Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Welcome! Come stay with us at our charming cabin and enjoy some good old Southern Appalachian hospitality. Situated on two private acres north of Asheville and less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville.

As its largest city, along with its central location in the southern Appalachian mountains, Asheville has become the nerve center of the area simply known as 'WNC' (Western North Carolina). Set in the beautiful French Broad Valley, which flows northwest to the Mississippi basin, Asheville is surrounded by the highest mountains in eastern America, some of the oldest in the world.

The temperate climate enjoys four distinct seasons, with comfortable summers, mild winters, early spring and panoramic fall colors. The geographic features, combined with the climate, allows the area an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking to fishing to skiing and golf. A vibrant downtown Asheville offers a cultural diversity hard to find anywhere else in the US. Asheville attracts internationally known artists and is home to artists of world renown in every genre. Shops, antiques, artist's studios and restaurants, from local grills to fine dining, are all a part of what makes Asheville unique.

So...just here for a few days or for a little while longer? Remember, a whole lot of nothing to do is fine and relaxing too! Almost anything you would want to do is here or nearby (ok, there's no ocean, check out VRBO for that, y'know?). Situated between the Smokies and the Blue Ridge, Asheville makes a great home base. From Boone to Brasstown, Mt. Pisgah to Mt. Mitchell, you can get there from Abner's Cabin.

Come stay with us and see why we think our southern mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the country to visit.

About Leslie Osborne

Moving to the Western NC Mountains from Charlotte NC back in 1990 was a new venture for my family. Having lived in the area and falling in love with it, lends me to call Asheville my home. Being in sales, I get to see so many beautiful properties in the greater Asheville area and I am grateful to have an older cabin to offer folks to rent that is reminescent of the cabins I stayed in during my youth at summer camps across Western North Carolina.

Leslie Osborne purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Leslie Osborne chose North Carolina

Abner Gwaltney built the cabin in 1928 for his wife and children. Since then, the cabin has passed through several generations of families until my parents purchased the home as their summer getaway from the heat of the lowlands of NC. I purchased the cabin in 2004 when my parents decided they could no longer make the trip to Asheville. By that time, I had moved to Asheville and decided to keep the cabin available for family memebers to use. In 2008 I decided to open the cabin to the public because of its great location to downtown Asheville.

What makes this cabin unique

Accessabilty is the greatest asset. Privacy and the rural setting that lends to a quiet and peaceful stay. Please read the reviews!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again we have had a wonderful time. Last time, were here in the fall, and enjoyed the cool air and beautiful fall foliage. And this time when we drove up, we saw your lovely hostas and lacy blue hydrangea. They were so vibrant and natural. Thanks once again for letting us enjoy the area by staying at Abner's Cabin. It very much makes us feel at home. We are branching out more and more to explore the area every time we come. P.S. we loved watching the wild turkeys and their babies from the front porch.

Perfect location!! Clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

First let me say that we're not the type of couple that would write a review if the property was decent or average. We would just bite our tongues and chalk it up to a dud, but this was VERY COOL! Our family was camping 1.7 miles away at the Campfire Lodgings, so the commute back and fourth to their campsite was a breeze. Matter-of-fact, we liked the cabin so much we brought over the family to check the place out and maybe make them envious of our accommodations. (I think we got the better end of the deal). We're super sensitive to cleanliness and smell. The rental property didn't disappoint. Saw some Turkeys and some Deer. Was Great! Thanks!!

We had a wonderful stay at Abner's cabin. The setting and cabin are beautiful and private. The cabin was clean and well stocked with neccesities. It was also nice for our dog to come with us!

Great little cabin. Cozy and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved the cabin and the scenery. Saw 2 deers in the driveway when I went for an early morning walk. Loved sitting on the porch in the evenings with my husband having cocktails. Wished for snow and got more than we bargained for. It was beautiful and adventurous. We will definitely come back. The owner was very gracious and accommodating. Thank you Leslie.

Cute cabin for a weekend in Asheville

  • 4 of 5

We came to Abner's Cabin for a quick weekend getaway with another couple. It was the perfect size for 2 couples and 2 dogs (if you're comfortable sharing a bathroom). Beautiful views, and had everything we needed. Neighbors are close by, which wasn't really known prior to arriving. It was also about a 10 minute drive to downtown Asheville and we were able to Uber it back and forth as needed. Overall we had a great time.

Cabin is older but clean and sufficient. Quiet area with nice view. Enjoyed sitting around the fire pit. Very close to activities around Asheville:downtown & Biltmore.

Beautiful location, mountains and deer, horses and owls at night.

  • 4 of 5

If you have ever seen the Chevy Chase movie Funny Farm, you can appreciate this phrase: "CUE THE DEER." We weren't at Abners cabin 1 hour and 2 beautiful young bucks came out of the woods just as if it was to impress us. Well it did. I would love to give this trip to Abners Cabin a 5 star except when I go on vacations as nice as this, I hope to have peace and quiet time in the early morning. 2 out of 3 of the mornings a neighbor cut big trees down with chain saws then the next morning here came the wood chippers. Not what I hoped to hear. Birds ....yes noises like that....no. The cabin was furnished nicely and located 12 minutes from downtown Asheville. The view of the mountains too were nice.
