Overview

Woodfin Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Welcome! Come stay with us at our charming cabin and enjoy some good old Southern Appalachian hospitality. Situated on two private acres north of Asheville and less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville.

As its largest city, along with its central location in the southern Appalachian mountains, Asheville has become the nerve center of the area simply known as 'WNC' (Western North Carolina). Set in the beautiful French Broad Valley, which flows northwest to the Mississippi basin, Asheville is surrounded by the highest mountains in eastern America, some of the oldest in the world.

The temperate climate enjoys four distinct seasons, with comfortable summers, mild winters, early spring and panoramic fall colors. The geographic features, combined with the climate, allows the area an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking to fishing to skiing and golf. A vibrant downtown Asheville offers a cultural diversity hard to find anywhere else in the US. Asheville attracts internationally known artists and is home to artists of world renown in every genre. Shops, antiques, artist's studios and restaurants, from local grills to fine dining, are all a part of what makes Asheville unique.

So...just here for a few days or for a little while longer? Remember, a whole lot of nothing to do is fine and relaxing too! Almost anything you would want to do is here or nearby (ok, there's no ocean, check out VRBO for that, y'know?). Situated between the Smokies and the Blue Ridge, Asheville makes a great home base. From Boone to Brasstown, Mt. Pisgah to Mt. Mitchell, you can get there from Abner's Cabin.

Come stay with us and see why we think our southern mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the country to visit.

About Leslie Osborne

Moving to the Western NC Mountains from Charlotte NC back in 1990 was a new venture for my family. Having lived in the area and falling in love with it, lends me to call Asheville my home. Being in sales, I get to see so many beautiful properties in the greater Asheville area and I am grateful to have an older cabin to offer folks to rent that is reminescent of the cabins I stayed in during my youth at summer camps across Western North Carolina.

Leslie Osborne purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Leslie Osborne chose North Carolina

Abner Gwaltney built the cabin in 1928 for his wife and children. Since then, the cabin has passed through several generations of families until my parents purchased the home as their summer getaway from the heat of the lowlands of NC. I purchased the cabin in 2004 when my parents decided they could no longer make the trip to Asheville. By that time, I had moved to Asheville and decided to keep the cabin available for family memebers to use. In 2008 I decided to open the cabin to the public because of its great location to downtown Asheville.

What makes this cabin unique

Accessabilty is the greatest asset. Privacy and the rural setting that lends to a quiet and peaceful stay. Please read the reviews!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again we have had a wonderful time. Last time, were here in the fall, and enjoyed the cool air and beautiful fall foliage. And this time when we drove up, we saw your lovely hostas and lacy blue hydrangea. They were so vibrant and natural. Thanks once again for letting us enjoy the area by staying at Abner's Cabin. It very much makes us feel at home. We are branching out more and more to explore the area every time we come. P.S. we loved watching the wild turkeys and their babies from the front porch.

Beautiful location, mountains and deer, horses and owls at night.

If you have ever seen the Chevy Chase movie Funny Farm, you can appreciate this phrase: "CUE THE DEER." We weren't at Abners cabin 1 hour and 2 beautiful young bucks came out of the woods just as if it was to impress us. Well it did. I would love to give this trip to Abners Cabin a 5 star except when I go on vacations as nice as this, I hope to have peace and quiet time in the early morning. 2 out of 3 of the mornings a neighbor cut big trees down with chain saws then the next morning here came the wood chippers. Not what I hoped to hear. Birds ....yes noises like that....no. The cabin was furnished nicely and located 12 minutes from downtown Asheville. The view of the mountains too were nice.

Not what it seems

  • 1 of 5

The somewhat secluded area was a plus but the house is not what it seems. It's good for maybe two or three guys touring Asheville or mountain adventures, that's it. The washer and dryer didn't work, we hand washed clothes, there were ants everywhere when we got there all over the counters and fridge. Floor was peeling up in laundry room, water pipes running along walls. It just wasn't what the pictures made it out to be. It would be a terrible place to take a family too or a girlfriend/wife. I don't believe they would find it very pleasant. While we were at the house we spent most of our time on the spacious back deck which is actually very nice, it looks to be pretty new. Overall it was very mediocre.

Nice rustic cabin not far from downtown

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was very nice. We brought our small dog, and she whined a bit when we left her during the day, but the isolated nature of this cabin made it all work out great. The view from the back deck is quite nice and the fire pit in the front yard is a nice extra. The cabin, while rustic, had a very strong air conditioner, which was very nice in mid-July! The beds are comfortable, and we did not feel crowded, even when we had four people in the cabin at the start of the week. As you might expect, there was the occasional bug in the house, but it was not bad. It is about 15 minutes to downtown Asheville, and there are also nice restaurants in Weaverville (the Stony Knob cafe was quite good).

Amazing views! Great property.

We had a great time at this cabin for the week. My daughters loved being outside and we all enjoyed the home. The views from the back are truly amazing. Very accommodating and helpful with any questions we had. Will definitely be back.
