Bring the family and enjoy our Sandy Toes Cottage. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. In 2007 our family went suddenly from two kids to four. We are a busy family and found that by the time we got done packing we were already worn out and we hadn't even been any where yet! So we have furnished it with convenience for families in mind. The kids room has two bunk beds and sleeps 4. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom, with a memory foam mattress. A futon in the living room is available for extra guests as well. There are plenty of linens so you don’t need to pack extra blankets.

Westport is a fishing and ship building community that is quickly developing a reputation for great recreation as well. The beach is not at all crowded and sometimes even deserted if you get lucky. We have provided beach toys and chairs to share (because we were tired of packing them too!!!) We have provided things like a high chair and bed rail for the littlest visitors. We have a fully equipped kitchen including some extras like a bread machine and rice cooker. After a day at the beach the kids can play with all the toys, read a book or watch a movie while mom or dad makes dinner or takes in a movie as well.

The town of Westport has go karts, fun shops with nick knacks, fudge and salt water taffy, a fleet of charter boats ready to take you fishing or whale watching, and a historic lighthouse. All of this can be reached by biking or hiking down the paved dune trail just down the street from Sandy Toes.

About Rene Tobin

We are a busy family with 4 kids. It is so much work to vacation with 4 kids and pets that we really needed a place that we could go to relax. We live near the mountains and have family down in Westport so it seemed the perfect place to buy our own vacation rental and make it into our dream home away from home. We are so excited to share it with others.

Rene Tobin purchased this house in 2007

Why Rene Tobin chose Southwest Washington

Wonderful quiet vacation spot. We spend a lot of time there with relatives close by and we were not happy with the rental options we had. We wanted a place that was kid, pet and parent ready.

What makes this house unique

Everything we need to keep the kids happy and busy is already there. We keep the kitchen supplied with everything we need to prepare meals. It is ready for our dogs as well. It makes taking a vacation relaxing instead of work. We love our new hot tub!

Guestbook comments from the manager

My husband has been back from Iraq for 9 months and leaves for another year the end of this month. The Sandy Toes is our dream before the nightmare begins and it has been perfect! We found everything we needed-thanks! The cabin is cozy and clean and the hot tub is wonderful. My husband found me some wonderful sand dollars to take home and everytime I look at one this year I will remember this week and look forward to staying here when he comes back to us! - Jessica (mom), Marc (dad), Becca (8), Nate (7) and Kelani (Scotty dog).

The perfect family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at this place! It is set up perfectly for families, and there was so much stuff available at the house to entertain everyone. Westport is the perfect location to stay, and if you are feeling restless, there are plenty of places to see less than a couple of hours away. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to unwind with their kids and come back from a vacation actually feeling relaxed. (We all know how family vacations can be). The only thing I would note is to possibly bring bottled water, as it tasted a little off, but that didn't effect our experience. The owner was incredibly helpful and always yielded a quick response time. The kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of cooking utensils which saved us a ton of money on eating out. Thank you Rene and family for letting us stay at your awesome place, we hope to be back next year!

Great family retreat

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Sandy Toes! We had all the items we needed plus extras. The walk to the beach was easy and the beach was wonderful! My children enjoyed exploring the beach for treasures and playing with the toys that were provided. I would say that the toys needed a quick going through as some were broken or needing batteries but that did not in any way affect our stay. The town of Westport was a fun place to visit. Thank you Rene, for providing a fun beach house for our family to visit!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jennifer! I was thinking about the toys last time I was in Westport. There were guests in Sandy Toes so I could not go through them. I have someone that will do it for me soon. I am glad you had a great time! Rene

Nice house close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

The house was nice and plenty big enough for me,my daughter and three grandsons. Lots of movies and games for the kids. The kitchen had everything we needed. Towels for showering were provided. Laundry soap for the washer. Just a short walk to the beach or a short drive to the marina. Bennett's Fish and Chips is a great place to eat. The hot tub was a nice bonus. We had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend it.Thank you so much for sharing your place with us. Laurie

A week was not enough!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week right before Memorial Day. Initially we worried a week might be a little long for our 5 yo to be away from home but that was definitely not the case and we are already thinking about the next time we can stay at this cabin. We had so much fun exploring the nearby beaches, collecting special rocks and sand dollars each day, and spending lots of time in the hot tub. Our son loved sleeping in the top bunk bed, all the toys tucked away under the bed (lots of Legos!!), playing board games, and watching an occasional video. Our elderly dog appreciated the provided dog beds (home made with foam and a cloth cover) which we moved around the house so he could lay near us since the floors are tile. We took our shoes off at the door to reduce sand getting tracked everywhere but when it did we were able to easily sweep up the tile floor.

This cabin/house is in a neighborhood with people going about their daily lives, which I felt was a plus. We could hear kids playing happily nearby and met one neighbor who was friendly. The hot tub is fairly private except when you are getting in/out because you can see over the back fence and vice versa, though we saw no one. The yard is not fenced in the front or back but my husband use bikes creatively as baby/pet gates in the back yard to block off openings. The beach is about 2 blocks from door to ocean. The beach road says no cars but we parked there occasionally, as did others.

Things that weren't so great (since this is what I look for in reviews): While there were lots of bottles of shampoo/conditioner, there was not a single body soap in the house, so we purchased some and left it for future guests. There was also no sponge in the kitchen to clean dishes with (we purchased and left one) though there was some dish soap. The bikes were not in the greatest shape (one of the tires was brittle and bulging on the side, one bike couldn't get out of the gear it was in, etc.) but it was nice to have them available and we did ride them. My husband's super-nose detected a faint whiff of mildew smell in the bathroom and his super-eyes detected areas that weren't spotlessly clean (ex. dust on the top of the shower insert). I did not notice either and they didn't bother my husband, so unless you are super sensitive I can't imagine it would be a problem. None of these were even close to deal-breakers and we can't wait to come back! Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us!

Pleasant retreat..

  • 4 of 5

Most of my stay was just me and my pooch. My sister and niece shared the space with me for a couple nights. Found everything needed to a quiet, chill vacation. Although no children shared my stay there, this home was well appointed for folks with both children *and* pets. Thanks!

Cozy cottage, 10 minute walk to beach

  • 3 of 5

The house was spacious and had most everything we needed (only things I couldn't find where a paring knife and a colander, but I may have just missed them!) The kids loved the toys, games books and there were lots of VHS and DVDs if we had needed them. The house was about a 10-15 minute walk out to the actual beach (along the road w/ no sidewalks, like much of town, and then dunes, including a little steep cliff). Other amenities, like the hot tub and bicycles, we didn't use. I really liked that the whole house had tile floors, easy for sand cleanup. The owner was very kind and responded quickly to emails. For these elements I'd have rated the house 4-5 stars. However, the house was musty when we arrived so we had to open the windows for a few hours each day. The bathroom needs use some upgrades/deep cleaning/new caulk. The furniture in the living room was bordering on vintage, which I normally love, but every time I sat on the couch or the queen bed, I had an allergy attack. I had crazy allergies all 4 days except when we left the house. I really wanted to be positive in this review but if you have allergies might not be comfortable in the house.

Local area review (didn't affect my rating for the rental): The nearby beach was lovely and great for agates and stone and watching birds (we saw a juvenile eagle). The town of Westport is pretty small and pokey, basically a fishing village, most things were open 12-4 only some days per week. (I bet it's different during the summer, we stayed in April). There are a handful of places to eat and a few gift shops. We really liked Tinderbox Coffee and the grocery store was a good size and had everything we needed. It seems like the big things to do are either the beach (which can get really cold and windy), the dune trail (which doesn't have many sea views) and fishing charters. We had a fun time looking for sea lions and seals in the marina and on the big boardwalk that goes out past the marina (boardwalk like walkway, not like arcades-and-games boardwalk). The Maritime Museum had a lot of interesting stuff to look at but the lighthouse lamp building was closed for renovations. This was a decent if low-key place to stay for a couple of days, after the 3rd day we didn't have much to do since it was too cold for the beach, and Monday when most stores were closed. So, go fishing, walking or pack lots of layers! FYI, quite a few places online and on maps were actually closed for good.

Owner's Response: This review has had me very perplexed about the motivation for it, and frankly upset so I had to think about it a day or two. I don't think anyone has ever experienced the house as "musty" before. A few years back we had a new roof, and all new siding installed (it was built with faulty siding, we replaced before there was an issue) so I feel pretty confident that along with the newer double pane windows we are doing pretty good there. It is a beach house and it has been a wet year, the house is also very pet friendly and so if you do have allergies these points alone may make Sandy Toes not the best choice. But as beach houses go I really don't think we have a mold issue at all. That being said, I have had guests share with me that they have pet allergies and I have had my wonderful housekeeper and local manager team do a deep clean before the stay and this has helped. As you noted the elimination of carpet we did intentionally because we wanted to be as pet and family friendly as possible. Westport is a fishing and ship building community. It has 18 uninterrupted miles of sandy beach. It is also the best surfing in Washington State. It is quiet and even in the summer time I would not recommend it for excitement unless you come to one of the many special annual events that are planned, such a Pirate Days or the Kite Festival. I did buy brand new beds and there are allergy and moisture barriers on all of the mattresses. Other than that, I do not buy new furniture. A comfortable bed is really important to me when on vacation so I focused our resources there. Another key consideration for me is low stress so we put a great deal of effort and thought into all the extras that are there so guests do not need to bring anything but clothes and food. When we are on vacation with our 4 kids and dogs we do not want to stress about staining fancy furniture, so I do my best to find comfortable and practical pieces. We usually get lots of compliments about the housekeeping, but sometimes guests will let me know they found a dish that was not clean or something left in a drawer, Honestly it is a 2 bedroom house with tons of extras for guests to use. People leave stuff or have their teen do the dishes before they go. I really want to make a vacation relaxed and affordable for every family. If I had my housekeeper empty all the cupboards and drawers each stay it would significantly impact the cost. I am sorry, it sounds Sandy Toes is not for you.
