About Sondra Bennett
Sondra Bennett is the fourth generation heir to the Rivera Ranch. Her children assist her with managing the Ranch just as she did for her mother Ramona Rivera Lawson. Ramona was born in the larger cabin and raised there by her mother Ignacita and father Encarnacion Rivera. During that time the ranch was a full-time outfit moving mostly beef, horses, other small livestock. The River Cabin is the last structure built on the 6 acre lot and was originally used for hanging tack and dry storage. The first buildings built were the dugout next to the creek followed by the barn (no longer standing) and finally the larger cabin. The cabins date back to the 1840's and were carved out of the Pecos Wilderness by Cristino Rivera (Sondra's Great Grandfather) with mostly hand tools, ox, and later a saw mill. Cristino settled the area and is accredited for establishing the town. Sondra has been a part of the Ranch her entire life and has fought to keep it in the family as her mother did before her. Sondra honors the memory of her mother by continuing the legacy and ensuring her grandchildren (6th generation) will enjoy and respect it just as she, as well as those before her. Sondra resides in Cleveland, TN and travels to Tererro as much as possible. She loves sharing the beauty, and peacefulness of the ranch with those who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Great place to unwind
Had a great time. The cabin runs alongside the Pecos river. Loved listening to the sound of the river running at night. The stars in the sky were amazing. Loved the cabin, it was rustic and had everything we needed. Only wished the WIFI had worked. The property was beautiful and enjoyed seeing the deer come down in the evening. Great place to relax and unwind. Will definitely come back again.
A little corner of paradise
The property is beautiful and the location is perfect. The only noise was the sound of the Pecos River and the wind. The cabin is rustic and has plenty of windows to take in the views. I was looking for a quiet corner to distress and unwind. This was a perfect place for that. The best thing was listening to river. Thnak you!
Comfy Cabin Camping
Beautiful spot on the Pecos. Cabin is rustic, but charming and comfortable.
An amazing historical property in a beautiful setting.
Fishing and nature
Great property for fishing and being outdoors. The cabin is rustic as it says. It is a place to eat, sleep and take a shower. The river and pond offered excellent fishing. If you like the outdoors and don’t need to live in luxury this place is perfect.
A rustic fish camp
The setting of the cabin is extraordinarily fine, right on the bank of the Pecos River, with beautiful property grounds and National Forest abutting directly on the West. However, for the price, more attention needs to be paid to maintenance and supplies. For example, the front door closes with difficulty, the bathroom door does not close, it is very difficult to turn the cold water faucet in the bathroom on and off, and there is no door to the small refrigerator freezer. There were no paper towels or napkins, very little dish soap, no large pot for cooking beans or pasta, no instructions for using the gas bar-b-q, no instructions on how to empty the garbage, no instructions on how to reach our host without internet or cell phone service, no dust pan and dust broom. This is a wonderful setting, and with a little more care, the accommodation could be wonderful, too.
Thank your for your review of the cabin. We will make the necessary repairs which you have stated. This is why these reviews are so important, without them I wouldn’t know what is in need of repair. As far as contacting us we usually use WiFi to contact guests, we have changed from Hughes net to century link for better service but we still have not received the correct modem from them to update our WiFi. This will be fixed soon. Thank you again.
