Duck Village and Nearby Neighbors: The village of Duck is a quaint resort area with bike and foot paths, ocean and sound access. Located only minutes to the north is Corolla, a wild horse sanctuary with 4 wheel drive allowed on the beach, excellent shopping and dining, a restored lighthouse and many recreational opportunities. Located just to the south is Kill Devil Hills, home of the Wright Brothers' first flight; Nags Head with its famed Jockey's Ridge State Park, and Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. Other attractions include the NC Aquarium, the Lost Colony, the Elizabethan Gardens and outlet shopping. Nags Head's Gallery Row is home to numerous artisan galleries and studios boasting local and regional works, and more artists keep studios along the quaint streets of Manteo just across the Roanoke Sound. Vineyards to the west in Currituck, and nearby colonial towns offer something for every interest.
A second condo is also available in the same complex! Click on each picture to determine which condo you are viewing. Some photos added by previous guests. The condo advertised in this listing is 213.
Sports Abound: Whether your interests are enjoying water sports such as swimming, kayaking, deep sea fishing or para sailing, or you more prefer biking, hiking and canoeing, Duck and the surrounding area has it all. A golfer's paradise with the constant addition of nearby courses, the area also boasts opportunities for charter fishing parties, boat and jet ski rental, as well as the children's favorites of putt-putt golfing, go-carting and water park fun. Jockey's Ridge State Park, located on the area's highest sand dunes in Nags Head, features opportunities to learn to 'professionally' fly a kite, and the children are always entertained there with the huge sand castles. Many local rental services offer items such as canoes and kayaks, bicycles for the entire family, and various types of sporting gear. Be sure to pick up the Visitor's Guide at any grocery market when you get to town! They have additional information as well as tons of coupon offers. Ladies, did I mention spa surfing?
Enjoy your stay without breaking the bank!: With most vacation homes renting for thousands of dollars and the availability of only a few hotel rooms nearby, our guests find they can enjoy their vacations without spending a fortune on accommodations. This condo features all the amenities of being at home and includes a beautiful ocean view! A great accommodation for families with small children, single vacationers or couples looking to get away. Off-season rates make this a great location for girls' weekends and R&R getaways. The gulf currents make our beaches user-friendly through all of autumn. Special offers are not reciprocal to previously booked vacations.
When our four children were young, we spent every possible minute at our home in Duck. Now that the kids are grown, we get there a little less frequently, but have invested in two great condos in Colony By the Sea, one of which you are viewing now. Though only one condo is advertised on Homeaway, we have both condos available for rent. We are very active in the OBX community and have made many local friends. Duck has a particularly warm place in our hearts as we love the community feeling that you do not get from other beach locations. Many of our families favorite memories were made on the beach, watching firework exhibitions, taking in a performance in the town park and enjoying a great meal in a local restaurant, all within walking distance to our home. We pride ourselves in offering our renters and guests accommodations that are tended by our family members and that are affordable to small families. Because we have a local home, we are able to be on-site much of the time and get to know our guests and assist with their needs whether they have a medical concern arise, or perhaps just to help them select a restaurant for a wonderful seafood meal! Many of our renters return year after year for the personal service and great value these condos offer.
Vicki Powell purchased this condo in 1996
We are delighted to have so many positive reviews on our condos. We work hard to keep our furnishings fresh and attractive. Colony By the Sea condos are unique in that they each offer an ocean view, are merely a few feet from the beach itself and offer so many amenities just outside the door. From the pool situated on the ocean dunes, to the basketball and tennis courts, kiddie playground and barbecue area on the courtyard, there is much to enjoy that does not exist at other Duck properties. Parking is plentiful, areas for guests to clean fish are offered as well as outside showers and bathroom facilities near the pool. Two gazebos flank the boardwalks at the beach and are perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee early in the morning while watching the sunrise, or getting to know other guests. Many families make friends with other guests and reunite year after year. Weddings take place on the beach just below the gazebos, and the wide beaches give guests plenty of room to spread out while enjoying the sun and surf. Many beautiful rental properties exist up and down the Outer Banks, but few are budget conscious and allow the average family to have an affordable vacation without packing in a large group. Our condos are priced with small families in mind.
Each condo is identically outfitted and equipped. Though small, the condos offer full sized appliances in the kitchens and unique sleeping accommodations for up to six people. The master bedroom suite boasts a queen sized bed and a private bathroom, and a second full sized bathroom is located off the main hallway. The sleeper sofa in the great room hosts a queen sized sleeper and there is a set of bunks in a hallway alcove. These condos well meet the needs of the budget conscious traveler without skimping on little things that make vacations special. Owner managed properties (rather than those in rental programs) take the middle man out of the equation, allowing the cost savings to pass on to the guests!
Because our condos are not part of a rental management company's inventory, you are assured to have any concern that arises quickly and appropriately resolved. The savings we realize from managing our own properties are passed on to our guests, making our properties among the best values on the beach!
My family of 3 (mom, dad, and 13 month-old) from Pennsylvania had a phenomenal week (June 27th - July 4th). The condo was exactly as advertised and the location couldn't have been better; we were a quick bike ride away from the town and we had an amazing view of the ocean. Lastly, the owners of this condo were very cooperative and helpful, which we certainly appreciated. While in the Outer Banks, we visited the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the aquarium on Roanoke, Jockey's Ridge State Park, and the Wright Brothers Monument and Museum. Also, the local fitness center (Barrier Island Fitness in Kitty Hawk) was a great facility and in close proximity to the condo. My husband and I travel around the country and Europe and rarely visit the same place twice, but the Outer Banks is definitely a location we will visit again. Thank you for a fantastic week!
Our family of four returns every year to this condo. This year marks our fifth year and we have already chosen our week for 2016. The place is always very clean and welcoming. We like that the owners have a locking box on the door with the keys inside so that we don't have to wait in line at the real estate office like others have to do, and that we can arrive at odd hours. It makes travexing with kids much easier.
The beds are comfortable and we love the ceiling fans. There is plenty of storage for all our stuff and we can stow our bikes and beachchairs uneed the stairs outside.
Most places in Duck don't fall in our price range and Duck is our favoice OBX location for families. We have been so pleased to find a great place to come back to each year and love working with the owners. We highly recommend this property to other families looking for a good value for vacationing.
The condo was nice and very clean. The Internet service was excellent. The location is nice. We were able to hear the ocean waves even though the condo is towards the back. We were able to ride our bikes up to Duck for ice cream. The tube TV is too small. Trying to watch World Cup, college World Series, & NBA finals was impossible. I would have brought a small flatscreen if I had known. Also a printed channel guide would be helpful. The pots and pans are useless. Bring your own. The lockbox is tricky especially if you arrive at night.
Thank you so much for sharing your place and being so accommodating! The condo was spacious, inviting, clean and had what we needed. Close to the beach, great pool (maybe next trip), lovely town, and such a wonderful area to be in. Despite the rain the first few days we made the best of it all. Even in the rain the beach was beautiful! My mom enjoyed herself and I'm so glad she was able to tag along. We visited the aquarium, Bodie light house, and the wild horses. Ate at Blue Point, what great food and Duck Donuts- YUM. I can't tell you enough what a wonderful mother daughter time we all had. The last few days were fabulous. The W.H.A.T tour is must do for visitors in Corolla. I am so thankful that we were able to make this trip and stay in your place. Anyone staying there must get up and catch the sunrise. It's an amazing thing. I know I'll be back again..
We really enjoyed the vacation home. Very clean and had everything you could need for vacation. Very well maintained and had nice furniture. The pool was very clean and nicely sized. Not overcrowded at all. We will definitely recommend this to our friends and family. We have (2) young children (ages 3 & 6) and we really enjoyed how close it was to walk to the shops in Duck. We walked every evening to the shops in Duck and never got complaints from the children (so you know it was close by). Wonderful location.
Maybe it was the ocean waves, or the salty air, or the wild horses, but Duck felt full of love. My fiance and I walked on the beach, caught fish on the pier, chased horses, ate fresh seafood daily, and enjoyed morning coffees on our balcony. Nothing was planned and everything was perfect - we didn't want to leave.
FYI: if you're taking your car ON the beach, make sure to let some air out of your tires and stay inside the tracks. Don't miss out on the wild horse museum - a tiny gem (free!) in nearby Corolla.
