About Ragnheidur

My name is Ragnheidur Oskarsdottir. I live in Reykjavik with my husband and children and grandkids.

My summers as a kid (and since!) were spent in the great outdoors of Iceland, hiking and fly-fishing.

Feel free to contact me about anything I can help you with related to your stay.

Ragnheidur purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Ragnheidur chose Iceland

My family had a cottage in this part of the country when I was a kid. It's a fantastic area with all the varieties of nature and close to some of my favourite spots in Iceland.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is comfortable and warm. It is heated with water from a local geothermal drilling hole which is owned by the farmer up in the valley.

It has lots of room, it's accessible in the wintertime and has great views. You can even see the tip of Hekla volcano towards the south-east. The perfect place to unwind.

Great House, great owners and a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We went from mid to the end of April and had a wonderful stay. The house is spaceous and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped (and well stocked), so that we could have cooked a meal the first night, even if we wouldn't have bought anything from the supermarkt beforehand.

The owners were very patient, helpful and quick to respond, whenever we had questions.

The road to the cottage was easily driveable with a small rental 2WD car (VW Polo), as long as you were driving careful (as you should anyway an all gravel roads in Iceland), so no problem there :)

In short: An absolutely wonderful cottage in a beautiful country. Would stay there again any time without hesitation!

Wonderful Location and Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here. Owners were very accommodating, the cottage is very nice and clean, and the surrounding area is gorgeous. We would definitely stay here again.

Our trip was in mid-March and the road in to the cottage from the main road definitely required a 4x4 due to snow. It's fairly straight, but doesn't seem to get plowed.

Lovely cottage to stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our visit to Iceland very much and especially staying at the quiet Geysir Valley Cottage. Finding the cottage was no problem with the information we received upfront. The cottage is very comfortable and clean and was ideally suited for our purpose to discover the southern part of iceland. The night sky is breathtaking in this area and the Northern lights are simply beautiful.

We would like to thank our hosts for their hospitality and care.

We can definitely recommend Geysir Valley Cottage

We miss the hot tub already!!

A great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have spent 7 days in this lovely cottage and enjoyed the quiet surrounding. The cottage is nicely furnished, well maintained, very comfortable and clean and a bath in the hot tub was just perfect after a long day of driving. Communication with Ragnheidur was great upfront and also when we had questions during our stay.

We had decided for a 2WD vehicle, which worked very well for the main roads to get to Geysir & Gulfoss (both very close to the cottage), southern points like Vik or the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik and Pingvellir area. However next time we would decide for a 4WD to be able to explorer more of the backroads. All in all it was a great time in Iceland and we can very much reccomend Geysir Valley Cottage!!! Thank you!

fantastische, ruhige Lage, tolle Unterkunft

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage in a lovely landscape

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our Iceland stay in this cottage very much. Although situated in a quiet surrounding it is located near some of the most famous attractions of Iceland: The geyser Strokkur is located more or less in walking distance from the cottage and the famous waterfalls of Gullfoss are only 10-15 minutes car drive away from the cottage. The cottage itself is well furnished and we did not miss anything. We lived there with 3 adults and 2 children and for that amount of people the cottage provides more than enough space. After our sometimes exhausting day trips we also enjoyed the hot tub very much in the evenings. Although a gravel road leads the last few hundred meters towards the cottage it was no problem at all to get there by a normal 2WD-car - this is true at least during the summer months. The communication with our host (Ragnheidur) was very friendly, as all our questions we had during and in front of our stay were answered almost immediately. Especially the instructions Ragnheidur gave us in front of our visit have been very informative and useful. The following day trips/activities we undertook during our 10-days-stay:

- Geyser Strokkur and Gullfoss waterfalls

- Hveragerði hiking trail to hot mountain springs (the bath in these springs were definitely worth the walking efforts!)

- Blue Lagoon near Reykjavik

- Horse riding for our kids near Gullfoss

- Skógafoss doing the first part (7 km) of the famous hiking trail from SKÓGAR to ÞÓRSMÖRK (my personal favorite, next time I will surely walk the complete trail.), Dyrhólaey Nature Reserve, Sólheimajökull Glacier

- Kerið crater

- Þingvellir national park

- Hiking up the Bjarnarfell (the mountain heading towards the west side of the cottage). No easy way to find, but wikiloc.com provided the tips how to get there. Very impressive sight in all directions from the top of the mountain.

- Reykjavik

- Hjálparfoss, Gjáin and Þjóðveldisbær

All in all, there are always some details to improve: The next time I would definitely rent myself a 4WD-car. Our planned hiking trip to Kerlingarfjöll we had to cancel as the Kjölur Road was just to bad to get there without a 4WD-car, but the cottage I definitely recommend to everybody planning a trip to Iceland.
