your stay...........
We 4 related adults in our 60's chose this perfect French small town ancient townhouse as our base for exploring: Limoux, Foix, Carcassonne, Fanjeaux, prehistoric park, Chateau d'Arques, Canal du Midi, Mont Segur, and of course Mirepoix itself and it's famous Monday market. We went to charming French outdoor cafes in a different place for lunch every day, flower shows, concerts, and ate at home for breakfast and in the evenings. The rental has great modern conveniences with all the old charm maintained. The people running the place were very charming and accommodating. We are recommending otto our friends.
We are so happy that you had a lovely time. You have visited places that we have not even been to! Thank you for giving us a perfect rating and for recommending our house to others. Take care.
