Guests tell me the photos don't do the cottage and property justice. Read our reviews. Very private. Clean. Lots of space. Drive down to the beach. The East side of Seneca Lake has lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. New 100 foot dock. New windows and doors. Close to wineries, college campuses, and Sampson State Park. Ten miles from Geneva for shopping, movies, and food. Two Five Star restaurants within 15 miles. Each year we renovate another part of our little cottage and many of our guests and their pets return every year. One bedroom with two double beds and a large living room with one pull out couch can sleep 4. Cottage is 880 square feet so best for 2-4 people. Cozy but maybe too small for anyone over 6 foot 2 or over. New kitchen appliances, cupboards, air conditioning, and microwave. We added a pellet stove for visits in the early spring or late fall for wine tours, an aluminum boat for fishing, a canoe and kayak for sunsets on the lake. For further information, call or e-mail me. It is a lovely place to relax.
Enjoy the quiet - pets welcome. Guests and their pets return every year. One of the few places with no stairs to the lake. Everyone enjoys swimming in the lake, laying on the dock, visiting the wineries (we have three within 7 miles) and local restaurants. Others have ventured to Ithaca, Rochester, and Canandaigua to visit museums, gourmet restaurants, and historic sites. The bedroom is above the lake so when you wake up in the morning, you feel like you are on a boat, overlooking the lake. The kitchen and dining area are on the bottom floor and look right out onto the water. There are many places to walk including a two mile hike up to Sampson State Park.
If you need to get away from the stress of your life, this is the place.
Enjoy the Lake: This is NOT for you IF you want a high energy vacation. See the herons land on the dock each evening and the ducklings come by each morning. The waves will rock you to sleep. Swim and kayak during the day. Take out the rowboat to fish. Have beach fires at night and visit our many wonderful wineries and restaurants nearby. No cable TV (just DVD movies). No internet but if you want, you can smart phone your way into the busy life of your workplace. We suggest you don't. Just relax and get away. This is truly the country and as our friend Simon always says, 'They aren't building any more lakes.'
My family purchased the property in the 1960s and over the years we added rooms and renovated what was a little boathouse into a full functioning cottage right on the lake. No one is allowed to build this close to the lake anymore but we were grandfathered since the building was here before that ruling. Each year I add something new. In 2015, it was a 100 foot permanent dock, new doors and new windows. In 2015, I retired from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where I had been a professor since 1984. Some people retire to the south. I retired back home to the north. I have two adult children who help me with the cottage (Until they graduate from college). I have been renovating and renting this cottage for 9 years. It has been great meeting nice people (and their pets) and having them return year after year.
Cindy Lont, owner purchased this cottage in 1960
The difference between this cottage and the others on the lake is the location. It is very private with over 280 feet of lake shore just for you. There are no stairs going down to the lake like other cottages. You walk out the door, two steps off the deck and you are 6 feet from the water. You park your car down on the beach. It is private, quiet, and you can relax. No landline phones, no internet, no cable. Lots of DVDs, CDs, books, swimming, sun and boating. Want to leave work behind? This is the place.
My parents always had a house on Seneca lake for summers. After 40 years, I finally live on the lake year round. The cottage property is so beautiful. I love the fires at night, the sunsets and swimming off the dock. Every night is a different sunset.
The location and privacy of the cottage cannot be beat, not many rentals have so much lake front and privacy. Cindy has thought of everything you might need - from bath towels to paper towels to cutlery - the cottage has it. The wine trails are really great but my husband and I also enjoyed some of the local golf courses and hiking trails (Watkins Glen Gorge Trail is a must!). This is a perfect, relaxing getaway in a great, private location.
We had a great time, the cottage has everything you need, very private and beautiful views. All you need to bring is food and drink Cindy has thought of everything else.
This cottage is a slice of heaven. My husband and I truly enjoyed our time. It's the most relaxing vacation we have had in a long time. Our two dogs also enjoyed their time at the cottage, it was their first time in a lake and we couldnt keep them out and they both loved the dock just sitting and watching the ducks and geese float by. The cottage is so close to historical venues and the wineries. Lots of food options only a short drive and the cottage has everything you are going to need. We will definitely be back to stay. A big shout out to the owner Cindy for offering such a great place for people to rent.
Well equipped, clean and well maintained. So close to lake that it felt like we were on a boat. Owner Cindy was available but respected our privacy.
My wife and I just completed a 5-day stay at this house and loved every minute of it. The location of the house is perfect...it couldn't be more "on the lake" unless it were literally in the water. The house itself is cozy, though we didn't spend much time inside. Most of our time we spent relaxing in the Adirondack chairs on the deck, either reading, fishing, or both. We had great fishing off the dock and caught 6 catfish and 1 crappie, which made for a nice fish fry. You simply can't beat relaxing on the dock as the sun sets across the lake. Magnificent. We also spent time actually on the lake using the boat and canoe that are provided (all necessary paddles, cushions and life vests are also provided). I'm not a great paddler but just getting out on the water and chilling was great. All but one evening we spent around a fire which is set up right next to the water. It's great for toasting marshmallows, making s'mores, or even hobo meals as we did for dinner one night. Ample firewood is provided and nature provides an abundance of kindling along the shore of the lake. There is a very nice Charbroil grill for cooking out and we took advantage of it a couple times (not the rusted out kind of grill you usually get with a rental). Grilling tools are also provided. Inside, Cindy has thought of, well, everything. Heck, even the ice cube trays were filled! You truly won't need to bring anything, unless you want some of your own spices and such. Plenty of utensils, pots, pans, kitchen towels, etc. If you're looking for somewhere to "get away from it all" this is truly the perfect location. Geneva's not far away (15-20 mins, depending on where in Geneva) if you need to hit a good grocery store or Walmart. As Cindy mentions, there is no internet or TV (though she does provide some movies, which we didn't use), but who needs that when you've got the entire lake at your disposal?
We loved every part of our stay here and already scheming for another getaway.
My husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I are repeat visitors. We look forward all year to our fall weekend at Seneca Lake! The cottage is clean and comfortable for the four of us, and located in a great spot for easy access to the local wineries, restaurants, hiking trails, etc. The tranquil setting on the lake offers amazing views and glowing sunsets. The neighborhood is quiet, and there's a state park nearby for relaxing walks. Highly recommended!
Cottage is 10 miles from Geneva on the East Side of Seneca lake. Three wineries are within 7 miles and the cottage is three miles from Sampson State Park.
Other Activities: Twenty miles from Watkins Glen for a wonderful hike through the Glen. Three miles from Sampson State Park and the military museum. Fifteen miles from Seneca Falls, home of Women's Rights. Around Seneca Lake, there are 42 wineries.
