Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank You Patrick!! for making our stay in Paradise so enjoyable, all your recommendations were spot on, we couldn't have asked for a better guide, to send us on all the activities that we we really wanted to do. From the hanging bridges to Skytrek everything you advised was outstanding. The house was perfect, clean and gorgeous with lots of room for our group of 6 then 9 as the other group arrived. I've never seen views like what your home has to offer. The breakfasts were healthy and sooooo delicious with just the right amount of indulgence. Just outstanding in every way.

just as good as it looks online

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year's in 2006. We had two families: 4 adults, 6 older children (high school and college). The listing is very true to what you find when you get there. The owner is next door to the property, and he is as helpful as the best concierge in the finest hotel anywhere. You are within 5 minutes to 1.5 hours of almost any activity you can think of. The only negative thing to say is that we took so many digital photos that 8 months later we are still editing and organizing them!!

AMAZING house!

  • 5 of 5

This house was just so fantastic. Patrick was super helpful and made it extremely easy to plan activities once we got there. I am a crazy planner when it comes to vacations but it was so nice I didn't have to worry about booking our activities beforehand. When we got to the house, Patrick set us up with a horseback ride for the same day. It was unreal - we had the best time ever with those horses, and the family that owned them was beyond nice. They also have great food. For dinner we went to Tinajas - we actually went there two or three times because we thought it was delicious and it was pretty close by.

The second day we did the hanging bridges (which was cool, but I probably wouldn't do it again) and zip lining which was so so fun. My boyfriend & I had done zip lining a bunch of times and only went because my parents wanted to go, and WOW it was the most insane zip line I've ever been to - I'm scared to heights and it was high up there... so glad I did it though, even though the first zip line almost caused me a heart attack, ha!

The third day we did ATV'ing which was awesome and I'd highly recommend it. I had never driven one before but it was a blast! We then went to get great casados in town (place was recommended by Patrick).

Onto the house..... It was very breathtaking. The pictures don't do it justice, the views were incredible. It was only 4 of us but the house was HUGE. You could definitely fit a lot of people here and be very comfortable. Each bedroom had a bathroom with a shower. There is a separate pool house with a hot tub and a bunch of different games (ping pong, poker, etc), which was so cool. Everything was super clean!

I can't leave this review without mentioning the daily breakfasts that Patrick's wife makes. HOLY. It was delicious, and something different everyday. I dream about that breakfast, seriously so good.

Thank you Patrick! We loved everything and had the best time.

Didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic start to our Costa Rica adventure and as it turned out, our favorite part of the trip. Just walk down the drive for the best hikes around...head towards Lake Cote or the Eco Lodge. Patrick's advice was spot on with our dining at the Gingerbread and Tanajas (on the shore of Lake Arenal at sunset!) restaurants being spectacular food and second only to his own cooking for us at the villa. He and his wife, Elisa, go above and beyond to make you comfortable and enjoy the most of your time in the area! Wonderful stay and couldn't be better.

Pampered, Private, Pura Vida – Perfecto!

  • 5 of 5

From the first contact with Patrick we could tell this is an exceptional place to stay. He is the most responsive home owner and host; paying attention to every detail. I usually spend hours researching side trips, restaurants, etc prior to vacation. It was so relaxing to have Patrick as our personal adventure planner, superb chef and before you leave, you’ll feel like a friend. He sat down with us and visited about our to-do wish list, personally making reservations for us and drawing excellent maps of how to get there. (He also offers transportation if you prefer) What a treat to walk to the ticket counter or into a restaurant and simply say “Patrick at the Sunset called about us” and be immediately handed our tickets or seated at our table. Whether staying as a couple or a group you have the whole house to yourself. There are six big bedrooms, each having its own private bath. Incredible views out all of the windows, outdoor patio that is as big as a dance floor with panoramic views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. Breakfast is included; plentiful and delicious. The kitchen is very well stocked, you can cook if you like – but we strongly suggest that you let Patrick pamper you with at least one of his homecooked meals. The price is very reasonable and it’s so nice to have a freshly prepared dinner (with dessert!) waiting when you return from a long day of activities. They shop, prepare, serve the food and clean up afterward; all you have to do is enjoy. He and his staff make it the most pleasurable, carefree vacation. We were so spoiled! Whatever size group or pace of vacation you are looking for he can help tailor it to be memorable and fun. Or you can simply enjoy the spacious, privacy of the home and feel comfortable that Patrick and his staff are nearby if you need anything. The temps were perfect and we had NO mosquitoes! We enjoyed ziplining, hanging bridges, hiking up to Cote Lake (right by the house), therapeutic massage (conveniently came to the house), horseback riding, The Gingerbread restaurant, Crocodile River Float (on the way to airport but Patrick made arrangements for us) and simply sitting on the deck or in the hot tub visiting with our friends. Our only problem was that we ran out of time! We are already looking forward to visiting again!

Great Host, Beautiful Home, & Memorable Experience

  • 5 of 5

The “Red Sunset” was a lovely, comfortable, and beautiful rental home, perhaps one of the best in Costa Rica. As soon as our family came driving up the hill with Jamie, our wonderful driver, we were overcome by its extravagant presence. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Patrick, our superb host, who brought us on a tour through the palatial residence. The house was elegant and lovely, boasting a breathtaking view of the lush land and an old-world charm. The dining room, including the entire home, perfectly accommodated our family of fifteen, consisting of six adults, seven teenagers, and two children. The bedrooms were spacious and the air conditioners kept the house cool. The living room had a splendid library, containing hundreds of books that were signed, within the span of five decades, by a thoughtful, soul-searching family member of Patrick’s. We loved relaxing in the hot tub and adored the pool table. Although we appreciated the indoor pool, we were a bit disappointed since it was sometimes too cold to swim in. Still, we amused ourselves playing pool, cards on the poker table, and board-games.

Every morning, Patrick’s lovely wife, Elisa, and her sweet helper prepared us a (complimentary!) breakfast fit for royalty. The food was so lavish and abundant—we were so stuffed that we didn’t even want lunch! Elisa was so gracious, accommodating a member of our family with dietary restrictions by providing delicious substitutes. She even prepared some foods separately for him, demonstrating her care and consideration. The fruit smoothies were delightful and the variety of meals was overwhelming. We looked forward for the delectable breakfast every morning—it was one of the best parts of our trip. Patrick kindly advised us about the best tourist attractions and we had a blast on a safari, exploring the natural wonders of Costa Rica. Our host was also quick to respond to our needs: whether we needed paper towels or wanted “pipas” to drink, he was there. We also loved our drives with Jamie: the sensation of the warm breeze, the sight of horses and cows grazing, the scent of tropical flowers, and the taste of cold coconut water were glorious. (Jamie’s awesome driving gave us a thrill, too.)

We made beautiful memories and had a wonderful time in Costa Rica, thanks to our wonderful host, Patrick, his hospitable wife, Elisa, and their magnificent rental home. God Bless!

A special shout out to Hunter, Patrick’s little boy, for his vivacity and cheer.

¡Pura Vida!
