The villa is cleaned daily throughout. The housekeeper and cook live at the property in their own accommodation attached to the side of the villa and the remaining staff attend daily.
Ceiling fans are provided in every room and in most cases, after an initial blast of A/C in the bedrooms at night, the ceiling fans are a much better option... the air conditioning gets quite cold whereas the ceiling fans maintain a more constant cool temperature!
We have listened to our previous guests and taken on board their recommendations to improve the villa. In June 2015 we installed an Air Conditioning unit in the lounge which is available for use during the evening. We had previously only used fans as there are many windows in this room and some large vents through the brick but we have closed these off using additional window frames to prevent the cold air from the A/C unit escaping. The unit in this room is a timed unit to work between 5.30pm and 11.30pm as it is not needed during the day. The windows are opened each morning and the use of the 3 ceiling fans are very effective. The added benefit of the A/C in the lounge in the evening is a welcome upgrade, particularly for families with young children who spend more time at the villa than the beach, especially at night.
In addition to the 34ft private swimming pool, the grounds comprise of 2 Ambalama's... outdoor covered seating areas! In the main garden the Ambalama overlooks the pool and garden and has 2 ceiling fans and lighting and 2 power sockets. Inside the Ambalama is a huge cushioned seating area which can seat a minimum of 12 people or 6 comfortably lounging/lying down! An outdoor dining table and chairs are also provided for those wonderful meals overlooking the landscaped gardens and pool. One guest described this area as stepping onto the set of Alice in Wonderland having drank the shrinking potion! At the rear of the villa, accessed through the double folding doors of the lounge, the French windows in the master bedroom or the kitchen is a 2nd Ambalama with 3 further wooden recliner chairs. Both area's have lighting and ceiling fans and power sockets.
The private 34ft swimming pool is 6ft in the deep end and 3ft in the shallow end and is professionally cleaned. Available for you to use by the pool are 4 plastic sun loungers, 2 hammocks and 3 wooden recliner chairs.

Daisy Lanka is a family owned property, which was renovated and furnished for our own use. We have carefully peeled back the layers and rebuilt the villa starting from scratch. Living in Abu Dhabi, Sri Lanka is a short 4 hour flight and having holidayed in Sri Lanka every year since 2005, we finally took the plunge and bought a property in 2011. We had travelled around many areas of Sri Lanka and fell in love with Mirissa as soon as we arrived there and knew this was the place for us. We hope you will find that it has a slightly more personal touch. We have a 17 year old daughter who has traveled with us throughout our many visits to Sri Lanka as well as a 24 year old son, both of which absolutely love Mirissa, the house and the area, but specifically, the pool & the beach!
Tracy & Andy Bishop purchased this villa in 2011
Whilst most of Sri Lanka is very basic, we purposefully designed and renovated Daisy Lanka to provide a luxury villa at all levels! The villa is truly a 5 minute from the stunning golden sands of Mirissa beach, where surfing and body boarding lays await in abundance.
Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is one of the most exciting water activities you can do in Sri Lanka during your holiday.
Mirissa is the best place to start your whale and dolphin watching tour in Sri Lanka. In warm Indian ocean you can see Blue whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, sometimes Killer whales, and Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso's dolphins and Striped dolphins. Sometimes you can see turtles and various fish species, for example Bluefin tuna and flying fish.
Once we had decided to buy a property and decided on the South Coast, the rest came pretty easily. We saw many houses but this was the first and we instantly fell in love with it. Our Realtor told us to visit the beach in the evening and we felt like we had been transported to the set of Peter Pan as we walked along the beach. We had never seen fireflies before and there they were, dancing before our eyes, floating around, so colourful & majestic! You really have to see them to believe them! The relaxed atmosphere and the fact that the beach was totally non-commercial both during the day and at night made us feel a million miles from home. The palm fringed beach with guest houses and bars set back on the beach almost made us feel like we were on a deserted island. We were sold!

Once Again, Thank you all very much for taking care of us during our second stay at Daisy Lanka. Maybe you will see us again next year! Thanks again.
Thank you all so much for our amazing stay at the end of Sri Lankan tour. The house was perfect - the style, decor, facilities, staff.... All brilliant. So close to the beach but far enough away to be quiet & relaxing. The pool is great, the garden pavilion a great place to relax away from the sun. We've been to so many places in Asia but Daisy Lanka really was brilliant. Thanks for a great holiday.
Mirissa and its breathtaking sandy beach pretty much transforms your dreams and visions of a tropical paradise into an everyday reality.
Located close to the Southern tip of the Island of Sri Lanka and only about 200 km from the Equator, this secluded crescent shaped beach is the perfect place to sit back, relax and forget about all the hustle and bustle of your other life that’s a million miles away.
This small sandy tropical beach boasts some of Sri Lanka’s best and most stunning sunsets and sunrises.
All the Guest Houses in Mirissa are set back from the actual beach giving you the impression that you are on a deserted palm fringed island. Every now and again the silence is broken by the sound of a coconut falling on the sand or a chilled beer being opened by someone further up the beach.
Mirissa Beach is rapidly becoming a popular Surfer hangout during the months of November to March when it’s the rainy season on the East coast.
Whale watching in Mirissa
Word has reaches us that many people visiting Sri Lanka have been taking side trip to Mirissa to do some Whale and Dolphin watching . A Company based in Mirissa reports to be able to introduce you to Spinner, Striped, Bottlenose and Spotted Dolphins.
Large whales are also seen in the waters off Mirissa. I suspect everything is seasonal so its best to give them a call and see what they have to offer. There are a few companies to choose from so spend a few minutes deciding before you commit to a whale watching in Mirissa trip.
If you are an early riser , now by early we mean 6am , why not take a short walk to Mirissa Port to see the fish being unloaded from the boats and trawlers.
This is ground zero for the local fishing community where people come from all over the South of the country to buy. It is not unusual to see large sharks being hauled off boats that have just come back from a 2 week excursion to the water close to the Maldives.
You will see people haggling and arguing over the price of some of the strangest or most valuable seafood creatures available in this region. Bring a camera to capture the mayhem but be careful where you point it. It’s a place of intense business and the locals are not there to pose for the tourists.
West of Mirissa you will find the small fishing town and railway hub of Welligama . It’s a 15 minutes bus ride ( 4 KM ) and getting lost in the back streets of this small market town can be fun . Take a stroll along the sea front and watch the fishermen dragging their boats up on shore or selling their fish in their small shops. There is a bank, shops, & Market.
The Port of Galle ( Galla ) is about another 30 minutes further on towards Colombo . If this is your main destination be sure to get a bus with a seat available or you will be standing all the way with a million other people.
Galle has one of the most beautiful old Dutch / Portuguese forts in all of South East Asia. It is a port town and there is a thriving neighbourhood with the fort walls . Once inside you can walk around the old fort and get lost amongst all the small streets. Grab something to eat or quench your thirst with a orange coloured King Coconut and sit on the old walls and look out over the ocean.
Galle is famous for its lace and you will not get more than 100 M before some old lady tries to sell you some. Spend an hour or so wandering around the old Dutch Church in the heat of the day and read some of the old tombstones from 200 year ago.
Heading in the direction away from Colombo and about 12 KM down the road from Mirissa is the bustling town of Matara. This is the final stop on the Train from Colombo and a major bus destination hub for the whole of the Southern Provence . It is from here that you can get back to Colombo or take a bus up to Ella and the Hill Country.
Matara also has its own Fort tucked away in a quiet corner of the town close to the main Bus Station. It is not as grand as the one in Galle , but it is still nice to spend a few hours walking around inside it .
Just after the Cricket Grounds is the extremely old Dutch Star Fort . This place dates back to 1600 and it is still possible to walk around inside it and with only a little bit of imagination its possible to transport yourself back in time and put yourselves in the shoes of one of the young soldiers stationed here from Holland.
Another 8 or so KM up the road is Dondra and this place is geographically the most Southern tip of Sri Lanka and the Indian Sub Continent . There is functioning lighthouse there and definitely its worth a trip to just to say you were there. Ask for details and directions at your guest house or hire a minivan or Tuk Tuk to take you there .
