The quintessential cabin – with modern amenities

  • 5 of 5

Right in the center of hiking, climbing, fishing & zip-lining attractions at the KY Red River Gorge: A private setting under trees next to small lake, serene for all nature buffs. Individual and homely cabin with all amenities, nicely kept incl. well equipped kitchen. Decent groceries in dry county nearby, better options a good half hour away on the Parkway. Perfect location for two couples or with grown children, definitely stay longer than just a weekend!

Very nice. Quiet, peaceful and soothing.

•Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc ?

Yes. All the information was good. I would like to have also had the check out details ahead of time. The instructions said to leave the thermostat set at 80 deg. The sign on the thermostat said to turn it off in the summer.

In general, however, we had a nice relaxing time and everything suited us very well. It is likely we will return some time.

•Was the property clean and well-maintained ?

The property was clean. The refrigerator had a few items like milk and catsup, etc. left over from the previous guests. We left them there when we left as we weren't sure if we were suppose to dispose of them.

The upstairs bathroom shower drained slowly and the upstairs toilet had a slow leak which made it re-fill several time during the night.

•Did the owner provide good customer service ?

Yes, but we did not require any assistance. Everything was as expected.

•Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives ?

Yes. No hesitation but I would mention the things above. No were no big deal to us.

•What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike near by ?

We liked hiking and visited several trails. We also enjoyed the lake.

Great Location; Okay Property

  • 3 of 5

Stayed here with 4 other buddies for our yearly guys weekend in Red River Gorge. This property is right on a nice little lake which was definitely the highlight for us and one of the primary reasons I would recommend it. Overall, it is pretty clean so there weren't really any complaints there (except for an old coffee filter with coffee grinds that was left in the coffee maker when we arrived). However, while the property is not impossible to find, it's not easy. Even with the owner's website's directions, it may take a few tries before you stumble upon it. At certain points off of the main roads per the directions, there are posts with signs for different cabins and yurts. The owner of this cabin does not have a sign on these posts for Hillbilly Heaven. This is easy, inexpensive, and important to do so I recommend this. There is a picnic table up on the deck which broke while we were sitting on the bench part. Not a big deal and the owner said he would fix it in the coming day or two. There are a couple of grills. The one on the deck - most convenient to the inside of the cabin and the kitchen - was a mess. It needed some serious cleaning and you could tell the propane tank was almost empty. When making breakfast in the morning, we noticed it took the oven and the stove considerable time to heat up before being able to cook anything. MOST importantly, the refrigerator did not cool very well at all. It was a struggle to keep all of our food and drinks cold. The place does not need top of the line appliances; just appliances that work well. I would recommend this property if you want a cabin on the water, but I would highly recommend to the owner to 1) making it effortless finding the property, and 2) making the investment in making sure all appliances work well.

Enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was clean, very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Our family enjoyed fishing and swimming in the pond. The wifi worked well, although as mentioned the cell service isn't good. We enjoyed the campfire each night and the benches were helpful. Be sure you use bug repellent because the mosquitos are hungry. Sunday morning, a couple of our family were by the pond and heard a big splash across the pond. A deer had jumped in the pond for her morning swim. Pretty cool!! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

Peaceful escape!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was super cozy and we loved all of the outdoor areas too. The interior was clean and ready for us to throw our things down and go play. The area has so much to offer...we hiked, fished, zip lined, and went canoeing. We truly didn't want to leave and are already planning a return trip.
