Why Jane Wolffe chose Eastern Shore Virginia

Baywatch House is located on Leonard Lane, one of the most serene, beautiful places on the island to live and visit. It is a private road with several beautiful homes, all on the water. Even though the home was built in 1986 as a private residence, over the last 15 years it has been completely remodeled by the original owners, who own and operate the Refuge Inn on the island. Master carpenters were hired to create this unique coastal style waterfront home.surrounded by nature.

What makes this house unique

Access to home is by private road with no through traffic. Spacious custom built home is adjacent to Oyster Bay, pony pasture and salt marsh estuary. Professionally decorated. Guests have use of a pool, hot tub, sauna and fitness room, 7 minutes away. Description of the house is for the upstairs only but the downstairs also can be added to the rental for an extra charge creating another 1700 square feet to enjoy.

Awesome views and location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week here over the Christmas holiday! The views from this house were amazing and especially enjoyed seeing the sunrise every morning. Jane was very accommodating in every way and very helpful, even got the ponies to graze in front of the house for us! The house was very clean and beds were very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

My extended family enjoyed a fabulous week at Baywatch House. The views of the Bay were so beautiful. Do yourselves a favor and watch the sunrise. We had ponies in our backyard. The boat dock was perfect for crabbing{ which we did}, and fishing . The interior was so pretty, and decorated perfectly. Every piece of decor was lovely. We will return next year!

Owner's Response: Gretchen, Thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with us and future guests....It is always nice to know what we are doing right and how we can improve. Most of all, reviews help other travelers learn more about the house and area which helps them decide where to spend their precious vacations... Hopefully you and your family caught some of those big crabs off the dock in front of the house. It was a great year for crabbing! Safe travels and return any time.....

Quiet Natural Beauty

  • 5 of 5

I cannot give enough praise to the owner of this house! She was more then accommodating... Letting us stay one night at the hotel which included breakfast when the weather did not allow us access to the home on the first night, bringing over kitchen supplies to allow us to cook fresh crabs and bake a dessert, and giving us access to a family dock a few houses down when ours was a little too wet to get to. Very grateful!

The house itself was beautiful, nicely decorated, had all the essentials, and was clean!

The area this house is located on the island allowed us front row access to the ponies! Many island visitors (as we learned from travelers on a boat tour) only get to view the ponies from afar if at all. At this house we had 2-4 ponies roaming and grazing in the front and back yards every day! One was even face to face with us on the front doorstep! We all really enjoyed them and the entire trip!

Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for a wonderful review.... We appreciated your family's patience and resilience in the face of high tides and an impending hurricane. Most families might have changed their dates but having made the most of it obviously resulted in a positive vacation for your outgoing and adventurous family. Catching that many crabs in an hour or so was a big surprise to me so now we can tell folks that catching crabs near the house in October is possible. October is my favorite time of the year on the island when the air is crisp, the temperatures pleasant, and the marsh grass highlighted with Thorough Glasswort. Glad the ponies decided to frequent the grazing areas near the house while you were there. They are always a welcome sight even when we see them every day! Hopefully you and your family will return soon. Life is good on Chincoteague....

Very nice house for a large family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

It is a beautiful house in a great location. We had the upstairs and downstairs for 6 adults and 2 kids. The kitchen was well stocked and it was nice that beach chairs and boogie boards were available for use. The only negative was that the beds weren't made and some sheets were missing when we arrived. However, Jane responded promptly with additional sheets. She also brought replacement light bulbs for a couple of burned out lamps.

Owner's Response: Thanks Brenda, We really appreciate your family's great energy and for leaving the house is such good condition. And thanks so much for writing this review as it helps future guests know more about the area and the house and validates the descriptions I provided for Homeaway, vacationrentals, and VRBO. Hopefully you will be able to decide soon when you want to return in 2016 as we are taking reservations for next summer already. Please relay our thanks to your family for taking care of the house for the future guests! All the best, Jane Wolffe Owner

Comfortable and beautiful house fully stocked

  • 5 of 5

The house is in upper Chincoteague. We have elementary-age children and this house is perfect for them. It had plenty of outdoor space for running around and exploring the Channel which is only a few inches deep during low tide and maybe up to a foot or so during high tide. So, it was also safe. The house was very clean. The house was very clean. I will say it was very clean. Since the owners of the house also own a hotel, they know how to stock it. It lacked only two small things...shampoo and a vegetable peeler. We bought and left a vegetable peeler. I was subsequently told that VRBO's do not provide shampoo, but it in our past experiences they do, so we were not prepared with our own shampoo. However, it was a very small inconvenience and when we asked the hotel that is affiliated with the house, they provided enough for us to get through the first few days. Everything in the house worked well except for some lightbulbs which need changing. Probably, I could have called the hotel about this and they would have replaced the bulbs, but, we were too busy on the island that I didn't have time. We survived just fine. We also used the gym at the hotel one morning. The house is a great size for a small family or two families. Each family may have its own level and its own kitchen and its own outdoor deck space. If you don't want the lower level, you can just rent the upper level and know that nobody will use the lower level. It is a great arrangement. The curtains were darker than at other VRBO's, so that helped block the morning sunlight a bit. I prefer roll-down shades and blackout curtains, but I have not found those at any VRBO. This house (Baywatch House) has thicker curtains than most and has plantation blinds. The beds are comfortable. It is quiet. You get to see ponies outside of your deck because neighbors living nearby own horses and let them roam in a fenced-in area near your rental. There is an oyster shell bed at the base of the dock that seems suspiciously-placed there for our children to enjoy. There is a hose to clean off your car after a day at the nice beach. So many things worth experiencing on the island....the Pony Center Pony Show for smaller children, Queen Hive Farm horseback riding lessons on Morgans, NASA Wallop's Island Visitor Center, Assateague Wildlife and Refuge Visitor Center, Assateague Beach (Tom's Cove) Visitor Center, Chincoteague Museum (excellent), Pocomoke's Discovery Center, Island Creamery (best ice cream

Owner's Response: This is a wonderful review and we really appreciate it as it helps us know what we are doing right and wrong! Reviews are also helpful to future guests as they usually explain many little things we do not think to put in the description. Baywatch House, after two years as a vacation rental, has never received a review, so it is especially nice to receive such a positive one. Many thanks to you and your family for caring for the house as it was your own...Our housekeepers appreciated the multiple comments about the cleanliness! I emphasize cleaning the House thoroughly and it helps that they do not have multiple homes to clean that day. Have great summer! Jane Wolffe Owner

This beautiful waterfront property is located on the island of Chincoteague VA. Although the island is small, it is a nature lover's paradise and very family friendly. It is adjacent to Assateague Island National Seashore, which boasts one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast and is home to the famous Chincoteague Ponies. Coastal Living magazine recently named Chincoteague the Happiest Town in the USA. There are numerous local activities such as boating, fishing, birding, bicycling, beachcombing, as well as many art galleries, decoy carver studios, unique shopping, fabulous restaurants, and access to local fresh seafood.

The Town of Chincoteague provides public access to waterfront parks which include docks for fishing and boat launching, a children's playground, tennis courts, a skateboard park, covered pavilions for group picnics, and several picnic tables at each park.

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance and the Chincoteague Island Theatre Group sponsor top notch, art related events throughout the year.

Some of the festivals such as the Seafood Festival in May, Pony Penning and Swim in July, and Oyster Festival in October bring thousands of visitors so book your rentals early for those....

Other Activities: miniature golf, unique shopping, fine dining, birding, wildlife viewing
