Recently redecorated to celebrate the colors of the Caribbean, Villa Palmira, has four bedrooms and three baths, plus an outdoor shower and backyard garden with covered patio. It is in a delightful gated community and near many tourist attractions including the El Yunque Rain Forest Park, Old San Juan, off shore islands, Palmas Del Mar Resort and Golf Courses. It's a great location for both couples and families.
Villa Palmira is owned by Jim Meighan of New Durham, New Hampshire. The house has been owned by the Meighan family since 2006, when it was purchased as a vacation home. We redecorated and modernized the property to serve as a vacation rental. The home is decorated so that you'll always feel like you're in the tropics. I'd like our guests to have the unique and memorable experience that only Puerto Rico can offer. We want them to say, it's been wonderful to be in Puerto Rico...whether they relaxed on the beach reading a book, or spent everyday sightseeing.
'A Puerto Rican vacation is wonderful in many ways. The weather is wonderful and dependable. The environment is both relaxing and stimulating. There's always something new to do or discover. The island is beautiful, and the Puerto Rican people are friendly and helpful. Go once and you'll always want to go back!'
Jim Meighan purchased this house in 2006
This is a great vacation home for folks who like nature and want a non-resort experience. Villa Palmira is in a small beachfront community that is both quiet and private. Few people are found on the beach which is amply shaded by a wonderful palm grove. After you leave our 500 yard beach, you can continue on north along a lovely 'State Park' type beach, which is little used and buffered from noise and crowds by the park lands, for 1.5 miles to the little fishing village of Punta Santiago, where local seafood restaurant are found. To the South is a wonderful nature center, with shady walks for hot afternoons and a glorious hill top view of our beach. The nature center offers kayak rentals and access to hours of kayaking along a self-guilder route. You see tropical birds, turtles, iguana and much more, on this safe easy to take paddle. Only ten minutes away is Humacao, with American Style shopping and restaurants. 15 mimutes away is the Palmas Del Mar resort. We give you access to its famous beach club, disounts on golf and tennis. You can also visit it's beach free of charge or stop by any of its 15 restaurants and bars. The resort also has a Casino, often sponsors free cultural events such as Jazz night under the stars. A half hour to the north is El Junque Rain Forest Park, run by the US National Park system. Fajardo,25 minutes as away, is the ferry port to Culebra and Vieques, making day trips to those island easy. The world famous bioluminescent bay in Fajardo is easily visited by Kayak with nightly guided trips. Just up the road in Naguabo, you can also hire a local captain to take you to near by Monkey Island, for a half day of snorkeling (feed tropical fish right out of your hand!) and viewing the Rhesus Monkeys on shore. We also give you our 30 day-tip guide, written by us to make your adventures safe and easy.
Here's the most important thing you need to know about Puerto Rico: It is both safe and friendly. Thousands of American's own second homes in Puerto Rico. Our family has purchased four vacation homes in Puerto Rico since 2000. We, and many others like us, have invested in Puerto Rico because it is very much like an American state. The roads are modern and paved; hospitals as staffed with Doctors trained in American Medical Schools; you can shop at Sam's Club, or Costco or Walmart if you chose. The primary language is Spanish, but many Puerto Ricans are bi-lingual, and many look enjoy speaking English with their American guests. Certainly there is crime in Puerto Rico. (Do you live somewhere where there is never any crime?) However, we have more than 1000 guest parties at our four homes and no one has experienced a crime. No one has been insulted or hassled or accosted by the native population. This is in part because Puerto Rico is part of the United States. It has a representative in Congress. They are citizens of the US and as a result, more Puerto Ricans live in the States than in Puerto Rico. Almost every resident of Puerto Rico has an uncle or cousin in the US. If not a bother or son. Hundreds of thousands have served in the US military. They are proud to be Americans and they like Americans from the States. So when you go to Puerto Rico, expect to be treated well. You will be.

My week with my family, at Villa Palmira, was exceptionall delightful. The house was perfect for our needs (we had a house full). The beach was fun for my little grandchildren. It is shallow for a long way out. The nearby nature trails in the Humacao Nature Preserve were very interesting. A big bonus were the friendly neighbors. They helped me enormously with our surroundings. I felt that they would welcome me back. The information Jim provided was useful, and we were able to get to places with ease. I can't wait for my next visit!
My family and friends (10) stayed here for a week and had a fabulous time. The house is beautiful and as advertised 38 seconds from the beach. We timed it ;) Ken the house manager was very helpful. Jim the owner prepared a fantastic info package of things to do in the area. We'll be coming back.
Our family of 5 (parents and 3 adult children) stayed at Villa Palmira for a week in May 2014. We were very happy with the choice of Villa Palmira and it's location in Humacao. Humacao was a great location for accessing the eastern end of PR, with an easy drive (50 minutes) to San Juan as well. The neighborhood in which the house is located is lovely, with essentially a private beach just a short walk from the house. We enjoyed the waves at the beach...the water is not deep and there was no undertow. There's also a beautiful nature preserve a short walk down the beach, with both walking/biking trails and kayaking available.
The house is nice, but not luxury (if you want stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, this may not be the right home for you). We found the furnishings and bedding to be very comfortable. The house has A/C and fans, but 2 of the ceiling fans were in need of repair. There were portable fans available as well, so the broken ceiling fans did not negatively impact our stay. The owner of the house is very responsive and helpful. This is a nice, comfortable, Puerto Rican vacation home, perfect for people who are interested in spending time outdoors and experiencing a local Puerto Rican community.
I recently stayed at Villa Palmira with 5 female friends and had a wonderful
time. We had a great time at
your house and thoroughly enjoyed staying there. We enjoyed the beach and
found the waters quite
warm, the bottom sandy and the conditions safe and quite swimmable. The
beach also has a lovely view
out toward Vieques Island in the distance and Monkey Island closer to the
shore. While staying at the
house, we ventured out quite a bit for shopping and a variety of
activities. One of the most memorable
was a trip to Monkey Island for snorkeling among schools of tropical fish.
Our guide was Captain Paco,
a local fellow, who is quite a character. Very cool trip! We also did the Bioluminescent Bay tour, an absolute must!! The kayaking part can be a little tricky because it is very dark and you are paddling through a very narrow area that leads to the BioBay, but still worth it. We also took the ferry to Culebra Island. The ferry ride was comfortable, fairly quick and very cheap, well worth it to see Flamenco Beach! Absolutely gorgeous, but a little to crowded for me!
Love Puerto Rico and I have traveled there by myself and never once did I feel unsafe. You just have to be a smart traveler, as you would when you travel anywhere!

>Paco. He's a great guy! We enjoyed the snorkeling and decided to
>make a second trip the the island during our stay. We enjoyed our
>time at the Palmas Del Mar Beach Club and used guest passes for the

>houses are extremely inviting and comfortable.
If you want the real feel of Puerto Rico living this is it. My wife and I traveled here for the best Thanksgiving yet with my 2 children, 12 and 16, along with my mother and her friend. The house was was beautiful, comfortable and clean and had every thing we could possibly need. The neighbor is great and the people that live there are very friendly.
The beach is a wonderful natural sandy beach and the oceans gentle rolling waves are relaxing yet large enough to provide fun for the kids and me. We took some amazing sunrise pictures and wonderful walks on the virtually private beach. We also discovered a trail from the neighborhood into the adjacent nature preserve and stumbled on some old WWII lookout post on the cliff with some amazing views of Viequez island.
We have been to Puerto Rico numerous times in the past but this is the best location we have found yet. The location offers you the feel of being on a tropical island while giving you access to all the "convenience of home" with it proximity to Humacao.
Thank you Jim an Marilyn for sharing this amazing place with us and we will be returning again.
A wonderful natural setting, with local color, views of the Caribbean and great swimming just 150 feet from your door.Located in a private, gated community, Villa Palmira, offers miles of beach combing. On one side of the Villa Palmira beach, a nature center provides hiking trails and kayaking. To the north a Government Park limits access to the beach and stretches more than a mile to Punta Santiago, a quaint beach town with nightlife and a number of well-regarded native seafood restaurants. A newly opened water park at Punta Santiago Public Beach can be reached via a short stroll north along the beach. The swimming is safe and the ocean floor sandy. Children will find the edge waters shallow and inviting. Adults can swim out a few hundred feet for deeper waters and still find a sandy bottom
