It is said...."There's something lyrical about cottages"
"Cottages ring true to the image of America's favorite homes - one of a kind designs that are in tune with nature" and blur the lines between inside and outdoor living. "Cottages are more intuitive, woven into the fabric of every cultures folk tales, they represent the universal home and are best defined by look and feel rather than architectural rules."
M. Caren Connolly and Louis Wasserman define a cottage as "intimate, bucolic, and quintessentialy expressive of the owner's imagination."
Well, this cottage was imagined as a love affair took hold in 1924 and the owners have certainly inspired imagination in all subsequent residents over the last 93 years.
It's hard to believe that when my parents first set eyes on this wonderful home and met the owners who held the key to thier future in 1974 just a short mile down down the road, that thier then two year old daughter would some day come back to own and care for this place herself, hopefully bringing it into its centenial years and continuing to serve the love that inspired it.
I'm happy to share and offer this special place to you and your family, what ever you like to call it, home, cottage by the sea, beach bungalow, retreat, escape, getaway, sanctuary, respit, holiday home, gathering spot....the list is long and they all fit!
I'm just happy to welcome you and continue to inspire young and old alike...so, please enjoy. I look forward to meeting you.
Dawn Clive purchased this house in 2002
I hope all is well!
I thought you might like to see some of the photos from our stay at the
house, and if you'd like to use any of the house photos on your listing,
please feel free to do so. Thank you again for helping make our stay so
memorable - it's very clear that you take great care of the property and
our wedding would never have been the same without all the little details
and beautiful hideaways. We loved it, and got many compliments on the
rehearsal dinner because of the beautiful house!
I stayed here with a bunch of friends and ADORED it! Super close to the beach, a lovely little yard, and an awesome house with such charm and character!
We spent 8 days at this wonderful house in July 2016. We had various family visit throughout. We had kids, young adults, senior citizens and a dog. Everyone fit so comfortably in this fabulous property. In addition to the charm you see in the pictures--which is even more so in person--and all the sleeping spaces...the house also offers ample separate areas for when you have different groups doing different things. The living room is cool and quiet and dreamy. The sunroom is bright and sunny. The deck is a perfect place to sit and chat. So even 15 people can be here and not feel at all crowded.
We cooked, we barbecued...we went to beautiful Plymouth waterfront about 5 miles away...we toured Plymouth Plantation and went to a nearby state park for a hike. Fabulous. But we also walked a few steps 'down the block' and enjoyed the wonderful beach. It's gorgeous, not crowded and utterly enjoyable from early AM to evening.
Dawn is a splendid host. The house offers everything and she takes wonderful care to make your visit all that you might hope for.
My family of 11 (plus 2 more for a dinner) gathered at this wonderful summer cottage for a June graduation. There was tons of room for everyone to have a bed, plenty of bathrooms, and all the amenities you could ask for (towels, sheet supplied, kitchen fully stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook for a crowd, a big gas grill, and lots of cozy, comfortable spaces to gather and visit. In a really terrific area - just a few houses down the street to the beach and a lovely area to walk around on a summer's afternoon. Dawn could not have been more gracious and welcoming, as well as available to answer any and all questions. We brought our dog - which was encouraged and welcomed - she was so happy to roam around the big, fenced-in yard. The house is charming with wonderful details - don't expect brand new perfection, but if you love the feel of an old summer cottage that is warm and welcoming, you will love this. Also, nice that you don't have to deal with the Sagamore Bridge traffic to get onto the Cape.
Would definitely return to this house for a big group gathering again.
I was referred to Dawn (owner) for a potential booking during the recent holiday season. From the start, Dawn was responsive and addressed all questions I had and made the booking process seamless. Dawn's home welcomed my entire family (humans and dogs) and provided a warm and welcoming feel for our visit to Plymouth. The property has a large yard which was great for the dogs. The property is also located close to the beach which is also pet friendly and is in walking distance to a neighborhood pizza shop, and grocery store. I would highly recommend Dawn and her amazing home for anyone looking to visit the Plymouth area!
The house is a hidden gem at Plymouth. Beautiful of everything: house decor, yard, etc.. Whatever you can see on the picture, it is truly same when you get there. We were a party of 11 people with a dog, it was perfect size for us. The location is great, walking distance from a quiet beach, driving distance from grocery and supermarket. And the host! Dawn is just nice and welcoming, same as Kaiser (Dawn's Norwegian Elkhound )! Definitely want to go back again...
There is nothing that can top this home. As our family gathered on the final evening to share memories, several of our group shared this home as a favorite memory. The walk to the beach is beautiful and the area is convenient to many places you want to sight-see.
On site, you'll find two single person kayaks perfect for exploring inner Cape Cod Bay/Manomet coast lines. Fishing on & off shore for Striped Bass. Seal watching. Photography, Painting, Beach Combing at low tides in and around the rocky bluffs. 1.5 mile sandy beach is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon walk along the shoreline. Sand castles!
Within a 5 minute walk from the house there's a corner store, supermarket, beer/wine venue, coffee shop, ice cream, sub/deli shop, pizza, breakfast/lunch diners, Chinese, fresh sea food, Italian, Greek, a great little Thai take out place, P.O., library, churches, The Antique Chapel, Day Spa, red box DVD rentals, and more.
In Downtown Plymouth (a 10 minute drive) there are more restaurants (including Thai, Mexican, Wharf/Seafood Dining...), championship golf courses, antique shops, boutiques, museums, evening shows/dancing/outdoor & indoor concerts. A visit to the Plymouth Plantation, aboard the Mayflower II & peak at Plymouth Rock you won't be dissapointed...
