Beautiful home, perfect location and an amazing experience!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home for the weekend of new years, the house is absolutely beautiful and it was a perfect amount of space for 18 people and there was definitely room for more. There was enough seating for 14 people but there were 2 folding tables and a few chairs which was so convenient! My friends and i would definitely stay at this location again. The projector room was a perfect touch to watch movies on our down time. The house is equiped with almost everything we needed so we never left the house except some of us went to go skiing/snowboarding which was not a far drive. The only tips id give to the next renters are to definitely bring sheets for the beds (it is listed in the contract too) and that you do have to get rid of the trash on your own and separate the recycables. The trash location is maybe a 2 min drive from the house(this is also listed in the contract) The views were beautiful! Everything about this house made ringing in the new year perfect! Will definitely rent the house again in the future! Thank you Michael for letting us stay in your home!

Huge House, Owner Lacks Communication

  • 3 of 5

I stayed at this house for a group of 17 in August 2017. The house was big and enormous and was able to fit our group comfortably. The projector aspect on the first floor was a really nice touch. I did not have a problem checking into the house either.

Although the house was big, there were definitely issues:

-funky smell on the first floor

-not all the lights in the house work... we had to try all of them to see which one works and which doesn't

-the front door lock was very loose and we had a hard time locking the door every time we left the house

-the morning of my check in, Michael texted me and told me not to use the basement bathroom because it was a macerated. Although he got a plumber to temporarily fix that bathroom, we were still unable to use it to shower which is a big inconvenience for such a big group!

-did not specify where WiFi was... had to text Michael and ask for location

The main issue I had with this rental was with management and not the house itself. If you are the type who does not care about the amount of time the owner takes to reply to your questions/concerns, then I'd recommend this house. If you are one who like quick responses, then this house is definitely NOT for you. The amount of stress Michael caused me was insane... It would take him at least 2 days to respond to any questions/concerns I had and I would need to follow up a couple of times before he was able to address my concerns. In addition, I had to fill out a vehicle registration form for all the cars that will stay at his property and every time I emailed for a confirmation from either Michael or the community there was no response. I finally texted Michael asking when I will get a confirmation to ensure I won't have any issues entering the property and he told me "You won't get one. (followed by reasons I do not think it's appropriate to say here.)" He could've clearly communicated this to me in my initial emails to him but did not until I texted him. Again, very poor communication from Michael. Lastly, I understand it takes up to SIX WEEKS to get my security deposit refund back and yesterday marks the sixth week since my stay. I texted Michael asking when I will get that back and he said he was awaiting word from the community that there are no extra vehicle charges .. um why didn't he ask about this earlier and waited until 6 weeks later?! Weird.

All in all, the house was good but Michael's communication needs to be better.

Owner's Response: This was one of those rentals you wish you had said no to. I know that sounds weird but you get a vibe sometimes that some people are just going to over do it. I have over 60 emails which at first I tried to keep up with. but was just unable to. My response to " did you receive my payment yet?' was " I will send you an emailed receipt the day we receive it." This was followed by daily emails and texts for 5 days asking the same question. Anyway she is a sweet girl just needed coddling and answers that the website can provide. As for the car registration In 10 years i have never had a confirmation from the office. they only call when the info is not there. It so happens that of the three workers in the office, one retired and one passed away that week. so getting through to them was impossible. Lastly, the macerating toilet had a backup during the group prior to her groups stay final day. We had chem dry come in and go over everything and sanitize which did leave an overly clean smell but it wasn't overbearing after the first day. We offered our 5 bedroom house up the street for showers and such. not a perfect solution but it gave them 3 more then they had originally. I will also confess a bit of trouble adjusting to Homeaways new system where all communication goes through there email system. i can't set alerts properly so it is different than it used to be where I could have a banner on my phone and push notifications every 10 minutes and not miss an email. it has been a crazy year with homeaway. We have always had fantastic relationships with our guests but now i don't get an email or phone number and can't talk to them until they pay money. crazy.

bad management

  • 2 of 5

Let me begin by stating this was our 12th Annual family trip, out of the 12 this was the worst,

Why did I give 2 stars not one? Great location since it's close to many parks and activities and the house is huge with enough space for 20+ adults.

The house didn't have bed sheets, didn't have pillow cases, for three nights for 20 adults only 4 rolls of toilet paper and the toilets and the house wasn't cleaned at all.

The real funny part was for the first time I didn't get my full deposit, the reason given was missing beach tags.. I left the place on 7/4, I get an email on 8/14 stating that 12 tags were missing... that's almost after 5 weeks.... 😂 We didn't use any of the amenities in that location and it was too late to even ask 20 of my family if they even had kept those beach tags some where else... I find this ridiculous...

Please rent this place at your own risk

Owner's Response: Hi Everyone! I don't quite know how to respond to this one. Multiple times-- On the lease, in each receipt email, in the welcome packet etc.. We inform you that you will need to bring bed and bath linens. We also provide you with the contact info for a linen rental company that we worked a deal with to provide our guests a 30% discount on all rentals since we have 5 homes and do so much business with them. We also include in our welcome Packet a " Things to bring for an enjoyable vacation" sheet. We emphasize toilet paper and other paper goods. The dollar store is 5 miles away and we point out that it is a great " first stop" after determining what supplies you will need. Lastly our lease states that if you leave with the beach tags there is a $200 charge. Mainly because we have to purchase new ones. Which is a 2 hr drive and we need them right away because the next group checks in the same day as the last group checked out most times. Plus they are $6 apiece and we keep 25 at the house. I did only charge her for 12 since that was all that were missing. I know she is upset with the charge but if you are the next group arriving and you want to hit the beach and cant because the last group left with some beach tags how would you feel?

Great Place for a Group Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Just wanted to say what a great time we had renting this place in March 2017. Had everything you need for a week away. We had 10 individuals, so there was plenty of space. This is our 11th year renting in the Poconos and by far, this was the best place. Owner was great to deal with. Responded quickly to several questions upon arrival and ensured that the plow person made it out in time for our second wave of attendees Wednesday after 24+inches of snow on Tuesday. Great location, close to Blakeslee and ski resorts. Even though there are neighbors, it seems like you are in the middle of nowhere...especially when there is 24+inches of fresh snow outside....No reason to go anywhere, kick back, watch movies on the projection screen and just enjoy the house.
