This jewel of an island is located a quick 20 minute ferry boat ride from Seattle but is a paradise getaway from the bustle of life. The house, comfortable but elegant, has a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the Puget Sound and a private deck where you can sit back and watch the sun rise or set.
A private hot tub is located in a garden with a view of the water. Follow the 50 stairs down to the beach where a gazebo and charcoal grill are the perfect place for an outdoor meal and bird watching. Take the kayak out into the Sound as dusk settles on the water. A two acre garden is filled with trees and plants that thrill the most ardent gardeners.
Identified as one of the top summer vacation spots, Vashon Island has fishing, biking, kayaking, horse back riding and hiking for the athletes and art galleries, book stores, free concerts and a movie house. Hunt for shells on your beach walks or just sit back and enjoy the quiet, the solitude, the view of water and sunsets. This island is a hidden secret that will have you coming back year after year...
My parents loved to garden. We lived in Yakima, Washington but as my Dad neared retirement, he and mom wanted a place where they could garden year round and where plenty of rain made growing easier. They bought 2 and 1/2 acres in 1976, built a lovely small house that looks out over the water and created magnificent gardens. We live in Denver but came to Vashon every summer for family reunions and vacations. I see my parents' love for gardens from every room in the house. My brother said that the new kitchen (2010) brought my parent's gardens indoors.
The Owner purchased this house in 1976
My parents are gone now but they have created a place that is unique in its beauty. We love sharing this magical place with renters who like to watch the sun setting from the deck at night, explore the beach, have morning coffee in the hot tub, roam the gardens and pick vases of roses or curl up in the living room with a fire and a good book on a rainy day. A gourmet kitchen fully stocked with utensils, appliances, spices and everything any cook could need was added in 2010.
This is a very private home with a spectacular view of the Puget Sound. A perfect place for rest, retreat and restoration.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The view dominated the living area through the huge windows overlooking the water and deck. The home was comfortable and well equipped. My husband, whose back is particular about beds following surgery, agreed with my assessment that the bed was comfortable. The kitchen is lovely. The winter weather and time spent primarily with relatives at their home kept us from enjoying the outdoors, but it would be a treat to enjoy the property and water in warm weather. If we return to Vashon in the future, we'll have this spot on our return agenda. Thanks for an enjoyable stay!
Maggie's home was complete with most every spice which may be required when cooking dinner in the updated kitchen. The house was spacious and homey, warm and inviting. The hot tub was perfect for relaxing after a not-so-hard day. And the surroundings are wonderful. The view of Quartermaster Bay was beautiful. We had rain four out of four days, but sitting on the wrap-around deck and watching the sunset would be special. There was no downside to our stay. Thanks!
Overall: beautiful setting, comfortable home, well supplied & all amenities functioning and in good order.
Specifics: 1) Deck overlooks Bay with much to view - boats, birds & seals, tidal changes and sunsets.
2) Well stocked kitchen for preparing family meals. Propane grill on deck.
3) Our 4 year old granddaughter enjoyed daily visits to pygmy goats, sheep & geese in the neighboring fields.
4) Fresh produce available daily at farm stand across the road - pay by the honor system.
5) Took daily walks & hikes at multiple parks & beaches on Vashon Island. Great views without crowds.
6) Enjoyed free concert in city park.
7) Easy access to Bay for kayaking in protected waters.
8) Easy ferry access.
9) Hot tub delightful, especially in cool weather.
10) Thriftway supermarket in Vashon town is well stocked, with a very good deli.
This was the perfect place for our family! Beautiful location, stunning view and very inviting. From the moment we drove down the driveway and saw the sheep, ducks and rabbits, to the first glimpse of the house, I knew we made a good choice! It was we'll stalked and clean. We had plenty of room for the seven of us. I did give an excellent rating, but would have marked it at four and a half if I could. Only because the bathtub/shower in the downstairs bathroom was a bit small for our tall family members. They just used the extra large shower upstairs. The owners are planning to remodel that bathroom, so shouldn't be a problem in the future. Would definitely stay again if visiting Vashon island.
From the moment we drove down the driveway to the moment we closed the door for the last time we were awestruck at the beauty, efficiency, cleanliness, and peacefulness of this home. As we opened the door for the first time an aahhh came out of our mouths as we gazed through a beautifully appointed dining room, kitchen and living room and outward to an outstanding water view. The home was large enough to accommodate the five of us, giving us room to get together as a family and also to find respite from the group in separate living places. It provided us with the perfect place for our family to gather and enjoy Christmas together. The town of Vashon is quaint yet provides all the amenities one needs. The ferries travel so many times a day it was never a problem to travel off the island. We highly recommend this home as a vacation destination.
This was a fantastic experience renting this beautiful home!! It was extremely spacious and very warm and inviting! My family and I loved it tremendously! We really enjoyed staying on Vashon Island! I'm pretty sure we will stay again! My brother lives in Seattle so I hope to return here again!
Vashon Island is a secret jewel - a rural island, home to an active artists' community, an outdoor lover's paradise (biking, kayaking, fishing, beach walking, horseback riding, hiking, birding) - close to Seattle and a 2 hour drive to Mt. Rainier (great hiking), Port Townsend (artist haven) or 4 hour drive to the Olympic National Park. You can take a foot ferry into downtown Seattle for a day at Pike Street Market, museums or Seattle's world class library. The beaches tend to be rocky but full of many wonderful surprises and the swimming is for those who are hardy, but the sun on the water is beautiful any time of day and the sunrises and sunsets are pure magic.
Other Activities: 2 kayaks at the beach for paddling in the Puget Sound
