Guestbook comments from the manager

I'm sorry I haven't written sooner. Bill, Ruby and I had a wonderful time at the home we rented.

We loved the home. I can't think of anything wrong with it. Bill especially liked the mud room off of the entrance. He liked the fact that there was places for his shoes. Coats hooks, bench, shelves, its perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed. WiFi was very helpful to Bill as he was able to keep in contact with his office and jobs he was running.

We slept downstairs and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Loved the downstairs bathroom, beadboard and color blue chosen. Overall and wonderful place to stay.

We were able to play golf a few times. The Farm Course let us take Ruby golfing. I guess she got grandfathered in with the new owners.

We got to our favorite restaurants, Bellaire Bar, Alden Bar, Rowe Inn. Much fun was had by all of us.

Thank you for your help and direction to this home.

Great winter weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We shared the home with another family and it was perfect. Everyone had their own room, the kids had space to play, the adults could watch tv, talk, etc. It was the perfect amount of space to accommodate everyone. The home was very neat and clean. Nestled in the woods, fresh snow while we were there, and a short trip to the ski slopes made this a fantastic getaway for us!

Clean and well kept

  • 5 of 5

Very nice! Clean, well equipped. As described. We really enjoyed the outdoor spaces - the wrap around deck provided several different conversatonal areas, and the fire pit allowed us to sing around the campfire.

Great home, great location!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house! The basement get so nice and cool, and it's pretty sound proof...makes for great sleeping! Very cozy!

The area doesn't have houses with lawns, so there isn't much room for younger kids to play outside. I wasn't aware of that, but like I said, it's just the area.

Make sure you read the trash policy too, it's kind of a pain to haul your trash, especially when you don't have a truck bed to throw the bags into.

We visited Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Shorts Brewery, and rented a pontoon to explore the lakes up there. The location is fabulous. One random fact is that it was a challenge to find firewood for sale in the area! Stop and get some on your way up if you have room.

Fun Family Skiing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed on property for a week, sharing the house with another family. The house has clearly been recently updated, and worked well with our 4 adults and 5 teenagers. The house is located minutes away from The Summit at Shanty Creek (Check out the Shanty bar in the Summit village) and 10 minutes away from Cedar River and Shanty Creek lodges. Bellaire is 20 minutes away and has a very nice grocery store and Lulu's is a phenomenal upscale restaurant. The upstairs open concept kitchen dining area and living room worked very well. Balancing the heat between the two floors was an issue, but by closing registers on the second level it worked well enough. Would definitely recommend this to friends.

Comfortable family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place for a multi-family weekend getaway. Both families have young children, but when it was time for the kids to go to sleep, each child had a bedroom to theirselves downstairs. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Meanwhile the upstairs is wide open so the conversation and fun can spill from the kitchen to the table to the TV room, which had the NFL playoffs going in the background.

Great proximity for skiing and there's a huge sled riding hill for the kids. After skiing, we were just a couple miles from Short's brewery. I even managed to do some ice fishing nearby. See you next year! Maybe more than just an annual trip. Definitely recommended.

Over priced- could have done better

  • 2 of 5

This place is okay, I have stayed locally here for number of years and rented much better places for the same amount of money if not a little bit less. It looks like they have put a fresh coat of paint throughout but the updates done are very minor to this very dated looking place. No attention to detail, they have extension cords running along the floors and wires hanging from some of the newer TVs so it's not aesthetically pleasing and as are many of the other homes. The temperature between first floor and lower-level are extremely different and in order to be semi-comfortable at the lower level where most of the bedrooms are, you have to crank up the heat which makes it obscenely hot and unbearable on the main level, so one has to suffer no matter. One of the biggest things that I wish I had read prior to agreeing to staying here, is the fact that we have to remove our own trash we have to remove it from the property or we will be charged. Not all the TVs have the same channels, only the main floor has all the channels, the TVs in the bedrooms ask for a code that has to be entered to allow us to view.

Owner's Response: From the owners: Being fairly new at property ownership, we truely appreciate your feedback. We have owned the home for a little over a year now and have reinvested all rental revenue into renovations to the house. Some of the details you mentioned are slated to be resolved in the upcoming months. The cable TV issues in the lower bedrooms are being resolved this week. Regulating temperatures in older homes can be difficult, but can be assisted by closing off selected vents in the upper level. We will also be installing a ceiling fan in the upper queen bedroom to assist with temperature regulation. We consider ourselves to be very responsive to our renters and only wish you had contacted us during your stay so that we could have responded sooner and improved your rental experience. From the property manager: We welcome feedback and are truly surprised at this review as we did not have any requests for assistance during the guests stay. We provide a clear contract and policy Q and A document at the time of booking that provide detail on our processes and requirements - including the trash removal requirement (which is to a central location less than 1/2 mile from the home).
