Born and raised in beautiful Tioga County (God's Country) I had wanted to be close to my family.I always dreamed of having a 'log cabin' in the woods, when I found this place it was barely liveable, plywood steps, holey roof, sliding down the hill. After three years of constant construction and putting dreams to reality, we have a gorgeous place. We enjoy sharing it with others and especially like hearing the wonderful compliments on the unusual decor including the spiral staircase and slate compass in the floor.
We are located so close to everything at Tom Cat Hollow. You are only 1/2 hour from Corning glass works and a short drive beyond there to the Finger Lakes wineries. Just 15 minutes from the gorgeous Pine Creek valley and the Grand Canyon of PA. as well as the charming town of Wellsboro with it's gas lit streets and antique shops. Just as charming, the ability to sit on the front porch and listen to the Turkeys 'gobble' or see a deer browsing in the woods. Calm and peaceful, restful and cozy. Marshmallows at the fire pit, coffee on the porch in the misty morning. Who could want for more?
This is a large cabin perfect for a get-away. The pictures do not do it justice. The inside looks like a log cabin, with lots of images of bears, weaved baskets, handmade chairs and rustic cabin walls but with updated amenities. The kitchen has a glass stove-top, a microwave, a huge copper farm-house sink and a dishwasher to make cleanup quick and easy. There are plenty of dishes, pots, cake pans, and tons of utensils. This is a kitchen you will enjoy cooking in even on vacation. There is a perfect view of the outdoors from not just the dining room table but any room you are in. The porch is a wonderful area to have coffee, as you enjoy the sun brighten the sky and the morning, and watch the flying bugs come out at night. You will see birds, and squirrels, and you will hear chirping, and rustling of the leaves. If you are lucky you will see a black bear, or some deer.
The handmade log spiral stair case leads you to a romantic bedroom that overlooks the living room. The bed is a queen, and there are 2 dressers... try to stay long enough to use them. The bathroom is accommodating with a shower a large sink lots of towels and a laundry room in case you need to do your laundry.
This is a hidden gem, don't pass it up.
With all the wonderful reviews for this cabin, our expectations were very high and we were not disappointed. The cabin was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed during our weeklong stay. We spent a lot of time sitting on the front porch and were rewarded with a visit from a mother bear and her two cubs one evening (they did not approach the cabin, but stayed in the woods beyond the fire pit.) The wifi was excellent and the cabin was conveniently located near the Pine Creek Rail Trail, which was the primary purpose of our trip. We spent weeks looking for the perfect cabin and we found it.
Upon arrival, we were unable to go into private road due to the blockage by a construction truck. I asked the worker to move- did so promptly. The other adults with me questioned the Porto potty on the premises. This was later removed. The main cabin was just as described and met my expectations. The bunk house on the other hand was marginal. If you plan to use it, please ask for a pic- you may change mind. It is not to the same caliber as the main cabin. The main cabin is exceptionally filled with anything you may need for an extended stay. The only exception was the available wood for the fire pit. While there is "plenty of wood in the area"; we did not plan or intend to find, cut, and hall to the fire pit. Luckily we were able to purchase cut wood from available sellers about. I would suggest that the owner have listings of near by restaurants and the like in that we did not cook - nor did we have intentions to do so. Therefore, we spent an inordinate amount of time finding these. I would say this would be more aligned for a couple use rather than several adults (as was our situation). We did not use any of the cooking or cleaning appliances- had everything (microwave, oven, stove, washer, dryer, etc.). We did not use TV - the Wi-Fi needed to be reset- so if you do not know how to do this- it would be a problem. Also- cell phone reception was bad (we did not use phone in cabin). Considering the items we used and not used, it was not suited well for us. If I return (I may) with spouse, it may be a better fit- but the price would need to be reduced. Additional notes: Can hear traffic from rt. 15 very close by. Property was cleaned well and had linens, towels, etc.. The closest nearby gas station ( about 1 mile) had a good pizza and most amenities if needed
We came here to escape the city and the cabin was more than we ever could have dreamed. The pictures truly doesn't do the cabin justice. It was absolutely charming down to every nook. We spent 3 days there and didn't want to leave. The cabin has all the necessities that you need, just bring some food to cook. The hosts were amazing and responded to all emails within a couple of minutes. Can't wait to return!
great cabin and nice location, but it needs the following. The cabin needs a cleaning the walls are covered with dust, We had to change the furnace filter, because it was plugged with dust. The phone and internet didn't work and lights in the kitchen half worked. Outside the flower beds are full of weeds and the gas grill had a mouse nest in it.
Near to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, Finger Lakes wineries, Corning Glass Museum and charming town of Wellsboro with its gas lit streets. Within 1 hr of two ski resorts. Two lakes within 10 minutes drive for boating, fishing and swimming.
