Welcome to our vacation home at the Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club (KKSRC) on the Kona/sunny-side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
We first visited Kona in 1999 and found the Surf & Racquet Club in 2003. We were hooked!
The oceanfront location is perfect! It's next to the ocean and a beach and less than ½ mile from Kahalu’u Beach Park and the Keauhou Shopping Center with it’s many stores and restaurants. (Kahalu'u Beach Park is also known as Turtle or Snorkel Beach.)
Kahalu’u Beach Park is our favorite snorkeling park in all of Hawaii. The fish and turtles are plentiful and there are bathrooms, parking, reasonably easy access in and out of this protected bay and visitors can rent beach or snorkel gear here, as well, if needed.
Our lovely townhouse has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Guests can choose to eat indoors at dining table or there's another table and chairs on our oceanfront lanai.
There are two TV's and wifi for indoor entertainment.
We also provide beach towels, cooler and there's usually a beach chair or two, an umbrella and a boogie board for guests to use.
The views when you enter this unit are breathtaking AND you get to enjoy those same views throughout the unit. The view from king/oceanfront bedroom upstairs is particularly stunning; you can watch and listen to the surf from the king bed and spot the yellow tang and turtles frolicking in the blue, aquamarine surf.
During the late spring and summer months you can even watch the sunsets from the bedroom – they’re straight out for your viewing pleasure.
Our décor is very simple and allows guests to easily move in and call the place their own. Most of the art work is from local artists and reflects the tropical beauty that is found throughout Hawaii. Travertine floors throughout keep feet clean and cool.
And, it’s easy to enjoy your own private back yard in this lovely end-unit with grass surrounding three sides. Also, there’s lush greenery between the yard and ocean so that children are protected by this natural barrier. Still, if you want to go down to the beach it’s a simple two minute walk to access path around neighboring building.
There are three sacred heiaus on our 15 + acre tropically landscaped property; several on and around beach and during low tide you can even find petroglyphs on the exposed rocks between tide pools. The property inland from beach and next to us is actually being transitioned into a cultural center park because of the richness of history in this area.
In the winter we enjoy additional sightings of the humpback whales and even witnessed an ever-so-rare-to-see birthing in March, 2015. Spinner dolphins can be seen along the coastline nearly every day and kayakers, tour boats and outrigger canoes paddle by pretty routinely.
And, whenever you feel more adventuresome it’s easy to get into the car and drive to hundreds of other lovely places on this big beautiful island. There’s world class beaches, boogie boarding and snorkeling, an active volcano, tropical rainforests, Kona coffee plantations, historic and sacred places and more. We’re still exploring this lovely place almost 20 years after our first visit.
The complex has a delightful swimming pool which is suitable for young and old alike. There’s 1-3 feet depths at shallow end of pool and then lengthwise it goes from 4 to 8 feet so you can easily get in some laps or just playfully float around.
If you like to play tennis then this is the place for you. Our recently resurfaced and lighted tennis courts are free for our guests and we even supply a few racquets. There’s a pro available if you want to schedule a lesson or two as well.
All in all – if you’re looking for a wonderful place in paradise – this is it!

I love to travel and I love Kona! I also enjoy working with people and helping them to explore and discover this magical big island and have the best visit possible. I feel strongly that if I can't do it right - I simply shouldn't do it. My lovely housekeeper/property manager, Jeri, feels the same way. We're a dynamite team!
Sandy purchased this townhome in 2008
I fell in love with the Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club in 2003, returning in 2005 and purchasing our first townhouse in 2006. I networked with the owner of this (2nd) unit for 2 years prior to experiencing the good fortune of having the opportunity to purchase it. It's a gorgeous and exceptional unit (much like our first). It's less than 30 feet to the surf, it's an end unit surrounded by grass, shrubs AND, best of all, it's got oceanfront views from EVERYWHERE in the unit except one bedroom and one bathroom. The view from the master bedroom is better than any other unit I've ever stayed in!! Also, parking is 20 feet from front door, there's a beach with turtles outside your back door and an ancient heiau on the beach!! An exceptional find anywhere and a delight to share with guests!
Multiple times each and every day I look out the window/s and thank my lucky stars for being so blessed. It's a wonderful place.
This is an end unit; it has a delightful grassy back yard that is really just yours when you're there - a beach that you can be walking on within two minutes OR a wonderful pool two minutes the other direction. The unit is furnished simply so you can make it your own when you're there - no do-dads, etc...but everything you need to enjoy a home away from home is at your fingertips. We love our home away from home and do everything we can to make sure YOU do, too. And, we've been exceptionally lucky to enjoy guests that visit repeatedly and guests that just appreciate our property and take good care of it in our stead. We'd love to share it with you so you can feel the magic of this wonderful place. Aloha!

This townhouse was perfect for our family of five (2 adults, 3 teenage children). We felt immediately at home in this clean, well furnished and well equipped condo. The unit is bright and cheery, flooded with natural light, ocean breezes and the sound of the surf. So much so that we felt more in touch with the Hawaiian environment than in any other place we stayed on our two week trip to the islands. It's almost like we were spending our time outdoors, but without the hassles of camping. Maybe this was enhanced by the fact that we watched sea turtles feeding and a monk seal sunbathing from the master bedroom window. Booking and accessing the condo couldn't have been easier - Sandy is a gracious host. My highest recommendations for this unit. It exceeded our expectations. Thanks Sandy!
Stayed June 2014, traveled with family - FIVE STARS!!
Value - Location - Sleep Quality - Cleanliness - Service
Friendly people - super clean - just perfect!
We spent 10 days here last June. The view is exactly as advertised. We came to celebrate my 40th birthday and if you have to turn 40, you should at least wake up to this view. :)
Everything we needed was provided and the property owner and manager were very responsive.
We enjoyed driving around the island and taking in all of its varied climates and scenery so the location was perfect for us. There is not much within walking distance if you are looking for that.
The only reason I gave the condo 4 stars was because it doesn't have AC. While we were there it was pretty hot in Kona and the winds were coming out of another direction so we weren't getting a breeze even with the windows open. It was difficult sleeping for the first several nights but luckily the winds changed and it was much more comfortable.
We just completed our 12-day vacation at Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club unit 196 and cannot say enough positive things about the complex and the unit.
We chose Unit 196 because it was oceanfront and very close to the little "beach" cove for the complex. From our unit we could see tropical fish and turtles in the ocean, views of Big island and Maui (if it was really clear), and gorgeous sunsets. Our family loved having quick and easy access to the little cove for amazing tide pool explorations and wading for our younger kids. Reasonably good swimmers can also snorkel from the cove, which was mostly empty and therefore had incredible sea life. After walking around the complex we noted that many of the units do not have easy access to this cove, which makes this townhouse especially compelling. The unit itself was spacious, with a very well-stocked kitchen, linens, beach toys, and thoughtful touches like Kona coffee and Maui Cookies, upon arrival. Unlike many vacation condos, you don't have to buy every last item for your stay - Sandy and Jeri provide you with items such as trash bags, paper towels, cooking spices, oils, condiments, etc. We also greatly appreciated the large floor fans in the afternoon heat. The complex is large and well maintained, and we enjoyed the many BBQs, pool, tennis courts, volleyball court, and clubhouse. If you have very young kids, the pool has a large section that is 1-foot deep, perfect for toddlers. Jeri, the on-island property coordinator, is an amazing wealth of island information and extremely friendly and helpful.
Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is about a 3-minute drive (5-minute bike and 7-minute walk) to the best snorkeling cove in Kona. If you take the oceanfront road, it will take about 10 minutes to reach the hustle and bustle of "downtown" Kona. The shopping center is 1-block away with a grocery store, drug store, restaurants, post office, movie theater, coffee place, gas station, and the necessities you need absent an ABC store! About 7-minutes up the hill you will be in the cooler climate of coffee plantations. We appreciated being just outside the super touristy section but still central to the areas we wanted to visit.
Our family agreed that our next visit to the Big Island we will return to Unit 196. We cannot speak highly enough of Sandy (the owner) and Jeri (the on-island coordinator), both of whom were a pleasure to work with. Aloha!
This waterside townhouse was a joy to spend 4 days in. The water is so close I almost wished the waves had a volume control. The owner is very considerate and provides lots of guidance for your stay, both in terms of rental use and local attractions. It was a great experience.
We arrived at this unit just in time to witness a beautiful sunset from the lanai. This property is oceanfront, and the view is awesome. The ocean is just a few feet from the lanai. We could have just stayed and listened to the surf.
Everything in the unit is clean and comfortable. Sandy has done a marvelous job of making it feel like home. It is located in a perfect spot to enjoy the Kona coast away from the hustle and bustle. We were only there for 3 nights, but we filled our time with fun sites. Bubba Gump is a must. We also had breakfast at The Coffee Shack on our way to Puuhonua o'Honaunau, the Place of Refuge, snorkeled at Two-Step, explored the Manta Ray exhibit at Sheraton Kona. Next time we will plan a longer stay. There just wasn't enough time to do everything we wanted to do.
I loved our stay at unit 196. The booking went smooth and we got a lot of useful information from the owner. The apartment was clean and very nicely decorated, just as the pictures showed. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed and the Wi-Fi worked fine.
I loved how close we were to the ocean and the view from the bed was fantastic. Please note that it can be a bit noisy, the ocean gets quite loud and when the weather is warm one need to sleep with the windows open. Still the ocean was my favorite feature.
It was to rough to swim or snorkel from the beach, but it was nice to walk there and we had a Scotsman playing his bagpipe there every morning. We even saw a Monk Seal rest there for two days but no turtles.
We never used the tennis courts but the pool was nice and the pool area was well maintained.
The nearby Kahaluu Beach Park was perfect for snorkling, we went there early in the morning and it wasn't crowded at all. We finally got to see the sea turtles and a lot of different fishes.
I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone and would not hesitate to stay there again myself!
