|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Cedar Cliff is located on a dead-end road that runs along the Lake Superior shore. From the moment you walk through the doors of this incredible home, you will feel transformed.
The magnificent great room with a massive Carlton Peak fireplace has an antique dining room table that seats 12 and a drop-leaf English table that can seat 6 more. Two large screened-in porches flank this room and the windows that run its length have window seats for bird watching and reading or lake gazing. French doors in the middle open to the stairway that leads down to the water. The north shore is known for its craggy rocks and vistas and our shoreline offers a private experience of this magnificent place.
A fully-equipped kitchen has a six-burner, professional restaurant stove and connects to a charming breakfast nook and pantry. The six bedrooms are comfortably furnished with antiques, fine linens and local artwork. The bedrooms are set to the back of the house affording privacy and separation from group activities in the great room.
Cedar Cliff is a unique environment for your north shore vacation, combining old fashioned relaxation with modern amenities and many local attractions.
My name is Kathy and I have a boutique in Minneapols where we live. Doug is a musician and a software engineer. We have 5 children and 3 grandchildren . We enjoy being involved in the care and maintenence of Cedar Cliff and watching it bring such pleasure to its visitors.
The Owner purchased this house in 2002
Doug and I love the North Shore and wanted to share the magic with others and this was the perfect way to do it! We love the community and wanted to help support the local economy and bring more awareness of this incredible wilderness in our own back yard. We chose this large historic Craftsman because we love the quality and simplicity of the architecture and the ability to house large groups comfortably and most of all because we love the Lake! Being on a dead end road is a big plus and the location makes it easy to get to outdoor activies , shops and restaurants.
Cedar Cliff offers a truly unique North Shore experience. You have an entire house that was on the historic homes tour with an amazing Carlton Peak fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, organic coffee, tea and cocoa, wonderful bedding and quilts plus lots of character and lots of privacy.
We have hosted family reunions, yoga retreats, weddings, birthday celebrations, craft weekends, girlfriends weekends and workshops to name a few.
The Great Room is perfect for the group activities and the bedrooms are set to the back of the house for more peaceful quiet time. The two large screened porches give even more great relaxing lake time opportunities and you can even sleep out there on an air bed if you want!
We are a Green facility and use recycled and environmentally friendly products and high quality natural fibers in our linens, towels and rugs.
The biggest plus, of course, is the Lake. The feeling you get looking out over that vast expanse of water just has to be experienced.
Our book club had a grand time - great wine, chocolate, massages and book discussion of Ivan Doig's The Whistling Season. Lots of wind and waves along with shopping in Grand Marais made it a true "Superior Weekend".
The decor and ambiance of Cedar Cliff made our stay exquisite!
A perfect house for a weekend ski trip with family. We enjoyed every part of this place. The fire pit was used after an afternoon of walking the shoreline, the indoor fireplace kept the place cozy and the kids made smore's indoors! Enough beds and bathrooms for all 14 of us and the HUGE dining table allowed us all to eat together. Loved all the games and puzzles too. We would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates the details. We loved it. Can't wait to come back.
8 adults 6 grandsons and 1 yellow lab spent 5 nights here. There was plenty of beds/space for all 14 of us. The boys (5-11) loved the water even if it was cold, Fire pit last night where we enjoyed s'mores. The stairway to the lake was a bit narrow in steepness and probably not to code by todays standards. The pilot light on the stove went out twice but did get relit. We had several meals in but some out. My husband and I grew up vacationing in this area as did our daughters. It was so fun to share places with our sons-in-law and grandsons. Owner was helpful with many questions before and during our visit.
Class of 74 gals celebrated birthdays together by renting a home on Lake Superior. The Cedar Cliff Retreat was perfect for this occasion. Fully furnished and comfortable for our group of 9-we could have had more as home is big! Saturday after big breakfast we headed out to see the sights such as Temperance State Park & Gooseberry Falls. After a full day of exploring went back to grill burgers and eat some more! Huge table to play games and later in evening many of us headed down by the shore and used the fire pit. Also house has 2 porches that are screened to enjoy the outdoors but not worry about mosquitos.
Our family of 9 adults and 6 children loved this large and charming beautiful old home with spectacular views of Lake Superior. With plenty of space for privacy and separate bedrooms and beds we nestled in for a week of local adventure, relaxation and happy conversations in front of a roaring wood fireplace. We also loved the proximity to trail running on the Superior Hiking Trail! The fire-pit at the end of the long stairway to the Lake is a real plus. Generous amounts of wood were provided for both fireplace and fire-pit. The location near Lutsen is also a huge plus. We loved our frequent trips into Grand Marais. We hope to return!
Everything was so amazing with our stay at Cedar Cliff! We hosted our small wedding here and couldn't even imagine a better location. We got married in front of the fireplace with Max Bichel from Grand Marais playing songs my mom composed on the violin. We created so many memories up there, we would love to go back to spend more time in this charming retreat.
What an amazing place! I brought 10 students and 2 other adults here as part of a 3-week Writer's Workshop. Cedar Cliff couldn't have been a more perfect place for us. We had plenty of room to be together and also to spread out. Students wandered along the shore looking for that perfect place to settle down and write. Many of my students shared how just being so close to the lake was both refreshing and invigorating. The house itself was both cozy and spacious. Students played board games at in the breakfast nook and at the dining room table while others worked on a puzzle on the small drop leaf table in front of the fireplace. The kitchen was roomy enough for a cook and "helpers." I've raved about this place to my co-workers and family members. My plan is to find another reason to make my way back up to Cedar Cliff Retreat!
