Beautiful Artist's Cottage-Quiet Neighborhood, Center of Town

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Walk to everything in Kinsale! No need to drive. Set in a quiet residential neighborhood, but right in the center of the beautiful village of Kinsale. We're close enough to walk anywhere in about 2 to 5 minutes, but far enough away from all the action to ensure the peace you need when you need it.

We've completely redone the interior design with a modern, fresh feel, while preserving the original beauty and tradition of the exterior of this 300-year-old former fisherman's cottage. We've just returned from another update, adding new curtains, new sofa, some new fixtures and some lovely finishings.

Here's a review that puts it quite nicely:

'It couldn't have been more perfect for us. This cottage was indeed immaculate, charming, tastefully furnished, quiet, and cozy. It really felt like home and everything was conveniently within walking distance. What we also loved was the abundance of natural light that came through the cottage during the day making it such an inspiring place to be in. We would definitely come back to stay. Thank you for making our Kinsale holiday such a great experience!'

And another said: '...the most comfortable bed I slept on in Ireland...'

New Zealand

Set on a hill above Desmond Castle in the center of town, walking distance to all of the wonderful shops, pubs and restaurants of Kinsale, considered the 'Gourmet Capital' of Ireland.

Nearby attractions include: the Old Head of Kinsale (a beautiful site and also the location of one of the top golf courses in the world), several beautiful beaches, a marina, and some of the most amazing natural scenery in Ireland.

We've recently added all new wood floors, new beds, all new modern designer furniture and fully stocked the kitchen with new utensils, glasses, plates, etc., new washer and dryer, a gas bbq and patio furniture in the expansive back yard.

It's a beautiful place to stay and we welcome you to come and experience all that this wonderful location has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Paul,

We arrived back in Boston last night and I wanted to take a minute to let you know we had an excellent time at your home in Kinsale, it was hard to leave!

Sandra and Curt were helpful, with some restaurant suggestions, Crackpots was our favorite, and when we had a punctured tire on St Patrick's Day, recommended the tyre shop up the hill which promptly fixed it.

Overall it was one of the nicest vacations we have had, 35 minutes to downtown Cork, we were able to visit our son at UCC several times during the week. Location, location, location, your palce can't be beat! On street parking was never a problem, and we were able to walk and explore all around Kinsale as much as we wanted to.

If we get back to Kinsale, we'll be sure to ask if your place is available again!

the cottage was in a good location but the cottage itself was poor = could do with a lick of

paint. Tv was not working got it fixed the tumble dryer was not working. We thought it was

expensive at 550 euro we thought it should have been 350 to 400. Furniture in cottage was

very dated - kitchen very small - there was 3 adults and we thought it was two small - the shower was hard to get right temp. too hot or too cold

Uncomfortable, cold & damp

  • 1 of 5

We were really looking forward to our stay in Kinsale however, we found the entire trip to be nothing short of a nightmare. The cottage was cold and damp. Treacherous stairs leading to the upper level, no clothes storage other than a fousty smelling set of drawers resulting in smelly clothes. Nowhere to put rubbish bags resulting in us leaving them in the garden for the local wildlife. We were informed we could park safely in the disabled bay as there is absolutely no parking spaces to be found but ended up with a parking ticket of 80 Euro (thanks for that). We all ended up huddled in the small living space with severe flu symptoms trying to keep warm by a very poor electric heater whilst watching the so called TV (reception poor). Good impression of a wifi service by having a box for appearance sake but would have been useful to actually have internet connection. The town was pretty but once explored for a day, that's it, nothing else to see. Hired a car through Easirent who charged us 300 euro instead of the advertised price of 90 and had no choice other than stump up the money due to being in the middle of an industrial estate in Dublin. On returning the car on our departure day we arrived at the porta cabin only to be told we had to drop the car off at a different location so by the time we found the drop off point we had eaten into the full tank of petrol and then charged a further 100 euro! NEVER again, worst Holiday ever. All 3 of us were ill and smelly with the damp and cramped conditions. Extremely upset and very skint!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback, but I have to say I'm a bit shocked. Not only in the review of the cottage, but of the town of Kinsale, car hires, and Ireland in general it seems (a whole tank of petrol to find the rental drop off?) I won't touch on those, but re: the cottage, a few responses... There are a total of 4 electric Oil radiators in the cottage, larger ones in the living room and downstairs bedroom and smaller units in each of the upstairs bedrooms, which is more than enough for the size of the cottage. There is no dampness in the cottage as is apparent if you inspect closely and see absolutely no signs of it. Yes the space is small as we explain to all guests and as we did to you in our emails before you booked. And yes, the stairs leading up to the upper bedrooms are very steep as we also detailed in the email prior to your booking. The chest of drawers is a 4-drawer chest with 3 smaller drawers at the top. We keep it clean and have never had a complaint and in fact were just there ourselves for a month (3 of us) and stored all of our clothes in it. There is also an area on the upper level to hang clothing, located in the smaller bedroom. Regarding the rubbish, there is a large rubbish bin by the side of the shed in the garden. You do need to walk out into the garden to see it so we will be sure to let guests know that in the future. The internet was working prior to your arrival which I know, because as I said we were there for a month and departed one week before you arrived. It appears sometime after our departure, some of the connections were changed, altered I've been told which we are now having the service provider come in and inspect and repair. Most importantly, if you had contacted us or our managers there in Kinsale, we could have been happy to help you with all of these issues immediately, but sadly you did not. If you'd like to contact us to discuss, please do. We'd be happy to listen to your concerns and always ask our guests to provide feedback on areas that we can improve upon. We hope your future travels are more rewarding and we do still wish you all the best.

Cozy house & convenient walking location

  • 5 of 5

This was a great spot for us! We were traveling with two teenagers and they were comfortable upstairs in their own spots. We had plenty of hot water for showers to get ready in the morning.

The kitchen had everything we could need. We pulled the drop leaf table out and had dinner in one night. We played cards in the den. We played frisbee in the back yard. We walked to town and had Irish coffee in the morning. At night we listened to Irish music in the pubs. One day we went to Blarney, kissed the stone, loved the gardens.

We also went to Baltimore and rode the ferry to Sherkin Island. Spectacular spot, great hikes, saw a sea lion from the ferry and enjoyed a pint in the pub before returning on the ferry. Went to a lovely beach at Old Head.

Great use of space! I recommend this spot for families and couples.

Loved it!

Lovely place in Kinsale

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a few days in July with our little girl and it was very lovely and comfortable, with a quiet garden! It was very clean and cosy! Martina, Paul and Curt were very cool for the organisation, thanks again!!! Perfect if you want to visit Kinsale and all around! We had a car, no problems to park it just near the house. We had a very great time. See you soon Kinsale!

Cosy cottage equipped with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week to discover the Kinsale area by foot. The cottage has its own private garden, it is very cosy and quite, though only 5 minutes walk from the city centre and SuperValue is just around the corner. We had a wonderful week and nothing to complain about...Love to come back!

Perfect getaway in Kinsale with garden

  • 5 of 5

We recently decided to go to Kinsale at the last minute for the bank holiday weekend, and landed on our feet. This little cottage was perfect. Located in a quite residential part of Kinsale but less than 2 minutes walk to the centre of town meant we had the best of both worlds. Granted the cottage is not particularly large, but it's really quaint and cosy. The garden is a very good size though, and private, so in the summer its a great place to sit out and have a morning coffee (the new Dolce gusto coffee machine helps) or a drink in the evening with the fruits of a trip to the English Market in Cork city.

We were a couple and the place suited us perfectly. Centrality, and space outside were our main criteria - so that we could enjoy Kinsale to it's fullest, and the cottage was perfect for that. Also, one of the owners paints so there are lovely painting all over the cottage, and some really cool furniture, which give it a really nice feel. I'd rather stay somewhere like this, than a generic hotel room or apartment block any day.

Yes my 6"3 partner had to watch his head in the bedrooms upstairs, but the downstairs bedroom was plenty big - it didn't bother him at all. The stairs are rather vertical (like Amsterdam) but for us that just added to the charm. The kitchen is small but ample, and well stocked. The dining table probably wouldn't fit 4, but then there is also a table in the garden and a myriad of nice restaurants in Kinsale so that really didn't matter to us; we were in Kinsale to have a weekend off from cooking, and eat as much fish and seafood as we could!

The owners Martina and Paul were really nice and helpful when we were organising it, and their cousin Curt was there to meet us and show us around. He was really relaxed and welcoming so we felt at home straight away.

We'd a great time, and would definitely return, or recommend it to other couples planning a few days in Kinsale. If I'd children, or there had been 6 of us we probably would have gone for something larger, but I doubt it would have been as charming.
