We spent Fourth of July week at Smooth Sailing, and it was so nice! Quiet, charming town, real "Americana." Cute, comfortable, clean, well-equiped home. Watched fireworks from the front yard. The beach is so nice and clean, and not crowded. The owners are very hospitable, too, and will answer all your questions.
The Irish pub around the corner is fine, and we really liked the Chesapeake seafood/jazz place. The food was really good, and the service was friendly, but slow. Just sit back and relax.
Be prepared for the $12 bridge toll coming from Norfolk. A small price to pay for such a nice place! We drove through Virginia Beach and didn't like it as much as Cape Charles.
We stayed at Do-Little Cottage for a long weekend with our family to celebrate my husband's retirement! We loved the home - lots of character and everything we needed was right there. We did some cooking and enjoyed using the well-stocked kitchen. The house is located within walking distance of the beach and the shopping area of Cape Charles, so we parked the truck and walked to see the sights. We enjoyed being there for the Tall Ships Festival. We also watched the kite surfers down at the beach. It was a great time of family fun and relaxation - we hope to go back soon!
The Hudsons from Henrico, VA
When I contacted Sam the owner he was quite helpful in answering all of my questions about this property before we booked. The property manager was easy to contact and was located a few block away; picking up the key was a snap.
The house was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. The linens were good quality and the beds were comfortable. It would however be more convenient if the convertible bed was in the office/den and not in the living-room.
My Mother who is elderly loved to sit on the front porch and enjoy the breeze. The towns’ people and neighbors are very friendly and would always say hello to her.
The beach is lovely, the sand is white and soft and the beach if family friendly. There are quaint shops, nice restaurants – we ate at The Shanty and Kelly’s Pub while we were vacationing.
We would love to go back to “Do Little Cottage.”
My family spent the week of august 13-20, 2011 at this fabulous little place and
when we first got to town we were a little skeptical because we had never been
to Cape Charles but after 1 day we knew we had hit gold! This is absolutely the
BEST place for families with little kids! The beach has no undertow and is
shallow enough for kids to play...even my little 2 year old! We went fishing and
crabbing on the pier and were able to make crab cakes twice from what we caught!
The house is stocked with essentials and also has 3 beach chairs, beach towels and an
umbrella! The easy 2 block walk to the beach was great and only 1 block to get
to restaurants and other shops! It is the perfect location! There's also a Food
Lion and McDonalds just less than 2 miles! There's nothing to dislike about this
little place or the charming town of Cape Charles!
Definitely try the restaurant Aqua (it's a short drive (maybe 2 miles) but worth it!)
Smooth Sailings is a great place to stay. The house is clean and comfortable and well stocked. We didn't have to buy much in the way of staples. It was very quiet and we enjoyed sitting on front porch anytime of day. The people of Cape Charles are extremely friendly always saying hi and smiling. They also seem to love dogs. We walked to beach everyday although too cool to swim, but girls did get plenty of sun. First night we got take out from Kelly's Gingernut Pub and ate at several other places. Breakfast at Rayfields Pharmacy was great. One of the best was Sting Ray's about 10 miles away on Rt. 13. It's deceiving because it's part of a gas station complex. Seafood was great and servings huge. We went back for breakfast next day and to do some souvenir shopping in the shops. Krista at Chesapeake Bay Properties was very helpful. We will definitely be back there again.
We stayed in this charming house in October 2010 and I highly recommend it. It is clean, comfortable, and a short walk from anything you'd like to do in this equally charming little town. I can't wait to go back!
