Join us at our home in Freeport for Holiday shopping, special events, or a peaceful getaway with your family and friends. Upcoming events in Freeport include L.L. Bean's Northern Lights Celebration and Sparkle Weekend; visit the Narrow Gauge Railroad’s Polar Express and beautifully decorated Victoria Mansion in Portland; and plenty of shopping in Freeport's many unique stores and outlets, and the Old Port waterfront district in Portland.
Our peaceful and secluded year-round oceanfront property is located just 6 miles from downtown Freeport and 30 minutes from Portland on the end of a private peninsula with large windows overlooking the water. The property has been in our family for three generations and while the original log cabin is no longer with us, the updated post and beam house offers modern amenities and comfortable furnishings. The northern view looks across the water towards Wolf's Neck Woods State Park and Wolf's Neck Farm; and the southern exposure offers views of some of the Casco Bay islands.
Our unique location and wrap-around deck allows our guests the opportunity to appreciate their morning coffee while watching the beautiful sunrises, or a glass of wine while enjoying the amazing sunsets. Kayakers welcome our close proximity to the water and access to the bay. For those with small boats and outboard motors, we have an outhaul mooring which allows greater access to enjoy Casco Bay. Our guests have explored the islands and inlets, motored to area restaurants and marinas, plus enjoyed greater fishing opportunities.
There are many things to see and do that are a short drive from the house. Treat yourself to a dinner cruise on Casco Bay, shop L.L. Bean and the Freeport outlets,
enjoy a performance at the Maine State Summer Music Theatre or a free summer outdoor concert at L.L. Bean, visit the Admiral Peary Arctic Museum or the Museum of Art on the grounds of Bowdoin College, visit the local farmers markets, or explore the Maine coast.
If you prefer a more relaxed vacation, you can spend many pleasurable hours observing wildlife on the Maine coast - ducks of all kinds, Canadian geese, ospreys, great blue herons, bald eagles, and harbor seals. Have fun climbing over rocky ledges and exploring tidal pools that contain tiny fish, crabs, and other sea creatures. Or, you can just relax in the sun and read a good book while enjoying the view.
We invite you to stay at our little slice of heaven on the Maine coast.
Written in our guest book: Great house, amazing snow, lovely views! I never want to leave -- five star accomodations!!! Had a great time!
This is a wonderful home right on the bay. Lovely accomodations, plenty of privacy and close to some of the best shopping, restairanst and scenery in the world. Just 10 minutes into Freeport and another 20 minutes from Portland. The owners were very helpful and the neighbors were great. Can't wait to get back
The description of the property was true to it's word and the amenities were above and beyond our expectations. A warm cozy cabin, perfect for our large family to gather over Veterans Day weekend. Great location and plenty of space for us to spread out. Our children loved exploring the wooded area near the house & collecting treasures while the tide was low. Very well maintained and great customer service! I would absolutely recommend this property to my family & friends, this experience has definitely swayed me to book more frequently on VRBO instead of big hotel chains. We received every comfort of home, away from our home in Newport, RI.
During our visit we explored Portland, downtown Freeport & a day trip to Boothbay Harbor- very easy drives from this location, even with our 1yr & 3yr old children.
This is a perfect home-away-from-home! If you are traveling to the Freeport/Portland area, and want to be near the water and away from the crowds, then you will want to stay here. The kitchen is stocked with everything a cook needs, and there is plenty of bottled water. The accommodations are perfect and the view is spectacular.
We have stayed here a number of times over the past 15 years during all seasons. The house is beautifully situated at the end of the peninsula. It has everything you need for a getaway vacation. close enough to town but far enough away, caring and next door owners. Our only challenge was no dishwasher, but now we are prepared for that!
What's better than staying at a house on the Maine coast in July? Maybe owning the house. But if that's not possible, rent this one. The house is very comfortable and is surrounded by water. Be advised, however, that the tides are fairly drastic, leaving exposed mud on the Eastern side of the house. Swimming is very doable during high tide, but getting into the water at low tide is impossible on the Eastern side and difficult at best on the Western side.
The owners were very accommodating, but perhaps a little too relaxed about making sure there was enough propane in the tank, which ran out midway through dinner one night. C'mon guys, get a spare tank! Also, the electric range is a bit finicky, with burners sometimes shutting down for no apparent reason. And if you want to make pancakes for breakfast, be sure and bring your own pan or griddle.
That being said, I'd stay there again (if the owners will let me after this review). It's all about location, and this property has it.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this house, and we very much recommend it! We stayed for two weeks with our 7 month old baby and my parents. The house was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The owners were even thoughtful enough to leave fresh picked flowers and strawberries for our arrival. The house is located down a private drive and there is water and beautiful views in both the front and back of the house. There's also a lovely little deck and gas grill - a fabulous way to spend the afternoon, if you ask me! There's a great spot to launch your kayak just feet from the house, and it really is a gorgeous spot to explore by water. This is also a great location to stay in if you're interested in day trips along the Maine coast - we drove to Boothbay Harbor, Kennebunkport, and Old Orchard Beach. Plus, you have the Freeport outlets and nice dining spots just about a 10-15 minute drive away. This is a great place to enjoy the beautiful Maine outdoors, but they also have wifi in case you need it. My whole family hopes to return!
