Overview

About the property

5BR/3BA Sleeps up to 15

I'm happy to offer your family and friends a welcoming antique Arts and Crafts Style Beach Bungalow in the nostalgic "Manomet Bluffs" area of Plymouth, MA. Located just 10 minutes from America's Hometown, the Plimoth Plantation, Mayflower, Plimoth Rock and more. Our house is a comfortable 5 bedroom year round cottage and includes a heated enclosed sleeping porch and 3 bathrooms. We can sleep up to 15 people but, a weekly stay is still affordable for a family of 6 with our base rate starting from $4000 for the 2018 peak season.

It really is a charming Year-Round get-away with something to offer everyone needing the respite or wanting to bring people together, four season's out of the year. Designed as a Summer Hide-a-Way with throw back's to the roaring 1920's. This shingle style cottage was intended to be a showcase, and it really was during simpler times. Back then, 'summer vacation' meant something different than it does now. Families from all over would pack up their city belongings and head on down to 'the beach'. Year after year the same place was their little piece of heaven, carved out by surf and sea. Here, we're nestled into a little corner of Cape Cod Bay and during early morning sunrises, the ocean can look like a blue-green sheet of glass straight across to Wellfleet's Great Island Peninsula.

For families in the 20's it was the same. Now, almost 100 year's later it continues to call families back. Escaping to sea-filled air, we enjoy being with our friends and families even more it seams, gathering in the sand and affront shores, still works today as it has for years. Back when Summer vacations started Memorial Day Weekend and went straight through to Labor Day, summer gardens would go in all over the neighborhood. ....and they still do! Cook-outs, clam bakes, lobster bakes, campfires, fishing poles, sharing good books, singing, laughing, playing music, was the norm. Still is.

...What have we added...summer concerts, kayaks, dinner on the warf, ferry ride's to the islands, mooring our boats off-shore....!

Anyone who's grown up on the ocean knows you don't 'really' need an air conditioner all but a few nights out of the year. The fan's work great, you've escaped the inland heat and we grew up thrilled to have the cooler temps by the sea....yes, 10-20 degrees cooler by the shore during some of the hottest days of the year! ....and, the reverse is true, we're warmer longer into the Fall & Winter season's as well.

Ultimately, we all find life a little bit sweeter and settle into greater peace at a summer hide-away. Even in the middle of Winter! Nature nourishes our souls, where ever she is. Can't beat that. So, we might as well treasure it.

As the migratory birds, fly south anticipating the change of season families around here pack it up and put it to bed too. It used to be after the big Labor Day Weekend party. Everyone would say their good-bye's and put the cottage to bed. But, it comes earlier these days. Still, everyone pitches in at the end of the week for a final feast, only now it might be at East Bay Grille on the waterfront rather than to eat up all the left overs. We still ask that you sweep through the cottage, wash & fold the laundry, pack and tidying up before... heading on home, thought ;)

Year after year, generation after generation, it continues! Although the time spent together is shorter, this home still tells 'that' wonderful story of summer's, gathering families, surf, sand, seals and shells and is reminiscent of meaningful and treasured times for everyone who comes to visit. I'm happy to share it. Welcoming new families & old friends every year who can carve out 'their time' and create 'their space' to come and enjoy it are welcome!

We're just 5 houses back from stair access (3 flights of stairs w/bench seating between flights approx 130 stairs) to Manomet Beach. Known to generations of families who've vacationed here over the years, we now welcome yours. Manomet Beach is a private residential beach where you'll cherish long strolls, kayaking, sun & moon rises over Cape Cod Bay, seals, beach combing, finally finish that book and find some much deserved R&R in a quiet corner by yourself and/or with family & friends beside you.

Just 10 minutes south of downtown Plymouth, local area attractions include America's Hometown Historic Plymouth sights including: Plimoth Plantation, Mayflower II & Plymouth Rock. There's Deep Sea Fishing, Whale Watching, Harbor & Dinner Cruises, Ferry's Golfing, Antiques, Shops, Restaurants, Biking, Hiking & More.

We're located 50 min. South of Boston and 15 min. North of the Cape Cod Canal. We're also walking distance to Manomet Center.

Ferry rides to Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket & P-Town make great day trips!

Your contributing to the stewardship and legacy of a nearly 100 year old character-filled New England shingle styled cottage. Insuring it's preservation so that many will continue to be able to enjoy it, for generations to come. Additionally, we're looking forward to one day enclosing the stable house to create a studio space in which we can offer yoga classes, weekly meditations, & integrative whole health and life healing workshops. We continue to expand our organic garden and hope to extend the season with construction of a green house. We now have 5 sweet hens and offer fresh eggs to folks to enjoy. Thank you for choosing to spend your summer vacation with us on Manomet Beach and supporting Plymouth's Year Round Vacation Retreat House.

Guests wanting a little help deepening their R&R, local massage and Reiki practitioners are available but must be scheduled in advance on and off site. More information is available upon request.

About Dawn Clive

It is said...."There's something lyrical about cottages"

"Cottages ring true to the image of America's favorite homes - one of a kind designs...in tune with nature". "Cottages are...intuitive, woven into the fabric of every cultures folk tales,...represent the universal home and are best defined by look and feel rather than architectural rules." M. Caren Connolly and Louis Wasserman define a cottage as "intimate, bucolic, and quintessentialy expressive of the owner's imagination."

Well, this cottage was imagined and expressed through the love of two people in 1924 and the owners have certainly inspired families who've lived here and their imagination over the last 93 years.

It's hard to believe that when my parents first set eyes on this wonderful home and met the owners who held the key to thier future in 1974, there then two year old daughter would some day come back to own and care for this special place herself. As it's Centenial year approaches may this home continue to serve the love that inspired it.

I'm happy to share and offer this special place to you and your family, what ever you like to call it, home, cottage by the sea, beach bungalow, retreat, escape, getaway, sanctuary, respit, holiday home, gathering spot....the list is long and they all fit!

I'm just happy to welcome you and happy this home continues to inspire young and old alike...so, please come and enjoy. I look forward to meeting you.

Dawn Clive purchased this house in 2002

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Dawn,

I hope all is well!

I thought you might like to see some of the photos from our stay at the

house, and if you'd like to use any of the house photos on your listing,

please feel free to do so. Thank you again for helping make our stay so

memorable - it's very clear that you take great care of the property and

our wedding would never have been the same without all the little details

and beautiful hideaways. We loved it, and got many compliments on the

rehearsal dinner because of the beautiful house!

Best,

Notes:
Handicap Access - I had a friend in a wheelchair who used to come to visit every year. She would bring her own ramp to get up on the deck and then had wheelchair access into 1 bedroom/bath in the main house. Beach Stairs - there are 3 flights of stairs with landing and lookout at the end of each flight. If you're concerned about health issues and not used to stairs, take it slow enjoy the view at each landing. They're not steep so kids will be fine - they usually do better than their parents...:)

Bedrooms NOT air conditioned!! A/C in dining room ONLY

  • 3 of 5

Dawn is a pleasant, attentive host and her home certainly has charm, but we did not think it was fair to advertise the home as air conditioned when the only air conditioning is a window unit in the dining room. We booked the house because the reviews said it offered a variety of living spaces to accommodate a large group, but the July heat forced all 14 of us to spend all our house time crammed around the dining room table. We were also disappointed because we planned to save some money by cooking at the house, but again the lack of A/C in the kitchen and the small oven size of the antique stove prevented that. If you are staying at this home in another season, you may be quite pleased by the nostalgic feel and beautiful backyard, but if air conditioning is the first amenity you search for, like us, this may not be the place for you.

It is a pleasant house with steep but close access to the beach

  • 3 of 5

Dawn is friendly and welcoming. The house has lots of different spaces for people and a lovely garden. We found it comfortable for 12--not sure we could have fit 16. This house may not appropriate for people with mobility issues because of the 132 beach stairs and the awkward stairs without railing to enter the house.

A perfect property for our longer wintertime stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this wonderful old home for five unforgettable months (November through March). We did have visitors but most of the time, it was just the two of us. Though the house was more than we needed (we didn’t use the upstairs at all) we felt so comfortable and cozy here all winter long. Also, the kitchen was well equipped and we adored the antique Chambers stove top and oven that worked like a gem!

This property was a welcoming and beautiful sanctuary for us. It sits on an acre of fenced land with many trees, a garden and lawn. Dawn is a wonderful host (and new friend!) who lives on the property. She was there and responded quickly when/if we needed her but otherwise it felt very private which we loved. We brought our two dogs along and they loved it too! Only a block from the beach, we walked our dogs nearly everyday. Manomet beach is beautiful and quiet in the winter so they were off leash most of the time. There is also an enjoyable walk around nearby Rabbit Pond and the very best fish and chips at Woods Seafood at Plymouth Harbor, a short drive away! We’ll surely miss this little slice of heaven and hope to be back someday.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 8 days at this wonderful house in July 2016. We had various family visit throughout. We had kids, young adults, senior citizens and a dog. Everyone fit so comfortably in this fabulous property. In addition to the charm you see in the pictures--which is even more so in person--and all the sleeping spaces...the house also offers ample separate areas for when you have different groups doing different things. The living room is cool and quiet and dreamy. The sunroom is bright and sunny. The deck is a perfect place to sit and chat. So even 15 people can be here and not feel at all crowded.

We cooked, we barbecued...we went to beautiful Plymouth waterfront about 5 miles away...we toured Plymouth Plantation and went to a nearby state park for a hike. Fabulous. But we also walked a few steps 'down the block' and enjoyed the wonderful beach. It's gorgeous, not crowded and utterly enjoyable from early AM to evening.

Dawn is a splendid host. The house offers everything and she takes wonderful care to make your visit all that you might hope for.

Wonderful big family gathering spot - we loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 11 (plus 2 more for a dinner) gathered at this wonderful summer cottage for a June graduation. There was tons of room for everyone to have a bed, plenty of bathrooms, and all the amenities you could ask for (towels, sheet supplied, kitchen fully stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook for a crowd, a big gas grill, and lots of cozy, comfortable spaces to gather and visit. In a really terrific area - just a few houses down the street to the beach and a lovely area to walk around on a summer's afternoon. Dawn could not have been more gracious and welcoming, as well as available to answer any and all questions. We brought our dog - which was encouraged and welcomed - she was so happy to roam around the big, fenced-in yard. The house is charming with wonderful details - don't expect brand new perfection, but if you love the feel of an old summer cottage that is warm and welcoming, you will love this. Also, nice that you don't have to deal with the Sagamore Bridge traffic to get onto the Cape.

Would definitely return to this house for a big group gathering again.

Additional information about rental rates

Refundable damage deposit $300
Cleaning Fee $250
Pet Fee $140

A quick note about our rates: Basically we'd like to make our home affordable to smaller groups & families who wish to come and stay with us so we've "discounted" but, really initiated the base rate for occupancy of groups of 10 guests or less and then added a small extra guest fee to those travelling with larger groups. We've found this to be the best way to welcome everyone and make the home available to families of all sizes. A family of 10 will have a base rate of $3800/wk during the 2018 peak season and a family of 15 will have a base rate of $5800/wk during the 2018 peak season. This rate is before refundable damage deposit, service, cleaning and pet fees. If you're travelling with a group between 10-15 then your base rate will fall somewhere between $3800-$5800 for the 2018 peak season. On average our rate is between $750-$1500/couple/wk.

Damage deposit is fully refundable as long as property is left as, or better than received.
All credit cards or bank transfers are accepted safely through www.paypal.com or homaway book it
All deposits, signed agreements & reservations are confirmed with Guest as soon as they are received.
All funds are 100% refunded 'as long as property is re-booked', otherwise used towards a future stay. See lease detail
