About Don Rucker

Home Sweet Home is Kentucky!!! A career move with IBM moved us to Summerville, South Carolina in 1976. I left IBM in 1990 and have since opened a few computer stores in the Low Country. We are avid motorcycle riders and love to do road trips. We also enjoy returning to Kentucky a few times a year to ride our ATV. But, the sweet spot for us is Maggie Valley, North Carolina. When we travel we can't help but compare every place we visit to North Carolina and so far we have not found any place that compares except maybe for Kentucky.

Don Rucker purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Don Rucker chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

Terri and I wanted a great view without having to drive up a mountain road to enjoy it. I ride a Harley Davidson so having a paved easy access road is very important.

What makes this cabin unique

Soco Mountain View!! There are only 15 houses in this Mountain community of vacation homes and each house has in excess of an acre of land.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay at the Bear Den. It was the perfect get away for our 10 year wedding Anniversary. We loved the comfy bed & couch & giant TV. We also enjoyed the hottub which relaxed our muscles after a full day of skiing. Thank you for sharing your home on VRBO. Keren & Michael P.S. We enjoyed all the pictures too! You are so artistic!

Beautiful Home & Views!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Maggie Valley & so glad we had the Bear Den to come home to. The house is immaculate! The view from the deck is amazing to say the least! Only things we needed were clothes & food! We rode motorcycles on the Blue Ridge Parkway & rode some different trails. Beautiful scenery everywhere. We ate at several restaurants in & around Maggie Valley. I did not have a bad meal! Everything was delicious! Don & his wife were very helpful as well. Super nice people! Thank you for letting us enjoy your home!

Very well maintained and up to date house.

  • 5 of 5

We really had a good time in Maggie Valley at The Bear Den. Have been vacationing in the area for 60 years but it had been a long time since we stayed in Maggie Valley. Very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smoky Mt. Nat. Park. House is close to town and not far off highway. House was neat, clean, well stocked with towels and bed linen and pillows and was very comfortable. We cooked and ate all but one meal there at the house. Really enjoyed having cable TV instead of Direct or Dish too. Didn't meet the owner in person but he seems to be a nice guy and his friend across the street that looks out for the place is a nice fellow too. This is a very good rental in a good location.

Five Star Stay in Maggie Valley

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent a glorious ten days at the Bear Den. We've been renting cabins in the area for over fifteen years. This cabin exceeds all expectations. It is very clean and well maintained. Layout is perfect whether your group is a only a couple, a small family or two/three couples. Hands down, this cabin has the best kitchen layout and supplies of any we have ever stayed. We prefer to eat breakfast in and the kitchen had everything we needed. I always pack my favorite pan, knives, etc. but I never used any of them. Bathrooms are nice and roomy, clean and well supplied. Entire cabin is very tastefully decorated, homey and comfortable. We enjoyed the deck and sitting in the porch swing to un-wind with the glorious the view. The neighborhood is nice and quiet if you just want to hang-out. We enjoyed using the hot tub after a full day of riding. This cabin is equipped with the very best hot tub set up ever. It features a handle that lifts the cover with only minimal effort. The deck is built surrounding the hot tub so that you do not have to climb awkwardly to get inside... you simply, and safely, step right into the hot tub. Communication with the owner was superb. Don responded very quickly and was very friendly and easy to talk to. I would recommend this cabin without hesitation. The rates are very reasonable and a great value based upon the cabin, amenities, cleanliness and customer service. Thanks for a wonderful stay - we will be repeat customers.

we needed a place to stay in the heart of Maggie valley, and Boy did we find the perfect spot. My girlfriend and myself with a few friends came down from PA to ride the beautiful scenic routes in this area. Not only did we have a fantastic time but the Bear Den exceeded expectations, a great place to stay and Don was extremely helpful.

We are already planning for next year...

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I could not ask for a better "mini- vacation" to see snow and enjoy the mountains of Tennessee. And we could not ask for a more perfect place to stay than Bear Den. It had all the comforts of home and more. The place was so clean and cozy that we felt right at home the moment we opened the door. It had all the little details other places usually miss like detailed instructions on how to use the fireplace, hot tub and TV's for us technically challenged individuals. And let me talk about customer service! The owner was exceptional. He knew it had snowed the night before our arrival and gave us the option to cancel if needed although our goal was to see snow so that was not an option for us. He then had the driveway, porch and hot tub cleared of snow before our arrival and was only a quick text or phone call away if we needed anything. After each day of playing in the snow, exploring the smokey mountains and skiing it was such a pleasure to come back to the warmth and charm of Bear Den. Thank you for the great memories!
