Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

  • 2 of 5

I agree with everything the Disappointing person wrote. It is much smaller than the photos make it appear, especially the master bedroom and bath. There were bugs everywhere and though there were plenty of linens we were worried about when they'd last been washed. The Wifi only worked one day and though they said they would send someone out to fix it, no one came. My daughter had college homework so I had to hook up and pay for an expensive hot spot so that she could complete it. Also, there wasn't a dishwasher but there were instructions for how to hook one up to the faucet. We all enjoyed being together and it's a beautiful area so that made up for the place being generally unclean. It rained a lot during our trip and it would have been nice if there was a sort of overhang or porch at this place, but there was very little in that regard. They do have games and a tv which is nice, but generally I thought of it as a big tent and felt as if I were camping, which in the end, was the goal.

Owner's Response: Hello Melissa, we are sorry to hear that your stay was not all that you had expected and hoped for! Casa Loma is known to the town of Red River, and many who visit as one of the original Red River cabins and dates to over 100 years old. This we do advertise for this home! It is one of the reasons that people love visiting this cabin, to experience the mountain life that we all love. We have been experiencing more bugs than in past years due to the increase in rain that Red River, NM has seen! We are so thankful for this rain because even though it does mean bugs become more of a nuisance it means that our forest does not close to the public but remain open so that families can enjoy their time together doing things such as hiking, fishing, cooking out, and off-roading. We have plenty more homes that have more amenities such as the overhang on the porch, and a dishwasher that you would have liked. We invite our guests to take advantage of the virtual floor plans that Red River Real Estate has to offer so that way our guests know exactly what the house has to offer before making any reservations!

Staying here was a wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our family ( 6 adults and one 3 year old) loved staying here. Yes, the floor in a bedroom was uneven but it added to the charm. The cabin was clean, spacious and cozy. We especially appreciated the phone call the day before our arrival to see if we had any questions. We actually did as our luggage didn't make the flight so our arrival was going to be late. The renters accommodated us very efficiently and thoughtfully. We loved our time at the cabin and cannot wait to go back.

Disappointing!

  • 1 of 5

Although the location is very convenient and the exterior is attractively quaint, the condition of the interior was very disappointing. You could say it’s rustic, truth is it is rundown.

The sitting area, which was the center of the house, was comfortable and roomy.

All the bedrooms, kitchen and dining area surrounding it were unlevel with irritatingly squeaky floors.

The bunk beds in one room were so rickety and dangerous, we abandoned them after a few minutes for an ultra-firm futon.

The king-sized bed sleeps with your feet about three inches lower than your head.

The dining table also slants downhill.

This was a disappointing experience.

WE LOVED THIS PLACE! IT H...

WE LOVED THIS PLACE! IT HAS BEEN UPDATED SINCE WE FIRST STAYED THERE. THE CABIN HAS THE ROUGH BARK EXTERIOR. THE LIVING ROOM IS VERY LARGE. THERE IS A SEPERATE AREA WITH A PASS THROUGH THAT CAN BE USED AS A BEDROOM, WHICH WE DID WITH A BLOW UP BED. THE TUB IS SMALL BUT IT GETS YA CLEAN. THE CABIN SITS UP AT THE END OF HIGH STREET AND YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING. THERE IS A SLIDING DOOR AND BIG WINDOW I THIS ROOM. I WISH I HAD MY PICTURES TO SHARE WITH YOU. THE PLACE LOOKS SMALL. DO NOT BE FOOLED!THEY USED TO HAVE A BOOK THAT PEOPLE WOULD WRITE IN. VERY GOOD READING.
