We had the van for a week, gave us an amazing way of discovering Maui almost like locals. The pleasure of just going around and deciding day to day where you want to be and sleep is amazing. The van is very well equipped and gives you a lot of freedom.
Also the owners are super nice and will give you great advice on how to visite the island safely and to it’s fullest!
Would definitely do again! If you are hesitant don’t be, you will not regret it!
Happy Hermit crabs van glamped around Maui
We had originally booked a condo for our 9 day stay on Maui. When it fell through 3 weeks before leaving, we thought about cancelling our trip; however, when we found this camper van, we decided to give it a try. Boy, are we glad we did! We got to see SO much more of the island than we would have otherwise, and for a lot less money. Actually, in 9 days we circumnavigated the island and had plenty of time to see and do everything we wanted, including two nights in Haleakala. The owner, Rudy, picked us up at the airport and dropped us off when done. He was an excellent host, very accommodating and eager to please. He knows the island well, so was able to give us great local information about where to go, and how to get there. He occasionally uses the van, or one like it, himself, so knew exactly what it needed to be independent and comfortable. He did a great job with the custom cabinetry and flooring. It is well stocked with everything we could want, including snorkel gear, cooking and cleaning supplies, a cooler, even a portable shower. Once we stocked it with food we were set for the trip. Most things were new and in good shape, although we were glad we brought our personal inflatable backpacking mattresses for our 50+ year-old bodies. With that said, this is not for everyone. It is hard work at times, with finding good sites to park for the night, cooking and cleanup, cold showers, keeping things tidy and organized, etc. Its kind of like car "glamping". But if you are willing to be a bit like a hermit crab and take your home with you wherever you go, the freedom and independence this offers is well worth it.
