Poor handling of a bad/unfortunate situation. Not convinced this listing actually exists
Firstly, I am not an avid reviewer. If I have constructive criticism I relay it to the owners of the business for them to correct their business as they see fit. After attempting that, I now see why open reviewing has it's benefits.
I got married in Hyde Park and booked this stay for my immediate family. The morning of their arrival and check in I was told there was a broken pipe and they could not stay there. I had the option of canceling or staying at another one of their properties a few blocks further from the original property. In a seriously stressful situation outside of this circumstance, I was very thankful for a backup. I knew the property once given the address because it was one I had previously denied as unsuitable for my family because of location, layout and quality. But in a pinch, I am still grateful for the backup. I said so in the initial conversation. Upon arrival with half of the family in tow from the airport, we were distressed to see that the couch was smaller than in the pictures (no sectional), it smelled like smoke and it obviously hadn't been stayed in for a while (smoke detectors were beeping and a general must was in the carpets). I called Alan to check up on it and he would not return my phone call but only texted. However, it was clean and had enough beds and bathrooms. Beggars can't be choosers. Things worked and a wedding was attended and life went on. The after effects are what moves me to let other visitors know they are at some risk when booking with this provider. There was a price difference between the two properties. I paid more per night plus tax for the property I had originally booked. I also had to do some hectic changing of plans very last minute while trying to maintain the months of wedding planning schedule on wedding weekend. I know it may sound petty, but seriously it's not when you plan your own wedding! I had asked for a refund of the difference including tax and the service fee. We are not talking major credits here. After 15 emails over a month, I was told there was no price difference and if I want a refund of the service fee to ask Homeaway. This isn't a home away issue. This is a service provider issue. There was a cost difference. I took a screenshot of the same weekend for the same amount of dates in the menu to the final stage before payment. Cheap. Annoying. Alyssa and Alan, this is your business. I would suggest practicing it with a little more compassion.
Excellent Family Apartment
We've stayed at this apartment twice now. The walk to campus is not bad at all (about 15 minutes to the North dorms, 20 to the quads). The CVS and Hyde Park Produce grocery store a block south of the apartment on 53rd are extremely convenient. The apartment itself is quite spacious and well laid out. A very pleasant place to stay with a family.
