About Kelley Hagerty

My mother, husband and I purchased this beautiful home as a family get away. Our large extended family enjoys escaping from fast paced lives at The Great Aspen Chateaux I am pictured here with our our twin sons who came into the world in late 2012.

Kelley Hagerty purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Kelley Hagerty chose Black Mountain

We purchased this property as it is near our other family home. (vrbo 81207) We needed more room for large family gatherings.

What makes this chalet unique

The greatest asset of this house is the view. It is enjoyable to be sit with family or friends on the decks relaxing with peaceful nature!

The house had a beautiful view on front side only. Driveway and parking was horrible for a large family with multiple vehicles. Since we were all coming in at different times and directions, which was why we rented such a big home. The house was very choppy and nowhere for us all to sit together unless we used the dining room tables which of course were not comfortable for long chats.

In the living room, I took it upon myself to sit in floor on a blanket so others could sit on couches, one chair was broken in sitting room. I noticed the cleaning service had missed under furniture for quite some time. I would say if we had a group of young people the pool table would have been useful but even that room didn't have enough seating for more than a handful of us. Two bedrooms were so small the luggage had to be stored outside the rooms. The bunk bed room was very nice though 2 ladders were broken and risky.

Overall it was not what I expected for the price. Our family as a whole would not recommend or rent there again.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry and quite saddened to see that your family was so dissatisfied that you would not consider returning nor recommend the home to others. So that I do a better job of presenting the home accurately; would you be able to spare a few minutes to answer questions and provide suggestions? If you do not have the time or inclination to help no worries, I just want to make sure we whatever is possible so there are not dissatisfied guest in the future. I've gleaned from the review the high level concerns that need attention are: - Mountain driveway and parking - lack of seating - choppy layout - small bedrooms lacking storage - two broken ladders For the lack of seating and choppy layout, I have not received that feed back before as our common rooms are large and open. I do have pictures of those spaces online to present what is in each room . Nevertheless, wanting to ensure all guests are aware of the floorplan/storage/furniture layout before booking I will add floor plans that detail out what furniture placement and storage is in each room. For the broken ladders in the bunk room – I’ll get those fixed right away. With regards to parking, it's the mountains where driveways are long and steep. How could I describe it better. Here is what I have now: Online description: - as with most mountain houses with great views, our driveway is long and steep. It is paved and passable for all cars except during Icy conditions (winter snow its ok, but ice halts all traffic in the area). - we can park about six cars at the top of driveway. If you have more than six cars you would need to park some cars nearby and shuttle to the house (I would provide more detail) Information packet: Parking: For more than six or seven cars there are flat grassy spots off the road at the corner of Great Aspen Way and Wood Haven Lane. Additionally there is a paved loop at the bottom of Great Aspen Way by the mailboxes (hemlock circle) or by the one lane bridge in that pull off parking area. When parking away from the house please ensure other cars can pass by (i.e. do not block the road or ability to drive through) You'll likely need to shuttle folks from these parking spots. I am sad and sorry that your family was not pleased with the house. I would appreciate your response so I might do a better job for future guests. Thanks much, Kelley

Beautiful home in which to make memories

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10 return every year to enjoy each other and our own spaces at this spacious home in the trees. Well-equipped and clean, this higher-end home feels like we are staying at a friend's place. Different gathering spaces (all those decks, great room, downstairs game room with billiards, reading nooks, second dining room table to keep games, cards and puzzles going) along with beautiful long range views to paint and photo make it easy to relax and enjoy.. Love the fog rising up from the valley and transporting us into clouds, seeing the wildlife on drives in and out. Shopping trips down to Montreat and Black Mountain, a special dinner out at The Red Rocker Inn, and dinner in from My Fathers Pizza, day trips for hiking zip lining and white water rafting... Even hiking the hills in the neighborhood after dinner was enjoyed by the younger adults. This home makes it easy to go or stay. Kelley is attentive, quick to respond, and easy to work with when real life intrudes. We've made our reservation for next year!

Nice Place, great view.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed four nights. Enjoyed your home - nice kitchen and living area, pool table hot tub, plenty of space, so much better than a traditional hotel. We relaxed as a family before dropping off our daughter as a freshman at college. We liked Black Mountain and its great small town feel, Asheville was 20-30 minutes, local people are very friendly - we hope to call on you again. Thank you.

Surpassed expections

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to anyone looking for a place for a large group. Fourteen family members stayed from grandparents to a seventeen month old. The house is well equipped and spacious. We never felt cramped and there were plenty of options for things to do. The time flew! It's a nice little town too.

A lovely place to stay

  • 4 of 5

This home is very spacious and well-appointed. There is plenty of room for a large family or a group of smaller families or friends to stay comfortably without sacrificing privacy or comfort. The mountain view is just spectacular, and it changes constantly! It's a rugged area, so walking around the neighborhood is fairly strenous. The location is very close to lots of fun activities, including (reasonably priced) golf, swimming, hiking, and dining. There are some lovely shops and great restaurants in the town of Black Mountain, and Asheville with all it has to offer is a short drive away. If you've never been to the Biltmore estate, it's a must-see destination as well. Overall my extended family and I really enjoyed this home in the mountains of North Carolina, and we recommend it to others.

Wonderful gathering place!

  • 5 of 5

This property was just beautiful. Every year our family meets at a different location. There was not one person in our group that didn't enjoy this place. The pool table and game room we enjoyed daily. Hiking was on the agenda, many gorgeous place for that. We would do this again! Plenty of wildlife to see!
