Our home is the perfect getaway from the busy city.... in a relaxing lake area atmosphere.
Kids will love the large backyard and pond.
We are located just off Paw Paw Lake in Coloma Township, between St Joseph and South Haven. This area is very quiet, especially after Labor Day, and is perfect for a couple (or small family) that wants a nice quiet, relaxing 'get away' from the every day stresses of life. The Master Bedroom/Master Bathroom w/Jacuzzi is perfect for a couple... Our home is a great place to spend a week, or a few quiet days, relaxing and enjoying your honeymoon.... The Great Room is very cozy with a nice stone fireplace, cathedral ceiling, beautiful hardwood flooring, entertainment center and comfy furnishings.
The Coloma/Watervliet area is in the heart of Michigan's fruit belt region along the shores of Lake Michigan. In the spring, stroll along the shoreline and see the flowers in bloom, stopping to browse at unique shops along the way. In mid to late summer, and early fall... visit the many area orchards that offer a variety of fruits and vegetables. Pick your own peaches, apples and pumpkins and take a hayride through an orchard at Harvest Festival time. Winter time offers snow skiing, ice skating, cross country skiing and other cold weather activities... Or, just cozy up to the Great Room fireplace and relax.
Nearby Coloma and Watervliet offer local dining, movie theaters, antique shops and small town charm. Unleash your adventurous spirit and take a short drive on scenic Lake Michigan Circle Tour Highway, M-63, hugging the Lake Michigan shoreline, north to South Haven and south to St. Joseph. There you will find good food, live music/theater, unique shops, museums and art galleries. Each town has individual charm with it's own lighthouse, boat filled harbor and unique attractions -- an experience you will not soon forget!
Short term rentals only.

Born in Oak Park, IL... raised in LaGrange Park and Naperville. Moved to Naperville in 1961 when the town was just a sleepy farming community... with family in the Michigan City, IN area going back to the late 1800s. Our family has been coming to SW Michigan since the early 1900's. I spent most of my (summer) childhood years on the beach in Stevensville, where my grand parents had a home on Lake Michigan. That's when I fell in love with the area and I've been coming back ever since.
David Cerney purchased this house in 1988
Familiarity and proximity to Paw Paw lake and Lake Michigan... and the love of the area! Love the laid back atmosphere, lack of traffic and abundant of outdoor activities the area provides!
Paw Paw Lake is great for water skiing and spending a leisurely day on the water. Lake Michigan is close... with several beach access parks nearby. The harbors, shops, restaurants and beaches of St. Joe, South Haven and Saugatuck can't be beat and have some of the best fresh water beaches in the world! Check out my favorite restaurants... Schu's, The Buck and Clementine's Too in St Joe, and Clementine's in South Haven and The Friendly in downtown Coloma!
Antique shopping... sampling the various restaurants... boating the lakes... vinyards and orchards... scenic traffic free country roads, and the Dunes are fantastic! Charming St. Joseph and South Haven, both 15 minutes away. All less than than two hours from Chicago...
David, Thanks for the great house! We had a great time bonfire, grilling, and especially on Paw Paw Lake!
The home was clean and neat and stocked with what we needed. I rented this home for our family of 6 to be close to our nephew's wedding venue. It provided the space we needed and we were very comfortable. I really wanted a home with 2 bathrooms and they were both very up to date.
Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the property and yard.
It was well located near St. Joseph and the rental homes of the rest of the family.
The owner was very prompt with all communications. He gave very good and clear instructions about the home.
We really enjoyed the area and hope to get back.
We enjoyed our stay on Paw Paw Lake and found the house clean and comfortable. A few words to help future guests, though... the house is only minimally stocked with the things I would expect at a VRBO. We often stay in VRBOs because of the convenience of being able to make our own food and have additional space to spread out in. We are willing to pay more to know that the basic things we need to do so will be available to us. This home was the least well stocked of any we have stayed at, which was disappointing for the price we paid. There were only very minimal cooking supplies in the kitchen - nothing like a cookie sheet, no mixing bowls, no measuring cups, etc. There were virtually none of the basic cooking supplies we often find, like salt and pepper, oil, saran wrap, etc.The owner recommends you not drink the well water, but does not supply a Brita pitcher or anything like it. (There were many plastic jugs filled with water, but these were unlabled, so we were not sure if they were safe for drinking, nor how long they had been in the cupboard.) There were very limited towels (2!) in the kitchen, almost no dish soap, no dustpan, and only a few rolls of TP. These are basic items I think most people would expect to be provided for the duration of their stay... Overall, the house was a fine place to stay, but really didn't meet our expectations for a typical VRBO experience. If you decide to stay here, plan to come very well prepared.
A beautiful, well-maintained yard surrounds this charming cottage across from Paw Paw Lake and we enjoyed the variety of birds and pond life. We found the house exceptionally clean, with everything you could want for a relaxing stay. In 20 minutes you can be in either South Haven or St. Joseph for shopping or ice cream, or at one of the several beaches on Lake Michigan. An altogether delightful place to just relax!
Our family of six adults stayed for a long weekend in this clean, comfortable home. We had no issues with the home. It was as described on the site and the photos are very accurate. We took long walks along Paw Paw Lake Road which had some traffic but nothing too concerning. There is a bike lane on either side so we felt quite safe. We visited the small beach on the Watervliet side which is nice but I highly recommend taking David's advice and go to the South Haven beach. It is beautiful and was not crowded when we went. The living room is large and certainly had enough seating for all six of us. The bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom worked out great, even though two adults used them. They said the beds were quite comfortable. The master bedroom is spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The home is very clean and in excellent condition. We enjoyed the deck and the peaceful sounds of the evening. We would not hesitate to stay in this lovely home on our next trip to this area.
Our family (4 adults and 3 kids) stayed here for a full week during the summer and really enjoyed ourselves. The description on VRBO is quite accurate. The house is large and airy and in excellent condition. The master bedroom was delightful with high ceilings and a private deck. The master bathroom is worth the price of admission all by itself. It has a huge shower with a bench and two shower heads. There is also a jacuzzi tub!
The living room is large with two sofas (with built-in recliners) and a third stand-alone recliner. It has a new large TV with an internet connection (netflix) and wifi. The furnishings are very comfortable. The air conditioning made Lake Paw Paw especially pleasant in the summer heat.
We slept four adults and three children here very comfortably and would gladly stay again. It is also within walking distance of two restaurants and a convenience store. The house faces Paw Paw Lake Road but the noise was pretty minimal especially at night.
The owner, David, was very responsive to our inquiry for renting his house. He was quick to reply and it was a pleasure working with him.
The only negative item to be aware if you aren't used to the area, is the Michigan plumbing. Well water in the area can smell a bit "sulfur-y". This was only an issue at the beginning of our stay and only the super-sensitive nose of our teen noticed it after day 2. The plumbing for the toilets is also a bit "tempermental" and you should be prepared to have a clear and complete discussion (as out lined in the house) with any young children or teens. We did not have a plumbing problem, but I could see that happening very easily.
In short, it was all we could ask for.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon (side note...Stay far away from Chicago traffic on a Friday afternoon) to a well maintained although not clearly marked house on a beautiful lot...Gorgeous piece of property! House is well maintained, very clean and a great central location for quick trips to Saugatuck,South Haven ,St Joseph, Grand Rapids etc.
However we feel there could be some additonal common amenities in the house...some of the guest towels had holes in them, there was not something as simple as salt and pepper in the house (which disappointed me after we bought farm fresh eggs to enjoy for breakfast), the microwave could be upagrade, it would have been niceer if there were matching plates, cups etc, the back door off the bedroom was at times difficult to lock...
Don't take this too much to heart, beleive me we didnt suffer while we were there, we just think things could be a bit updated and improved on...Southwestern Michigan is truly a beautiful place to visit

PLEASE NOTE: This home is recommended for a maximum of 6 occupants. Exceptions are possible, but the owner must approve any additional occupants over and above 6 adults. If approved a $75 fee will be imposed on each occupant, per night... over the 6 maximum allowed.
The two main bedrooms have Queen Beds in each room, to sleep a total of 4 adults. The third bedroom is smaller with a Bunk Bed and a pull out Trundle. While the Bunk Bed is sturdy enough to sleep 2 moderately sized adults, IT IS NOT normally recommended for 2 full sized adults. The bunks are recommended for children, teenagers, or young adults... primarily for comfort reasons. Because of the limited size of that bedroom, it is highly recommended that only young adults or children should sleep in the bunks... it would be a tight fit for more in that room with the trundle pulled out.
A standard Rental Agreement is required to rent this home. Any questions about this, contact the owner.
If additional occupants are approved (over 6 adults) there will be an additional charge of $75.00 per day, per person (no exceptions).
Exceptions can be made however, for smaller children, toddlers and infants... where parents bring their own crib. PLEASE CHECK WITH THE OWNER BEFORE BOOKING. Thank You!
