About this property

Aqua Vista Villa, Tortola, BVI

Aqua Vista Villa faces the Atlantic Ocean, north. Our home is located up the mountain where the deck view overlooks Trunk Bay with a breath-taking view of Guana Island, Guana Channel to Great Camanoe. On clear days Anegada is visible on the horizon. Although we are not on the beach you can hear the waves as you lounge on the deck.

Trunk Bay offers an expansive and very private beach that is wonderful for soaking up the sun or taking walks along the shore. During the winter months the wave action can be very powerful and not ideal for swimmers. There are many beaches on the island that are a short drive from the villa and many breath-taking views along the way. You will want to carry your camera. Josiah’s Bay, which you pass on your way from the airport, is known as a surfer beach. Cane Garden Bay is often buzzing with tourists and has lovely swimming and refreshments. A must visit, Virgin Gorda Baths is a one day-trip you won’t want to miss.

The one thing newcomers always comment on are the narrow, winding roads. You will want to rent a 4WD for getting about. Our island is one mountain range so there is no getting around without ‘mountaineering’. Road Town is just a 5 minute hop over the mountain where groceries and other necessities can be picked up. Be mindful to share the road with chickens, cows, and even sheep as you explore the island. If boating is your thing, the Moorings and Nanny Cay are the place to be.

The gardens and deck offer a quiet and peaceful place for guests to spend some much-needed down time. Day trips and exploring the island is exhilarating and the return to the villa is a wonderful place to rest and recharge. There is little noise or traffic as this is a residential area. Parking is available on the landing for those who brave the steep driveway, or you can opt to park at the top.

For accommodation, Aqua Vista Villa is simple, clean, and comfortable. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and private bath with a tiled walk-in shower. The open concept living area has a kitchen with full-sized fridge, stove, and microwave. All the windows face the water view. There is a long daybed/coach under the windows that extends the length of one wall and a breakfast nook in one corner. Ceiling fans in both the bedroom and living area circulate the cool sea breezes in the winter. All rooms are tiled and have a few scattered rugs. Air-conditioning is available for the warmer nights in all rooms, especially during the summer season.

Large sliding glass doors open from the bedroom and the living area onto the unit's covered patio which offers an uninterrupted panoramic view. Lounging in the large, circular deck bed/coach, listening to the waves as you read your favorite book is a must. If you like to grill, there is also a barbeque and outdoor sink with a small counter on the deck.

There is a stone pathway from the main level of the house to the villa where you have your own entrance. A gravel path continues from the entrance around to the deck and extends down through the front garden to the street below if you are up for morning walks, as we are. The trek back up from the road to the house is not recommended for the unfit. There are rails to secure your walk up the rustic stone stairways for those who don’t mind a climb.

Other amenities include complete bed linen set, bath towels, hand towels, face cloths, beach towels, hair dryer, iron and board, safe, and Wi Fi internet services. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the shower are complimentary. There is a 40 inch HD smart TV in bedroom that pulls out from the wall that you can connect your portable devices to to play your favorite movies. Cable or Satellite TV is not provided. There are no gaming devices, so you may want to bring your own laptop or entertainment devices if that is your favorite pastime. There is no washer/dryer in the unit. There is a drying rack for towels and beach clothes. Towels and linens can be washed upon request at an extra charge.

Feel free to download the 'BVI now app' to have an off-line map during your stay.

Aqua Vista vacation
We spent the most relaxing vacation, once we figured out navigating the very steep narrow roads.

Amazing View
We enjoyed our 6 night stay at Aqua Vista Villa. Edwina is a great host. She allowed us to check in a few hours early and was always available when we had a question. Peter even helped us unload and carry our luggage. Edwina and Peter’s property is beautifully landscaped and the view from both inside and patio are great! We spent our early mornings and evenings on the patio. The location of the villa is in a great location overlooking Trunk Bay and about a 10 minute drive to Roadtown. We went to beach near the villa a few times and only saw a few people each time.

Unparalleled experience
We had a glorious time here (just under a week) in 6/2022. Edwina has thought of every detail. The landscaping is full and lush. The beach was very, very private. No one was there when we walked it several days. The magnificent view of the water and houses on the mountain was great. There’s a soft outdoor sofa on a large patio where I could fit myself about 5 times (I’m 5’9”), a breakfast table setup outdoors, a modern kitchen and bathroom and beautiful decor in the sitting room and dining area. We shopped for paintings on the island but decided to ask our hostess Edwina to make a painting for us instead; she’s a gifted artist. Her whole family has her sweet demeanor. Loved the place and all of her helpfulness. The shower supplies are even artistically presented - colorful suspension liquids mounted on the wall the same way you’d find them in a luxury hotel. Thick towels, plenty of pillows, comfortable bed. I can’t give enough A+ ratings. This is THE place.

About the host

Hosted by Edwina Van Zoost

Host profile image
Hello there!

My name is Edwina Van Zoost and I am looking forward to sharing my home with you for a few days.

I am a Canadian who followed her husband to the Caribbean with two young children, who are now teenagers. That was over 10 years ago. Growing up in a small village along the shores of Nova Scotia ensured that I would be happy to live on a small island like Tortola. I am one of 6 children born to my parents. Life was never dull. We learned to work and get along.

My husband was a farm boy who loved the summer. Since coming to Tortola, where my husband works in the finance business, we have been blessed to have built our home on a wonderful, scenic lot in the mountains overlooking Trunk Bay and the islands nestled in ocean. We live in perpetual summer.

I worked for several years as a teacher in Nova Scotia until heading south where I home schooled my children. They are now attending a private IB school on the island. I have always been a creative person and enjoy music, crafting, painting, sewing, and exploring.

We have been very involved in the music and teaching in the church and it is an important part of our lives. We love people. We look forward to meeting you, should you choose to visit with us in our Villa.

Why they chose this property

Our property is nestled into the mountain, Turnbull Hill. The view is breath taking.

When people visit they are stunned by our view. We overlook Trunk Bay where the turquoise waters and surf are hypnotizing.

We own a corner lot that has no building obstructing our view. The decks are private because of the elevation and relatively quiet, except for the odd vehicle passing on the street below.

We are only a 5 minute drive from Road Town where fully stocked grocery stores are easily accessed. Living over the mountain from town offers tranquility. People often feel like they have gone back to a time when things were quiet and less complicated. People are not usually in any rush, they love food and celebration.

The island is dependent not only on the finance industry, but on its greatest natural resource, the water. Sailing here is coveted around the world. Diving and snorkeling the 'Indies', mooring off the many beaches of the surrounding islands, visiting 'the Baths' and other attractions deliver in beauty.

If you are looking to relax for a few days, this is the place to be.

What makes this property unique

To finally have a property of our own has been a wonderful way to put down roots for us and our children. Being able to plan the gardens has been very satisfying, even if it is a lot of work.

The sound of the ocean has always been a comfort to me. Being able to see it from any room in my home is uplifting. When working with the architect, having large windows from ceiling to nearly the floor was a must. I even hesitated putting drapes in the bedrooms, not wanting to block that view.

The villa has block-out curtains in the bedroom for sleeping through the sunrise if you so desire. The main kitchen/living area has no drapery which ensures full view of the ocean, sky, and vegetation.

I love the feeling of privacy this place offers, living in a small neighborhood is comforting.
