Stay in quaint Jackson, New Hampshire high on a mountainside in the majesty of the White Mountains. Floor to ceiling glass surrounds an open living area with large kitchen and adjacent deck to provide a stunning mountain panorama with Mt. Washington front and center. The perfect all-season getaway that is great for entertaining or just lounging with secluded bedrooms for peace and quiet. In the heart of Winter X-country skiing at the Jackson Nordic Ski Center and minutes away from some of the North East's best alpine skiing at: Wildcat, Attitash, Bretton Woods, Sunday River or Black Mountain just a mile away. Summer fun includes in-town golfing, lakes, rivers, mountain trails, horseback riding, water parks and more. Two Master Bedrooms and four additional bedrooms with 2-1/2 baths make it a perfect multi-family retreat. Amenities include: steam shower, stereo, Cable TV, wireless internet access, printing, and washer/dryer.
The home is owned by the business partners of Winter Street Architects, Inc. of Salem, MA and their families. We purchased the property from two families of Malcolm MacClain and John Macomber (founders of Wildcat Ski Resort and renown ski families) who built on what they thought was the best view of Mt. Washington in the Valley.
Paul Durand purchased this house in 2001
The house is perfect for socializing with family or friends. Open upstairs with good privacy downstairs so even as a gatherings are full bore you can escape below to comfort and quiet. Even quiet time, alone or with a few, you reside in the peaceful and ever changing scenery and weather of Mt. Washington who becomes one of your guests.
Nicely appointed with steam shower and appliances in a tasteful retro-modern style with plenty of room. With 6 bedrooms of 2 Kings, 2 queens and 2 trundle beds you and your extended family or friends can affordably stay in great comfort for a week or weekend (or longer) for alpine or Nordic skiing, hiking, climbing, biking and those ever so wonderful trips to Storyland.
We had an amazing time! The place was spacious and everyone could fit and socialize comfortable (there was 12 of us)! The view was amazing along with the hill in the front we used for sledding. Overall it was a great stay😀
This summer, a group of our friends stayed at this location, and we had a wonderful, wonderful time. The place is gorgeous, with excellent views and a slew of bedrooms -- enough to comfortably sleep everyone in our 10-person group. The pictures don't do the place justice: The kitchen/dining main area are much larger and more modern. Best of all, the place is super conveniently located near Jackson -- just a few minutes of driving down to basically everything in the area (watering hole, Eagle Mountain House, Red Parka Pub, etc).
The owner, Paul, is also incredibly polite, professional, responsive, and accessible, providing us with detailed instructions on what we need/what's in the area. All around, I highly recommend this place if you have a large enough group.
Lastly, a few other reviews here mention the driveway, which we also had initial concerns about. But Paul had it fixed before our stay, and it's just fine now. So if that's you're only cause for hesitancy in choosing this place, forget it: it's all good.
We have stayed at this house over the Memorial Day weekend. The views are gorgeous, there are plenty of bedrooms and the kitchen/dining area is great to spend time in, especially after a hike. There is plenty of hot water, which is great too. Now about the cons. We were warned that the driveway was rough. It was an understatement. It barely can be navigated if you drive a low sitting car, and only after we threw away the most protruding pieces of the pavement. The gas range was not working for the duration of our whole stay, fortunately the stove was electric and baking was possible. The owner was gracious enough to offer a partial refund due to this inconvenience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful, spacious chalet. It was the perfect size and layout for us and, lordy, what a view. The common space is generous and made it easy for us all to be together to talk and have our meals. We really could not have asked for better accommodations for our multi-generational, international family group.
I now have the image of Mt. Washington as seen from the living room of the house as my screen saver and I expect to never tire of looking at it.
I recently held a small yoga retreat at this wonderful, spacious chalet and it was all that I could have hoped for. There were beautiful vistas from the living room and deck, a well appointed, modern kitchen, and enough space for folks to have some privacy. The only negative was the driveway, which could use a little TLC. Otherwise, the property was perfectly suited for our weekend getaway. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and look forward to renting it again in the future.
We decided to bring our kids for a trip to Storyland over the Columbus Holiday Weekend. We wanted to rent a house which would comfortably accommodate two familes, each of which had 3 kids ranging in age from 8-1. The property we selected was perfect for this. The bedroom sizes were large and the iving area layout was well thought out. The kitchen was very well equipped also which was great as we cooked in on 2 of the 3 nights we spent there.
The proximity of the house to Storyland and the town of Jackson meant that once we had made the initial slog from Hingham, we could choose to stay local and still have plenty to see and do. The foliage was magnificent and the views from the house spectacular - if only we managed to work the telescope!
The customer service provided by the owner was first rate and included a comprehensive information package which ensured a problem-free stay. The property was very clean and well-maintained and managed to feel like a home away from home.
I would love to see it again in the winter time and to experience the wonderful skiing in the area. My kids have already asked when and not if, we are going back! So I guess I had better start saving.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone.
