The property ...: Le Hameau Imaginaire is just over a hill in 2 hectares of land, with a beautiful salt-water pool overlooking beautiful views that change constantly as the sun moves across the sky. The property is very private, but if you look carefully you can just make out farmers working their fields in the land around. Is behind a small wood, home to many varieties of birds and animals, and beyond that is a spectacular view of the Pyrenees. I bought the farm 25 years ago, it was an impulse purchase inspired by my great love of France, but it proved to be the most meaningful home that I have ever owned. I can not describe the pleasure to be had in relaxing to the sound of cicadas whilst grilling a magret de canard on the barbecue, or watching the shooting stars in an almost unbelievably clear summer sky. That is the whole spirit of the place is quite wonderful. There is also an orchard and a herb garden from which you are invited to serve you.

The views and the gardens ...: The views from 'La Tombe' are magnificent. Sometimes the morning of the valley fills with mist and the local village, 'La Sauvetat' floats above its ethereal hill. Mornings like this the toll of the church bells seems much clearer and the shrill cries of the hawks suspended in the air. With the sunflowers in full bloom the landscape is a saturated bright yellow, and the last daylight shines through from the west creating shadows getting longer in the trees until the sun disappears to be replaced by an incredible array of light bites and shooting stars. If you walk to the back of the property on a clear day, the Pyrenees form a majestic jagged snow-capped line in the distance.

The garden is full of private corners. There are three fountains playing throughout the day. One from India, one from Morocco and one from France, not to mention the fountains playing in the pool, inspired by the Alhambra in Granada.

History ...: Gascony has had many successive settlements with new-comers always attracted by its strategic position and its fertile soil, ideally located on trade roads, with rivers making shipping as possible.

Culture of the area and history can be well illustrated by what happened in the village of Pujols, a charming township in Lot-et-Garonne. It was first occupied by a Celtic oppidum (in the middle of the first millennium BC) and then transformed into a Roman castrum (around 56 BCC.) And then transformed into a Gallo-Roman village (during the first centuries of our time), to be invaded by the Vandals, who where followed by the Visigoths (in the 5th century AD), and then taken up Arabs (during the 8th century), followed by the Normans, before being totally destroyed and reconstructed (with new fortifications) for the Hundred Years War ...

However, it is much quieter now! There are just wonderful fortified bastides left to show this turbulent history.
