Le Grand Camus is a former Breton farmhouse that has been extensively updated to provide a high quality and well equipped holiday rental property.
The open plan living accommodation has a large kitchen with modern appliances including a range cooker with 5 rings and double ovens, a dining area with french doors overlooking the enclosed grounds and a relaxing seating area with 3 sofas around a wood burning stove.
There is one bedroom on the ground floor, the first of 2 with ziplink beds giving the flexibility for guests to choose whether they prefer this to be a double or twin room. The shower room opposite has a large shower cubicle, basin set in a vanity unit and a wc.
On the first floor there two more bedroom suites, one with another set of zip link beds and an ensuite shower room, plus the dual aspect master bedroom which has a magnificent 4 poster bed and chandeliers - ideal for adding a little romance to a holiday. The ensuite to this bedroom has a separate bath as well as a shower cubicle.
Outside there is plenty of parking beside the house and a large BBQ deck in front of it. Beyond the deck there is a small lawned area which opens onto an enclosed paddock / orchard - a great area for kids to let off steam. Teak outdoor dining furniture, sun loungers and a couple of giant bean bags are provided. For guests bringing cycles to explore the locality there is a rack bikes can be attached to.
Our holiday home in Brittany is a truly tranquil location, ideal for barbecues, relaxing with a book and a drink, watching the bird life, sketching the scenery, strolling or fishing beside the nearby river. Situated in a rural setting in grounds overlooking ancient moorland providing plenty of private outdoor space, the stresses of everyday living can easily be put aside to enjoy the slower pace of Breton life.
As 6 friends we have been staying in gites for almost twenty years. It was unanimously agreed that Le Grand Camus is by far the best property we have ever rented. The house is finished to an extremely high standard and provides light, airy, spacious accommodation. Furnishing is excellent and the whole party remarked on the most comfortable beds we have experienced. It is superbly well equipped and a great deal of thought has gone into the items provided; even down to 13 amp trailing leads in every room for that multitude of chargers we all have to carry these days. There is a deck and barbecue area within the huge garden. Le Grand Camus is located in a remote area offering complete tranquillity, yet within a few minutes’ drive of Plemet where the supermarket, shops, bars and restaurants can be found. Centrally located in Brittany, both the north and south coasts are an easy drive on almost deserted roads.
We spent a lovely seven days at Le Grand Camus. Everything we could need was provided, including kitchen appliances, lovely comfy beds, plenty of hot water, heated towel racks (!) and stunning views. Le Camus is incredibly homely, clean and comfortable, and is a five-minute drive away from the nearest village. It's about an hour's drive to other local market and historic towns, and 50 minutes to the beach.
The house is bordered by a beautiful wood, and green fields stretch into the distance. It's very peaceful and a welcome break from London. Can't fault it in any way. Would absolutely recommend and hope to return!
There are many marked walking and cycling routes around Le Grand Camus, whilst the proximity of the River Lie also makes it a focal point for Anglers visiting the region. Just 2km up-river kayaks and all terrain bikes can be hired whilst there are stables with ponies for hire in nearby Loudeac Forest.
A wide variety of options are available locally for eating out, including traditional Breton creperies, auberges, excellent seafood restaurants, relaxed bistros, a medieval themed eatery or formal award winning gourmet restaurants.
Many of the surrounding towns have weekly markets selling fresh farm produce and local craft goods; there are also numerous antique markets throughout the year.
Nearby medieval Moncontour alternates with more famous Dinan to hold realistic bi-annual medieval fetes, which are sightseeing musts like the chateaux at Josselin, Cap Frehel and St Malo.
There is a large indoor pool complex at Loudeac with flumes and whirlpool as well as a full sized swimming pool; in summer nearby La Cheze features an open-air lido.
The beautiful North Breton coast has stunning scenery with small rocky coves filled with sailing boats, stretches of flat golden sands and shelving inlets where mussels are farmed overlooked by open moorland.
Brittany also has several high quality golf courses, notably the international course at Val Andre, set above a lovely long sandy beach.
