Just 0.6 miles from the great beach is the large house called the White House. [Pardon the number of times I use the word great]. It has a great eat-in kitchen, three porches, two dining rooms and two living rooms (with wi-fi) on the first floor. It is very kid friendly. Then combine all the chairs in the kitchen and you have a cozy and quick meal. That floor is very well appointed with everything you'll need: cooking stuff, utensils, towels, beach chairs, games, soap, toilet paper. Name it they have it including complimentary soaps, etc. The outside porch has plenty of chairs, a hot tub (costing $250 to clean after every family leaves ), a grill and a fire pit for s'mores. There are five bedrooms; one down and four up. There are two bathrooms; one up and one down. A/C is great; however because of the intense heat this summer the upstairs rooms were warm but big box fans helped. Daniellle is an attentive owner whose phone number solved a few questions (where is switch for the ceiling fan?). Overall, we'd come back again.
The White House at Union Pier was walking distance to Lake Michigan.
The home was well equipped and featured a great patio for the family to gather, hot tub, grill and play games.
There were many rooms to relax and enjoy, a game room, TV room, living room for conversation, and dining room.
Our experience was very positive and we would recommend Danielle and her property.
We went just after the 4th and it was very warm for Michigan, Our family had 12 guest ranging from 9-59 the white house has some nice updates and a lot of room, 4 bedrooms upstairs are nicely sized and have comfortable beds. I slept downstairs and the bed was very comfortable. The house is spread out which is nice to get away from family members that bother you. The back of the house is very nice, The Weber grills gas and charcoal very exciting, a lot of chairs and space to sit and eat. My kids loved the hot tub, and the beach is a short 10-12 min walk. New buffalo is 4 miles down the road for a little shopping, bigger beach area and boat rentals. We rented a boat for 6 hours and if you haven't been on lake Michigan in a boat its a must do. We got lucky for the boating experience smooth water and overcast skies. The White House is an older farm house with some nice updates and some old school charm. There is not a dishwasher so bring paper plates. Overall a good experience and Danielle was great to work with.
This home was perfect for my group of 12 people as it provided 5 bedrooms, and plenty of couch space to sleep. The backyard is where we spent most of our time grilling, hang in out, playing bags and then at night hanging by the fire pit or in the hot tub. The house is stocked with everything you need to cook, eat and drink. There are stores and restaurants/bars across the highway that is really convenient but crossing the highway can be dangerous. It was great to have a Fenced in yard for our dog as well. The only pitfalls of the place would be it is a bit of a hike to the beach and the beach is small. Crossing the highway is also a pitfall. Would love to have a dishwasher as well. The return of the security deposit is also a bit of a disappointment as I have not received it back yet and we are looking at going on a week since I rented.
Overall this is a great house for large groups and all you need is at the house. I would definitely consider renting it again.
We were considering the White House for a family get together that we were planning on short notice. The White House had positive reviews but they were all from 2012. I thought I would add my review from 2015 and say that the reviews from 2012 were pretty much right on. The house is very pleasant and charming, clean, nicely decorated and much larger than it looks. There is plenty of room in 2 dining areas plus the kitchen to sit down and eat. There are also multiple comfortable seating areas where people could relax and read a book, play a game or watch TV. The patio/backyard is awesome with lots of seating, a hot tub, grill and fire pit. We did bring our own grilling utensils thanks to the reviews from 2012. The house was nicely appointed with beach chairs, towels, games and lots of serving dishes and kitchen appliances. The 5 beds made for comfortable sleeping for 10 and there were couches comfortable enough to sleep on. We did have to buy our own shampoo and soap and it would have been nice to have some replacement light bulbs in the house but those things were not a big deal. As for the train, the house is very close to the crossing so you hear the crossing bells and the train whistles in addition to the train. Some nights there were no trains at all - Other nights there were as many as 3. Most were quick commuters but there was an occasional freight train. It did wake us up at night but did not keep us from enjoying the house or having a great stay. The kids actually loved watching the train go by! It was nice to be just a few steps from Milda’s convenience store where you can get bread, coffee sandwiches, ice cream - almost anything. The small beach is about a mile away. There was limited parking but we were able to find a spot each day. It is also a very short drive from the Warren Dunes and New Buffalo. All in all I would say that the White House is a very pleasant place for a large group of people to stay.
The White House was very comfortable, clean, spacious and charming. It was a short walk to the beach (10-15 minutes). There were so many different rooms you could escape for quiet time or enjoy the patio, screened in porch for games and fun. We were all able to fit around the dining room table for family meals. It was close to Bud & Elsie's (convienent store) for whatever you needed. The upstairs bedrooms would get a little warm but rooms had fans so you were comfortable, except the small room had no outlet that we could find. House was well equiped with pots, pans, bowls etc... last but not least, the Train... was alittle loud.. some had a difficult time, I heard 1 out of 4 trains at night. Thank goodness for watermelon margaritas!! All n all, I would highly recommend for a large group of people.
