Cedar Cliff is located on a dead-end road that runs along the Lake Superior shore. From the moment you walk through the doors of this incredible home, you will feel transformed.

The magnificent great room with a massive Carlton Peak fireplace has an antique dining room table that seats 12 and a drop-leaf English table that can seat 6 more. About The Owner

My name is Kathy and I have a boutique in Minneapols where we live. Doug is a musician and a software engineer. We have 5 children and 3 grandchildren . We enjoy being involved in the care and maintenence of Cedar Cliff and watching it bring such pleasure to its visitors.

The Owner purchased this house in 2002

Why The Owner chose Minnesota

Doug and I love the North Shore and wanted to share the magic with others and this was the perfect way to do it! We love the community and wanted to help support the local economy and bring more awareness of this incredible wilderness in our own back yard. We chose this large historic Craftsman because we love the quality and simplicity of the architecture and the ability to house large groups comfortably and most of all because we love the Lake! Being on a dead end road is a big plus and the location makes it easy to get to outdoor activies , shops and restaurants.

What makes this house unique

Cedar Cliff offers a truly unique North Shore experience. You have an entire house that was on the historic homes tour with an amazing Carlton Peak fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, organic coffee, tea and cocoa, wonderful bedding and quilts plus lots of character and lots of privacy.

We have hosted family reunions, yoga retreats, weddings, birthday celebrations, craft weekends, girlfriends weekends and workshops to name a few.

The Great Room is perfect for the group activities and the bedrooms are set to the back of the house for more peaceful quiet time. The two large screened porches give even more great relaxing lake time opportunities and you can even sleep out there on an air bed if you want!

We are a Green facility and use recycled and environmentally friendly products and high quality natural fibers in our linens, towels and rugs.

The biggest plus, of course, is the Lake. The feeling you get looking out over that vast expanse of water just has to be experienced.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our book club had a grand time - great wine, chocolate, massages and book discussion of Ivan Doig's The Whistling Season. Lots of wind and waves along with shopping in Grand Marais made it a true "Superior Weekend".

The decor and ambiance of Cedar Cliff made our stay exquisite!

Spacious historic charm on sunrise bedrock shoreline

  • 5 of 5

All the right historic treasures have been preserved in this charming and comfortable home. Old window latches, aged bronze light switch covers and enameled cast iron sinks were fascinating. The house was flanked with 2 spacious screen porches...one for sunrise and one for sunset. The shoreline drew you to it...plenty of flat bedrock to play on, a trickling stream cascaded down to a pebble beach, and a large fire pit area.

Craftsman Lake Superior Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

Cedar Cliff Retreat is a rare treasure. It is a breathtakingly beautiful Craftsman lodge with stunning features like the stone fireplace, vaulted Great Room and dining table for 18! The layout provides privacy if desired while allowing comfortable interaction without ever feeling crowded.

Two screened in porches provide a relaxing option for enjoying fresh air and the hypnotic sounds of waves lapping on the rocks below without fighting off flies or mosquito's. One porch has comfy chairs and a chase lounge which was great for reading, the other a lovely vintage iron/glass topped table and chairs for breakfast or any type of "talk around the table" gathering. Three spacious bathrooms and ample hot water allow for no bathroom back-ups or queuing in the mornings.

The kitchen was a dream come true! A professional grade gas stove with 6 cast iron burners, and ample cast iron pans to cook up a storm. We roasted a Turducken in the oven, and it came out perfect. A cozy breakfast nook, which could seat 6 comfortably, provided options for gathering with coffee, tea or plotting the day's adventure!

Down on the lake, a fire pit and benches gave yet another option for gathering and enjoying the spectacular views of Lake Superior close up. Evening hot dog and s'more roast was spectacular as the light faded, and shades of pink, purple and tangerine filled the lake sky.

Our stay was to celebrate a "late in life" marriage and honeymoon with extended family - from New Zealand - and friends. Cedar Cliff was the perfect place and we hope to repeat this experience again.

Intimate Wedding Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We cannot thank you enough for opening your beautiful cabin up to us and our family for our special weekend. We had 16 people stay with us at the cabin for the weekend and it was the perfect space. When we arrived at the cabin the first night I was in awe of how large and inviting it was. We could not have found a more perfect location to host our closest friends and family. Everyone enjoyed their time in the cabin. I will always remember rising early each day to be the first one up; sipping coffee, watching the waves on the lake from the bench seating and reflecting on what memories had been made.

Gorgeous home, worked well for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at this charming home. We came with a big group and it was a perfect setting for either being all together in the large spaces or finding little getaways to catch up with a smaller group.

  • 5 of 5

We had a birthday weekend here for my husband's 30th and this the the perfect spot! So beautiful right on the lake, great campfire, huge cabin with plenty of space for all 16 of us. Very close to the mountain for the skiers and boarders. Excellent.
