Casa Pacifica is a luxury beach house offering a prime location 200 yards from one of best beaches in Costa Rica. The house is on a large private property just steps from two incredible beaches (Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo) and you are walking distance to the towns of Samara and Carrillo for a real taste of real Costa Rican culture. This is a perfect place for an active family vacation or just a relaxing, casual getaway. Samara Beach (200 yards from our door) is widely recognized as one of the safest and most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.

This four-bedroom home has two masters and a great living area which opens up to the kitchen and a large covered terrace overlooking the pool. The pool is surrounded by a lush garden, and you can expect to be visited by monkeys, iguanas, land-crabs, red-tailed squirrels and scores of other lizards and birds. Samara Beach is known to be one of the safest swimming beaches on the west coast of Costa Rica but is also great for surfing too.

There is also another smaller house on the same property, Casita Pacifica. If you want a total of 6 bedrooms you can ask about renting both houses for your stay. Otherwise, both houses have their own entrance, driveway, terrace and parking and the pool and backyard are completely private to the main house.

Boats can pick you up right at the beach (200 yards up the road) for world-class sport-fishing, turtle & dolphin tours or just a tour of the beautiful coastline. Included with the house are two kayaks so that you can tour the safe waters or go visit Isla Chola and have and entire island to yourself. You can learn to surf in Samara and catch intermediate waves, and you are only 15 miles away from some of the top surfing breaks in the world.

This is definitely one of the finest rentals in Samara. Our staff is around daily to ensure you have an amazing vacation. Wall-to-wall tile, luxury linens, thick towels & large walk-in showers await you and housekeeping and security is included - all you have to do is enjoy yourself.

About Paul

We are Canadians living in North Carolina with a rental property in Costa Rica. We have 3 great, active and young children and like to spend as much time each year on our property as possible. We hope to someday retire to Costa Rica, but have a long way to go.

Paul purchased this house in 2007

Why Paul chose Guanacaste

We choose Guanacaste on the advice of many Tico's we have met - since it's techically dry forest, it offers many more months of lower humidity, less rain and less bugs - but it still has a great tropical climate. After touring all over Guanacaste, we chose Samara because it's the best family destination. The beach there is protected by the reef and is one of the safest swimming beaches on the West Coast & the town is just big enough to offer everything you need. It also is 'locally grown', made up of a bunch of independently owned hotels and restaurants (no chains at all). It has all the same sights and tours that the larger beach towns offer (arguably the best beach around) - but without the crowds and party element.

What makes this house unique

Our property is on the far end of Samara Beach from the town of Samara. The property offers a lot of privacy, a lot of nature and guests often have most of the beach to themselves. It's close enough to Samara to be convenient to stores, restaurants and bars - but far enough from town to enjoy the mornings and evenings with just the sounds of nature around you. The house definitely one of the finest rentals in the area and our staff is fantastic.

What a great home

  • 5 of 5

Three couples stayed in the home last week. We had a great time. The beds are super comfortable, everything was really clean and had pretty much everything we needed.

The housekeeper, Roxy, was super sweet and it was so nice to have someone make our beds for us. We didn't expect it, but it was nice none the less. Originally we didn't invest in the air conditioner for the larger part of the house, but decided the second day in it was worth it. The bedrooms were quite comfortable and when we discovered one of the rooms was not working, they came out right away to fix it.

There is not a lot to do in Samara, so we spent most of our time hanging by the pool and walking to the beach to see the beautiful sunset. Because we were a large group, we did not take advantage of the kayaks in the garage, but would have it if had been just two of us.

I can't think of a thing to improve on here. Since we are kind of new to renting VBRO's, we should have stocked up on some basics (toilet paper) for our stay, but managed to not have a problem with what was provided until we could get to the store.

This is a great home. Paul was really quick on replying as was his property management team. I highly recommend a relaxing week at this beautiful home.

What a great home for large family/friend gatherings!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the home for more than a month, and each week had a different group of family or friends come in to visit. The adjacent casita was great for the two weeks we needed the extra room (yes there were many of us) and the house is perfect for children too. Even when the casita was rented to strangers, we had more than enough privacy - - it is a nice set up. We cook frequently so the large kitchen and table were a bonus. It is a long walk into town, but the bus system is easy to figure out (even easier with the excellent help of Roxie the friendly and competent housekeeper) OR a 3 colones (about $6) cab ride is a also great (we had good luck with father/son Eduardo Taxi). Even better is a quick walk to Carrillo beach. Enough room for private reading or games. Fresh picked grapefruit a real bonus. Can't tell you how much we enjoyed the pool. We've stayed for long stints in Samara for several years now and needed to change rental houses and SO GLAD we did! Great place for gathering of families.

We spent five weeks in this amazing home. Everything was perfect. Rosie, housekeeper was excellent and a joy to get to know. It is a long walk into town. But it was nice to be close to Samara and Carrillo beaches. It is also very quiet. The swimming pool was amazing. We did learn how to take the local bus and found a grocery store that delivered. Paul purchased two bikes which we used often. Both Paul and Mellisa (samararentals) responded to our questions promptly. Loved it so much we rented for a month again next year.

Beautiful house and property

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from 10 days at the gorgeous property! With the smaller house we were able to easily accommodate 3 families.

Some highlights:

-The fresh grapefruit that was ripe in the trees out front. We enjoyed every morning (and nights in cocktails)

-The resident iguanas that roamed the property delighted the children

-The Howler monkey’s made an appearance about every second day. In our most memorable encounter one was about 6 feet from us in a tree. This was extra special in that most of the people staying on the beach proper were not treated to the monkey’s like we were

-The pool was amazing to beat the heat and shaded over around 2:30. the shallow area was very shallow and great for kids

-The outside seating area with the fans kept any bugs away and was amazing at night (we had worried about mosquitos, but there were barely any. Any bites were from ants or black-fly-like bugs)

-We had a chef come in 5 of the night (Chef David Boyejo) which was a luxurious treat

-Kayaking to the island (hard work though!)

-A dinner at the Montelugana hotel (short walk away)

-Wingnuts ziplining

-All our transports and tours were on time – it was impressive!

- We brought our own portable hammock and put it in the gazebo - it was fantastic (and nice to be closer to the pool)

- Ample towels - was awesome

Some things to keep in mind:

- Do not underestimate the sunscreen you will need. The sun was HOT and STRONG.

- The property was very private, but was not secluded. There is a small hotel on one side and a power station/cell tower on the other. This did not detract in any way from our experience, but may not come through in pictures

-Some people have said the property was “weathered”, but we found it was normal wear and tear(and Samara Rentals was very responsive when something went wrong, e.g., propane ran out for BBQ)

-We were told by a local guide to be careful of stingrays in the water at the beach entrance closest to the house, as they gather near the reef. He told us to shuffle our feet as we walk in the water. We did that, but also chose to settle and swim a bit further down the beach

- The house is not close to a grocery store. Strongly recommend picking up as much as you can in the transport from the airport (perhaps in Nicoya), and freezing meat as it seemed to spoil quickly. The cab to town is 6$, but they weren't always available when we called

- Bring pool floats if you can and sand toys for the kids (a bucket and shovel sufficed)

Pura vida!

  • 4 of 5

Five members of my family also stayed at this house on November the 19th through the 23rd. We decided to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn for a few nights in hopes of getting out of Liberia before Hurricane Otto came through. The grounds are beautiful. The pool is amazing. Its a very short walk to Samara beach and Carillo beach. Its like having 2 beaches all to yourself! You can focus on the beauty instead of the crowds :-) The house does have some wear and tear but it is beautiful and met all of our needs. The beds are comfy, plenty of supplies in the kitchen, regular size washer and dryer, huge deck area with lots of chairs next to the pool. There is a small Inn and restaurant a few doors down toward Samara beach. They have really good food and cold beverages.

Melissa, at Samara Rentals, was very sweet and took care of our needs when called. Paul, the owner, is also very nice and prompt.

Thanks for an awesome trip to Samara. We would love to come back to that little piece of heaven in Samara in the future. Pura Vida!

nice house

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this house Nov 19-23. It's a nice big house with a great pool and lots of room. We had a party of 8. It's a short walk to the beach and Carillo beach. The only thing I would suggest is the kitchen and stove and dishes were a little dirty and were in need of a "deep clean". You could tell it's been used a ton. Other wise, it's a great place and the people and the trip were great!! We are already talking about coming back to this place in 2018.
