We are Canadians living in North Carolina with a rental property in Costa Rica. We have 3 great, active and young children and like to spend as much time each year on our property as possible. We hope to someday retire to Costa Rica, but have a long way to go.
Paul purchased this House in 2007
Why Paul chose Sámara
We choose Guanacaste on the advice of many Tico's we have met - since it's technically dry forest, it offers many more months of lower humidity, less rain and less bugs - but it still has a great tropical climate. After touring all over Guanacaste, we chose Samara because it's the best family destination. The beach there is protected by the reef and is one of the safest swimming beaches on the West Coast & the town is just big enough to offer everything you need. It also is 'locally grown', made up of a bunch of independently owned hotels and restaurants (no chains at all). It has all the same sights and tours that the larger beach towns offer (arguably the best beach around) - but without the crowds and party element.
What makes this House unique
Our property is on the far end of Samara Beach from the town of Samara - right between the beached of Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo. The property offers a lot of privacy, a lot of nature and guests often have the beach to themselves. It's close enough to Samara to be convenient to stores, restaurants and bars - but far enough from town to enjoy the mornings and evenings with just the sounds of nature around you. The house definitely one of the finest rentals in the area and our staff is fantastic.

We had an amazing family vacation at this beautiful home in Samara, Costa Rica! There were 6 adults and 5 children, enough space for everyone and the property was beautiful. I read all the reviews before booking and I found them to be very accurate of our experience. The pool was warm and clean, we would have loved some pool toys for the children however it did not stop us from spending a lot of our time in it. We spent a lot of time at the house cooking and just hanging out, they had plenty of cookware and utensils for large groups. We loved the fact that they had a playpen, a highchair and kids toys for the little kids. Overall the house is amazing and we would absolutely book this place again and again. One of the best things about our trip though was a man named Bernie who came recommended by the property owner. Our trip was made extra special because of this wonderful man. He made our Costa Rica trip feel so authentic and was our personal tour guide for our entire 8 day trip.
Thanks Victoria - I will make sure we get some pool toys down to the house on my next visit. We are glad you enjoyed your stay!
Awesome family location—peaceful, relaxing
I don’t even know where to begin. Perfection! We would go back in a heartbeat. Felt like home the minute we walked in. Paul, the owner, and Melissa, the property manager, are wonderful to work with and promptly answer any questions. Melissa recommended Maria, BlueZone Costa Rica, as the person to book activities for us, and she was the very best! Don’t go to Samara without her help. She arranged for our transportation to/from the airport, massages at the house, whitewater rafting (they even transported us 2 hours away), ziplining, Let’s Get Local (our favorite activity as we were picked up and taken to a local waterfall where we enjoyed water time/fresh fruit snack and then on to a coffee plantation and authentic Costa Rican meal in their home), and a dolphin watching/snorkeling excursion.
We had a group of 10 (1 month old baby, 2, 3, and 14 year old kids, plus 6 adults so we were quite the handful to transport anywhere but Maria got us comfortably to each and every location. Our drivers were so knowledgeable and helpful, too, and very punctual.
When we were at home, the pool was the very best! So clean and inviting! We ate our meals at home for the most part...kitchen/dining area is perfect for that. As others have said...very well-equipped kitchen. We loved the fact that we were out in the country yet a short walk to two different beaches. Carrillo is fantastic...loved the waves and sand! Samara was so quiet and easy to get to...kayaked to Isla Chorta from there. We had a fantastic meal right next door at The Hideaway...and the ice cream hit the spot, too. For pizza and burgers one of our drivers recommended a little tiki-looking place in Carrillo along the beach...loved it!!! We had both pizza and burgers there and they were delish. The little grocery store about a block beyond it was a great place to restock, too.
We asked Melissa if we could use the washer/dryer because of the little ones...not a problem just no sand. We also paid $20/day to run the A/C in the main part of the house to keep everyone comfortable. Bedrooms were fine. So nice to have Rosie come weekdays to clean.
If you haven’t booked Casa Pacifica yet, I don’t know why you are waiting. It truly is a gem!!!
Great homemade for large family group
My family greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pacifica. The kids loved spending time in the pool and the adults enjoyed lounging on the patio. The short walk to this beautiful stretch of the beach was very was convenient.
The large kitchen, dining room and living room comfortably fit our large group. Downtown Samará was easy to access and so was Carillo Beach. Great launching point for CR adventures!
Great Time in Casa Pacifico
Very enjoyable trip to CR, the house was perfect for the number of people in my group. The first and second day was a learning experience which could have been a lot easier if the Property Manager has spend a little time explaining a few things. The remainder days were great, the last day was a disappointment as we could not sit by the pool due to the lawn maintenance people working all day. I thought this should have been done prior to our arrival as it was a bit overgrown when we arrived. The property owners were a delight to meet. They continue to ensure the items in the house are in good shape when they are on site otherwise it is up to the PM to ensure all is well at the property.
Recommend this place if you are going to CR as it is close enough to town, beaches and restaurants with some wildlife close by (monkies, racoons, squirrels, and birds). :-)
Amazing! The property, location, and experience all exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this property to all. I even took my small children and the property allowed them to have a terrific vacation.
The property was beautiful. The location was perfect. We were able to walk to the beach or drive a short distance to town. The lights and pump for the pool quit working but the manager responded quickly and let us know they had parts ordered. We were still able to use the pool though. Rosie, the housekeeper, made our stay extra special. She is an angel.
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! The pool electrical issue is all fixed now, we get any issues fixed as fast as possible (thanks for your patience, it’s not always easy in a beach town away from the big city). Hope to have you back again!
