Isla Mujeres is a small, uncrowded, laid-back, serene tropical island of 13,000 residents located a mere 15 minutes by air conditioned ferry that runs every 30 minutes from Cancun. It is the perfect getaway for couples, families and reunions. It was originally a fishing village and still maintains that tradition. It is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of Cancun.
North Beach, with its clear turquoise water and pure white sand, makes it one of the prettiest beaches and best kept secrets in all of Mexico. Your condo, on the southern side of the island in Loma Isla Bonita (located on the first floor) is on the highest point of the island with a breathtaking view of the ocean. If you want peace and tranquility in a quiet retreat away from the noise of the town this is the spot.
From your living room you can enjoy a wonderful sunset and you are just steps away from the refreshing pool. You can also walk to Playa Lancheros (where you can get a barbecued fish feast on the beach) and Captain Dulche (beach club and bar/restaurant). With plenty of room to stretch out (125 square meters or 1350 square feet) you will never feel cramped.
Downtown Isla Mujeres is just a 10 minute cab ride away where there is a supermarket, bank, bars, restaurants, ferry dock, fishing boats, internet cafes, and souvenir shops. You can rent a car in Cancun and take it to the island on the car ferry. In Cancun you can shop for souvenirs at Market 28. There is a large Walmart type store called Chedraui nearby that has just about anything.
We have owned our condo since 2005 and are very proud of it.
Ronald Weihs purchased this condo in 2007
We love this island for it's tranquility and beauty. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax. It is so much nicer than Cancun yet only minutes away.
Snorkeling, fishing and swimming with the dolphins.
Plenty of space
Great view even from the living room
Building sits higher up hill so great cross breeze to keep cool and not use AC
On site manager and everyone we encountered were all very nice.
Pool area and palapa well kept and beautiful.
Got locked in first morning and had to use patio to get out. Rest of trip we could only lock the metal gate.
Says there are beach towels in the House Rules- which were kissed and found only by accident- but no beach towels to be found so we only had bath towels for pool.
Sleeps 8 but only 4 bath towels provided.
2 of the 3 DVD players broken. Notified on site manager first morning after arrival but weren't fixed or replaced whole week. Can't go out every evening with children and would have been nice to have the working players.
Windows very difficult to open and close.
Mattresses have far passed their use by date. By far some of the worst I've ever slept on.
Microwave is difficult to use. The longer time to use, the less power as it cuts in and out.
In general, all was pleasant but unimpressive at the condo unit. Has much potential but needs some $ spent to update.
One side note, average age was 60+. No families nor children to speak of. Not a negative; just something to keep in mind if you book here. More suited to an older crowd as is away from hustle and bustle of the island.
The location of this condo was perfect. Nice quiet neighbors. With the use of a golf cart accessibility is not a problem. The grounds are kept nice and clean.
VRBO could be a lot better on the mapping of this rental. Had us quite confused when we were arriving. The handy(?) map feature had it showing up south by about a mile. So when Ronald or Norma gives you directions, do as they say and disregard the VRBO map.
Pool was nice, could use some more loungers.
Wifi was pretty sketchy most of the time not sure if our timing was just bad or if this is a regular occurrence, pretty good selection of movies, excellent selection of music. Nice to wind down at the end of the day watching a movie. The water heater was a bit of a mystery. The upkeep of the unit could have been better, but for the price, it was a good deal.
We had some encounters with long skinny snakes on the balcony and near the pool, pretty sure they are not poisonous. Similar to Garter Snakes in Canada.
This condo is the perfect place to relax and unwind. For the third year in a row we have rented this condo for our two week vacation. We have stayed on Isla Mujeres at least 9 times, love the island and know that this is the perfect place for us. It is on the quiet end of the island but across the road from the beach. We enjoy walking and have walked everywhere on the island but we also rent a golf cart for those times we don't want to walk. It also has one of the nicest pool and palapa areas I have seen on the island. The distant view of the water and Cancun are wonderful to wake up to. There is a large selection of movies and music which we thoroughly enjoy. Any problems or issues we have are taken care of by the manager Jose Luis or some of the staff. We will be back!
This apartment is super clean and very quiet, exactly what I wanted. The fans keep everything cool as does the bedroom airconditioner. The kitchen is very well stocked with appliances: a juicer, etc. The pool is lovely and clean, the grounds are pretty. It was within walking distance of all the attractions at the south end of the island. Jose was fantastic and helped us with restaurants and taxis. You need a taxi to get to town, but once you get groceries you don't need to go there again. It's close to a number of places for lunch and about a 45 minute walk to Zoetry, which is great for dinner and exploring Mexican wines-- which are excellent!
I was clear when I booked with the owner that we needed a first floor condo due to difficulty with steps. We discovered that the condos are on a hill so the property walkways are all steps, the entry to the condo was more steps and there are several steps inside the condo. Luckily we had no accidents but it was a problem so I would not suggest this complex for the elderly or disabled. The rooms are a very comfortable size and you will find everything supplied as described except the beach towels. The condo is for sale and it seems not much has been done to update and replace things. For example, the teflon pans are old so my scrambled eggs came out black. The pool and palapa area was lovely and Mr. Acosta, the property manager, was wonderful. Onsite parking for our golfcart was great. Captain Dulche's beach club is across the street and it is a very quiet and safe area. The island has so many things to see and do it would be a shame to be in the condo much anyway. There is apartial view of the water and Cancun. If steps are not an issue and you were willing to update it a little, this would be a great investment particularly at the asking price.
We are a family of six and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the condo turned out to be. The pictures don't do it justice! We would have been happy to just stay there and live there! :) Besides the lovely layout, ceiling fans AND air conditioning, beautiful decor, outdoor patio, pool, and incredible view of the sea, we felt so private and safe! Although there seemed to be other inhabitants of the condos, we didn't see much of them! We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! The on-sight managers, Jose and Nellie, were so easily accessible and helpful. Norma, the owner, was kind and easy to work with.
We had access to wifi for free, inside and out on the patio by the pool, which we later found was quite a rarity. We were also able to flush toilet paper, which Americans are quite attached to! On other parts of the island, this is a no no...a hard adjustment :) The reasons I don't give it a 5 out of 5 are as follows: 1. There was some construction happening next door which caused quite a bit of noise. Naturally they want to develop this lovely place and this is outside of the control of the owners. When there weren't any workers, it was quite quiet 2. There is some standing water in the showers and I mentioned this to the owner so I imagine it will be taken care of 3. We also mentioned that it would be nice to have dish soap so that we are ready to roll upon arrival. We went to the grocery store to purchase some for under $1, so it wasn't a big deal. We also bought fruit there and made delicious smoothies in the blender provided in the fully equipped kitchen! So, not much! It's a great price for the value. Although it is on the opposite side as the beloved north beach, is very close to Garrafon Castilla Beach Club, where you can rent snorkeling gear for $8 and just dive right in! I highly recommend this, as it was one of my favorite activities, as well as the most economical. This is not to be confused with the much more expensive option, Garrafon National Park.
There is also a Women's Beading Coop not far from the condo where you can watch the women make amazing designs, and buy them at a fair price.
The condo is also on the same side of the island as the turtle and shark diving, which we didn't do...next time!
Beware, the taxis are more expensive than they are advertised on the Isla Mujeres website. Prepare to pay about $9 to cross the island, and $7 to go the the Centro (down town).
All around, this condo is a great choice!
Golf cart and moped rental, Mayan ruin tours, Swimming with dolphins, and swimming with a nurse shark.
