Aloha! We are Michael & Candi . We caretakers of Maka Nui on which Pali Hale is located . We have lived on this property since 1991 Being Big Island residents for over 29 years this is now home forever. The new owners have enlisted our help to make this a peaceful retreat from their busy life in the mainland. To that end we are always trying!
We love meeting new guests & giving clues as to the best way to enjoy the island while here. There have been many return's , so must be doing something right!
So we hope to hear from all of you & treat you to our slice of paradise.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
The property is on a cliff over looking Kealakeakua Bay , which is a marine preserve & offers wonderful kayaking -snokeling. The quiet rural area is perfect for enjoying the birds & smells of Hawaii . But is a short 15-20 minute drive to Kailua town for night life.
Maka Nui means eye veiw which is obvious when you enter the gated property.
First is the coast line veiw, then the fresh fruits & flowers which are yours for the picking. The security of your own resort type setting. There are 2 mascots ( dogs)named Frick & Frack which love to meet you also. We also 2 cats and we are their staff! The peace & quiet is a plus for all.
Although we "booked" this property about 7 months in advance of our visit, the owner rented it to someone else and we were forced to scramble for another property. Even though we followed all their instructions regarding payment, they simply returned our check and said, "sorry". This owner is not to be trusted.
We thoroughly enjoy our 2 week stay in our cozy cottage. The view from the lanai overlooking the Kealakekua Bay was awesome and we ate all our meals on the lanai. The kitchen was well equipped which was appreciated since we cooked many of our dinners at the cottage. We took advantage of the nearby pool which was beautiful. The Wi-Fi worked good although our AT&T service was spotty. Candi was a fabulous host with ready local information which added to the enjoyment of our stay. We enjoyed the coffee and wide variety of fruits grown on the farm. The quiet picturesque location was somewhat remote but yet easily accessible to places north and south on the island. We would strongly recommend this cottage for those looking for a unique island getaway.
If you have been afraid to book a place on line, rest assured that this property undersells itself and over delivers! We were at this little piece of the Big Islands for 11 days, and enjoyed every minute at the cottage. Candi is a great host, who is helpful in everyway possible. From the welcoming basket of fruit, cookies, candies, to milk and juice in the fridge, Candi is the kind of host that you will enjoy. She is available for information to make your stay enjoyable, or just a wave as she drives by to say good morning.
The cottage is well equipped in the kitchen, lots of beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, masks and snorkels. Oh, and the cottage is very clean.
This is a place you can pack light. The washer and dryer is close at hand.
We will defiantly be back, and in the meantime we will make sure our friends know.
Great job on making our vacation memorable Candi.

The cottage is a lovely little retreat with an absolute killer view. I really enjoyed the privacy and quiet the farm offers as well as the South Kona location. It's convenient to town, south coast beach attractions and other parts of the island. I would highly recommend for those who prefer a more 'natural/local' experience, in comparison to the 'resort/touristy' experience. It's a great place to relax and recharge. Candi was a helpful and gracious host and made me feel at home. Hope to come back soon!
Nice location and view. Very helpful caretaker Candi is always there to answer your question. Look forward to going back.
We were looking for a secluded place that wasn't too far from the volcano, restaurants, shopping etc. This cottage is all that and more. The view is indescribable. Words and pictures aren't enough, it must be seen to be appreciated. Candi was there to help us settle in and answer any questions. It was a very pleasant stay. If you are looking for the perfect place for your second honeymoon or a romantic getaway, This is it.
The main house and the cottage were both amazing. We stayed at the cottage this time because it was just my husband and me. We arrived very late and Candi made arrangements for us. She was always there for anything we needed and the coffee she made was the best coffee beans I have ever had. We come to Kona a few times a year and will now always stay at one of the properties she manages. She took our stay from very good to great.
