About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Windmill Retreat is a fine example of authentic adobe architecture situated on a hill in Marfa's northeast section with lovely views of the Fort Davis mountains and a short walk from Marfa town center.

This charming 100 year old adobe has been recently renovated, integrating modern conveniences while maintaining the integrity of the original architecture, including an old wooden windmill structure on the property. Minimally yet comfortably furnished, the one bedroom, one bath home features a queen-sized bed, a full sleep sofa, and a large gourmet kitchen with new modern appliances and accessories, ideal for cooking and entertaining. Hanging on the walls is contemporary art by established local artists from galleries in Marfa.

The east porch is bathed in beautiful morning light, and features a table that comfortably seats eight. The enclosed west garden affords privacy off the Master bedroom, comfortable Adirondack chairs, and small copper fire pit/grill, as well as indigenous blooming flowers and aromatic plants.

Windmill Retreat offers privacy with mature Pinon trees, and a peaceful surround...perfect for writers, artists, designers and creative people. (Three Night Minimum)

A perfect retreat on the quiet edge of town

  • 5 of 5

Loved our 3 nights at the Windmill Retreat! Such a relaxing spot to come home to after time at the Marfa Myths festival. We loved sitting on the porch watching the weather roll past in the distance. Also pleased to say that while the middle-of-the-night trains are an unavoidable part of Marfa, the Windmill Retreat was at enough of a distance that the noise wasn't a problem. Thanks so much for sharing your home, we look fwd to returning.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

I just spent the month of August in the Windmill House and found it to be perfect. So much thought was put into to making it most comfortable and user friendly for the renter. It's spare, in the positive Marfa kind of way, but all of the essentials are provided. Furniture and bed is comfortable, kitchen well equipped, WiFi excellent, air-conditioner efficient, linens high-quality. The house was impeccably clean on my arrival and very easy to maintain. And the view from the porch is magnificent! When I first arrived I was concerned that the house seemed to be located on the edge of town. But after spending a month there I realized the location is ideal. I'm female and spent the month alone in the house and felt totally safe. It's about a six minute walk to the main street of town and the advantage of the location is absolute quiet and unobstructed eastern views. I spent hours in the butterfly chairs on the porch just watching the sunrise, Texas storms rolling through, rabbits frolicking in the grass, road-runners bouncing around and Hummingbirds feeding on the flowers. The landscaping around the house is perfectly suited to the environment. The owners could not have been more communicative and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend the Windmill House to anyone who is looking for the quintessential Marfa experience.

Perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at the Windmill Retreat! The house was perfect for two and felt like our own home away from home. We enjoyed spending nights on the porch and having breakfast in the courtyard. One thing I was worried about was the bathroom (only because there weren't pictures), but it was great and up to the standards of the rest of home. This place is so charming and really made our stay in Marfa that much better! We unfortunately had some rainy days, but having this house to cozy up in was just perfect! I would highly recommend!

Charming and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Windmill Retreat. The house was perfectly tidy and exactly as advertised on the site. Hosts have excellent taste in furniture, books and art. House had everything we needed; full kitchen, clean towels, great shower. Very convenient to have a washer/Dryer too. It was perfect.

The east porch is fantastic to experience the sunrise and the sounds of the neigbor's goats is a bonus. Perfectly located just at the edge of town , yet walking distance to everything. Our Hosts were quick to answer any questions . Highly recommended!!! Thank you.

Refreshing and lovely

  • 5 of 5

Simple, imaginative, attractive, efficient. We found it just as described in the listing. This beautiful place is super clean, yet has the warmth of a home. The owners have perfectly channeled the Marfa vibe in their choice of furnishings, books, landscaping and attention to detail. It is aptly called a retreat, for though it is in town it feels remote when you are sitting on the porch, surveying the landscape and listening to the peaceful sounds of the wind and the birds. We came to Marfa mainly to see the Chinati collection; this lovely bungalow made it a seamless experience.

A perfect place to stay in Marfa.

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week in Marfa at the wonderful Windmill Retreat. Everything was perfect- just as shown in the photos. The house has been lovingly restored, is very comfortable, and has everything you would need. We so enjoyed our "porch time" - the view of the mountains Is wonderful. The house has an amazing library, and the location was perfect. It was home base for us as we explored Marfa, Ft. Davis, Alpine, Big Bend and all points in between. We will definitely come back to the Windmill Retreat.
