About The Owner

Aloha! We are Michael & Candi . We caretakers of Maka Nui on which Pali Hale is located . We have lived on this property since 1991 Being Big Island residents for over 29 years this is now home forever. The new owners have enlisted our help to make this a peaceful retreat from their busy life in the mainland. To that end we are always trying!

We love meeting new guests & giving clues as to the best way to enjoy the island while here. There have been many return's , so must be doing something right!

So we hope to hear from all of you & treat you to our slice of paradise.

Mahalo Candi & Michael

Maka Nui means eye veiw which is obvious when you enter the gated property.

If you’re not a resort person, this is the place to go.

  • 5 of 5

If you’re looking for a quaint, quiet cottage on a beautifully landscaped property close to snorkeling beaches and many sights, this is the place to go! Great view, amazing pool, and knowledgeable caretaker are just some of the perks. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Very quaint and what a view!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights. It is a basic cottage but it has just what you will need for a nice stay. The welcome basket was a sweet touch. Lots of hot water. Candi took great care of us and made lots of good local recommendations.

Nice stay and gorgeous view

  • 5 of 5

We used the pull out couch and the bedroom and both were comfortable. Not much counter space to prepare food but we used the tv trays as a table and there is room outside on the lanai to eat and enjoy the view. There is also a nice pool and lots of space to wander. The 3 dogs greeted us every day and made us feel at home. It is a nice place to stay away from the business of town but within 5 mins. of the beaches.

Great property but outdated

  • 3 of 5

Need a better bed, hairdryer, and Airconditioning. The view is spectacular and the dogs were friendly. But all in all it’s to much$ for to little.

Loved it! Beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

We were here for 3 nights October 17 thru October 20. The cottage has the best view and Candi was an awesome hostess - we had fruits and back-yard local grown cofee waiting for us. She recommended places to visit and where to eat. Lots of activities to do in the area and some good places to eat. We drove down Napoopoo road and we rented a kayak down in the bay where we went snorkeling and while snorkeling we saw dolphins swimming in the bay - great experience! There is a local honey farm that you can visit and buy local honey (on the same road), a painted church and many other places to enjoy.

Thank you for a great stay and if we are back in the area we would definitely come back to the cottage.

Absolutely the best cottage on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

This was our first attempt at staying in a VRBO while traveling to Hawaii.

We stayed Wednesday 10/4-10/11. The island was not crowded due to the iron man competition the following week.

The property has a gate for restricted access, we loved that. The property has the best welcoming committee; Frick, Frack, and little Chucky.

Our host, Candi Baker, was responsive before the actual stay and most accommodating during our stay. She recommended places to eat, places to visit, and provided us a fruit and coffee basket upon arrival. All from the farm where the cottage is located. She let us have access to any of the produce on the property including papayas, star fruits, lemons, limes, bananas, kumquats, and avocados. The mango tress just finished producing before we arrived. What a bonus that was for us!

The cottage had a great lanai, the WiFi was strong and reliable, the kitchen was small but adequate for our needs. The bathroom was good enough for both of us. The cottage was near the town of Captain Cook, so it was high enough in elevation for warm days and cool nights. It's centrally located for all your island adventures. Candi, produces her own coffee and it was very good. The cottage comes with a bean grinder to enhance the Kona coffee experience. This is primarily a couples cottage. This is by far the best value on the island in my four previous trips. Thanks Candi, we will be back!
