Spring Ranch is one of the most treasured historic homes on the Northern California coast.
The ranch was settled in 1856 by William Kent. Kent made his fortune logging the virgin redwoods in the Big River Basin. To show off his wealth he built this grand carpenter gothic Victorian house with exquisite details which include:
12' ceilings downstairs and 10' ceilings upstairs
20' x 40' living room with redwood wainscoting, box-beam ceilings and large stone fireplace....perfect for family gatherings!
15' x 20' dining room with beveled glass china cabinet, 2' crown moldings and French chandeliers.
Kitchen with orginal clear redwood cabinets
Curved grand staircase
Wrap around front and side porch...great spot for naps and sun sets.
The home is very large and comfortable which makes it a unique place for families and friends to gather.
The 5,000 sf home is completely decorated with antiques. Every bed has a French quilt and flannel sheets.
Enjoy each others company around the large stone fireplace in the living room, before having dinner in the grand dinning room which sits 12 people.
The property is centrally located just one mile south of the picturesque village of Mendocino. From the house there are unobstructed views across the Spring Ranch Coastal Preserve to the ocean.
The property also has an additional guest house for rent with a large living room, stone fireplace, king redwood bed, newly renovated bath and ocean views.
There is also a large barn that can be rented for events and weddings.
There are trails that lead directly from the house through the 300 acre preserve to the bluffs or a secluded beach. From the bluffs you can watch, seals pupping in the summer, whales migrating in the fall and spring, or 30-foot waves cashing into the headlands during winter storms.
Come experience a unique piece of California history!

We are a family of two professionals and a daughter that live in Sausalito, CA. I grew up on the East Coast where it is typical to have an old large family vacation home on the ocean. We wanted to find a home like this near San Francisco where we could enjoy our family and friends. Spring Ranch has proven to be the perfect venue.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
When we go to Mendocino for a weekend or one night we feel like we truly got away. The drive to Mendocino through Anderson Valley is one of the most beautiful drives in all of the USA. The location of the house is ideally situated with open space in every direction and views of the ocean, and only one mile to the village of Mendocino.
Step back in time and appreciate the craftsmanship of the beauty of a classic Victorian. Sit in the large living room with family and friends drinking wine and play games in front of a roaring fire. Walk down to the ocean through the Spring Ranch open space preserve and enjoy one of the most pristine coast lines of Northern California.
We were lucky enough to have our wedding at Spring Ranch this May. It was the ideal location to have all of our wedding festivities.
We had the whole property for the weekend, including the Victorian house, the Honeymoon suite and the event barn. It was all wonderful. The house held our family and friends perfectly - we had 8 adults and 2 kids sleeping there. It had everything they needed for a comfortable stay, and more.
The Honeymoon suite was also incredibly lovely. Very comfortable and cozy for the couple. It was also an ideal spot for the bride to get ready. Again, had everything that we need and lots of little touches that contributed greatly to our weekend.
The event barn was also perfect. It was really easy to work with the owners, our event planner and the rental company to make sure that everything was set and ready to go for the big days (we held our rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception all on the property). It was beautiful, comfortable and fun. Being able to bring lots of our own decorations and alcohol was also a huge plus, and saved us a good deal of money.
We would highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a wedding venue. We found it was a great combination of natural beauty, comfort, and convenience. The owners are great to work with. And many of guests told us ours was one of the best weddings they had ever been to!
We initially found Spring Ranch on a search for places without too many rules, but we had never been to Mendocino. When we visited the ranch and Mendocino for the first time, we immediately fell in love with the location and everything about it. The owners were so easy to work with - we had a few special requests and they cheerfully worked with us on everything to make our stay, and those of our guests, a true pleasure. They even sent our deposit in full a day after we checked out!!
There are so many fantastic nearby guest accommodations for your wedding guests to choose from, such as vacation rental homes, quaint bed & breakfasts & even some mainstream hotels in Fort Bragg. The main house was a perfect place to house the bridal party (or family) to keep your most important people onsite. The genuine rustic character of the house is amazing with details down to the 100+ year old collection of books on the wall in the dining room. And the guest loft was beautifully appointed and a perfect place for the newlyweds to enjoy themselves (I especially enjoyed the towel warmer).
Nearby Mendocino is such a fun town and there are so many natural wonders from beaches to parks, redwoods & rivers. We've been there 3 times and still have much to explore.
Not only is this a great & versatile wedding site, it is also would be great for a family get together, romantic vacation, etc...we know we will be back.
We had a fantastic wedding weekend at Spring Ranch this fall. It is a beautiful, unique, rustically elegant venue that brought rave reviews form all our guests. Although it took a fair amount of planning since everything has to be brought to the barn, including a catering kitchen, Having the whole property for the weekend was wonderful. We had a casual barbecue the night before the wedding, and people enjoyed the upstairs of the barn with the treasure trove of collectibles and the great outdoor fireplace. We had our ceremony on the property with the fireplace as our backdrop, and the reception was inside the barn. It was great to be able to have everything in one place, and the farmhouse easily accommodated our immediate family. The honeymoon loft is romantic and well appointed, and the farmhouse is tastefully furnished. Having the property for the whole weekend allowed a relaxed event, with time to spend with everyone. Couldn't have imagined a better place for our wedding weekend.
I rented the Ranch for three days. We had our rehearsal, wedding and after party there
We were able to sleep our family in the main house and my husband and I slept in the loft.
Our guests loved the Barn, it was spacious and has so much history. At night, the sky is clear you can see every star in the sky. The hot tub was great too, very hot!
I highly recommend this venue for a wedding!
Fabulous! Our family of 15 celebrated the New Year during a period of 5 fun days at the Spring Ranch Victorian House. It is an amazing piece of historic property. We all enjoyed reading the available books to learn the history of the house and property with great interest.
We loved cooking in the large kitchen and were able to produce some delicious gourmet meals with the excellent provided cookware. All of us were able to sit around the table in the large dining room. It was good the disherwasher worked well because we had to run it after each meal!
The days were spent walking along the nearby coastline and we were able to spot whales bobbing out of the water in the distance. Wish we had brought binoculars with us. We also took drives to other nearby state parks to walk and view other parts of the beautiful coastline.
In the evenings, we all enjoyed the large living room playing games, making music (we brought a keyboard and various string instruments) and reading. There are shelves of old books that avid readers of the family found most interesting read. The fire was roaring in the stone fireplace keeping us warm in the cool evenings.
Some of the younger generation took advantage of using the hot tub and thought that was an added treat. Thanks for having a washer and dryer.
There is no central heating but each bedroom has a portable heater which none of us used because we were all so comfortably warm sleeping under the excellent down comforters. We all slept quite well.
This has been a fun and marvelous experience for our family and I highly recommend Spring Ranch for a tranquil vacation.
We recently rented the entire property including the main house, loft and large wedding barn for our August Wedding. It was such an amazing experience, if you are looking for a rustic wedding venue I recommend this place hands down. You get the whole property for three days for a flat fee (NO additional charges are tacked on later) which means you can have your wedding party or families stay on the property and make it an entire weekend getaway.
Regardless if you are renting the property for a wedding or a family reunion, the place is amazing. Its large living room provides a good place to congregate and relax. There is definitely something majestic the area. Remember though, this is an older Victorian home packed with history, you are not going to a Vegas Hotel, its rustic, thats the whole point of coming here and to Mendocino in general. We thought it was tranquil during our stay and then on Saturday, the perfect place for a big wedding party!
There is a large antique carriage barn on the property that is perfect for private functions including weddings.
The property can be rented as a wedding venue at a flat rate of $12,500. This rate includes 3 nights lodging. Please view www.spring-ranch.com for additional information.
