About Robin Stark

I have lived in Hawaii since 2005. I love Kona because of the weather (sunny), beaches (sandy), and the amenities (music, movies, shopping).

Robin Stark purchased this house in 2005

Why Robin Stark chose Kona Coast

After visiting the other islands, we fell in love with the Big Island. The core of Hawaiian life and culture can still be found here. The beach and sun are such a part of Kona! White Sands attracts both locals and tourists because of its beauty and the mana of the ocean, earth, and sky that combine in this magical place!

What makes this house unique

We find the serene and peaceful quality of this neighborhood the perfect complement to the vibrancy of Alii Drive which is just a block away. We appreciate the lack of traffic, noise, and activity when seeking a respite from the day's activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spacious, elegant retreat with pool, spa, 2 extensive lanais, steps from beach and ocean views

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted to experience this beautiful, extensive home - two large floors with two kitchens, ensuite bathrooms for almost every room, multiple sitting rooms, dining rooms and two large lanais - in addition to a large pool, a hot tub, barbecue and washer and dryer made this ideal for indoor/outdoor living, privacy between family members or friends and space to spread out and enjoy! The location is perfect -- steps from beach, town, and highway to access all parts of the Big Island. The owner was on top of everything to ensure we had a great experience!

Very good

  • 5 of 5

We - a group of 10 friends between 50 and 60 years old - enjoyed our first stay at Big Island. Positive vote mainly based on: pool, spacious rooms, large garden with a lot of places to sit, large lanai, which can be used at rainy days as well, even for large groups, big kitchen, perfectly equipped (dishes, spices, toiletries), washing machine and dryer.

Although one bed room has just a small windows to the garage and garbage bins, we rate 5 stars. Another negative point: barbecue was awful dirty, could not be used in fact.

Very helpful and caring owner.

Owner's Response: Dear Bjoern, Thank you for your thoughtful review. We apologize for the BBQ issue and have instructed our housekeepers to pay particular attention going forward. We recently started using a new service, and although they are doing a fabulous job, it always takes a couple months to master a new property. We strive to maintain all aspects of our house and property in excellent condition and greatly appreciate your feedback. Mahalo! - John and Robin

Perfect relaxing getaway home for large family, or friends.

  • 5 of 5

This place will be remembered as the site of our best family holiday ever. We had four kids and six adults, so with six bedrooms and four bathrooms we had plenty of room. The bedroom layout is really thoughtfully set out, the two masters are next to the twin rooms which makes it ideal for the families, and the the two double rooms have a slightly more private feeling with access to separate bathrooms which made it perfect for friends of family. (And even though it is a gorgeous property with a lux feel, it's decorated just right, so that I didn't have to go around hiding lots of glass vases and fragile ornaments before the kids got there!!) Having two lounge areas came in super handy, we used the larger upstairs lounge, kitchen, dining area and lanai as our communal area for eating and hanging out, and the downstairs patios (with very comfy seating), lounge and kitchen as chill out areas for anyone who wanted some alone time. Good wifi too.

Washer and dryer facilities were extremely handy, as were the pool and beach accessories provided -saved us from spending money on water gear and toys for the kids. We loved the pool which was a good size, very inviting on a sunny day, and set in a pretty garden: wonderful for both the sun-worshippers and the shade-seekers in our group. The house was so nice that we only ate out once or twice and the rest of the time enjoyed BBQ on the lanai, followed by star gazing from the hot-tub.

The kitchens are very well-equipped, with every tool and gadget you would have in your own home. We never needed to use the downstairs BBQ, but the upstairs one was high quality, and easy to use.

For us it was a perfect location, the closest beach was a short walk away. The second closest beach, a very quick drive, had superb snorkelling in a naturally enclosed bay with life guards, so all the kids got over their fear of sharks, and were ecstatic to see turtles for the first time. The nearby town centre was a fun place to spend a relaxing day window shopping and eating ice-cream, and had many family friendly places to go if you did want a a night out. It was an easy couple of hours' drive to the volcano park, and Akaka waterfalls.

All the people invested in the house from the owners, Robin and John, to the housekeeping folks, the pool man, the gardeners, we're very friendly and easy to reach if we had any questions. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for longer.

Our Wonderful Winter Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our family went to Hawaii to celebrate my 60th birthday and had a fantastic time! The Trade Winds was a great house for us and our family. There were 11 adults and 7 kids. Yep, I was told by Robin that since most of the children were small that it would work. With the air mattresses that were provided, it worked great! We had dinner together on the lanai every night except one and loved it! Made for some great conversations, funny stories, and just a wonderful time. Loved the fact that we were close to most everything and yet far enough away to be private. Enjoyed being able to walk to the beach only 2 blocks away. Had a few problems with the refrigerator and stove but a phone call brought the repair man right away. Thank you for a wonderful place to lay our heads, eat great family meals and just relax.
